Worlds of fun/Sfstl photo trip report.

Recommended Posts

So this year we decided to take a last min trip to worlds of fun and six flags St. Louis.

I have been to both parks in the past, but it's been a few years, so when I had the opportunity to revisit I jumped on it. The only new attractions since I was at either of these parks was the windseeker at wof, and boomerang/ tsunami soaker at six flags.

I am not very good at writing out a full blown trip report, so let's just get on to the pictures.

First up is worlds of fun. I really coulden't get a good shot of the sign as I was driving.

The new windseeker ride dominates the skyline of the park.

Welcome

The closest coaster to the main gate is the spinning dragon coaster.

But first things first.

1839247033_Midamerica2014551.thumb.JPG.edbeac37ed4da112c196529cf0a32151.JPG

And the line was not bad either.

The last time I was at this park, this was my favorate coaster there.....It still is.

Hard coaster to phtograph, but a blast to ride.

Worlds of fun has a decent collection of flat rides.

426004244_Midamerica2014568.thumb.JPG.9678b0e754aca3f41648b0342635f40b.JPG

And a really uniqe ride called cyclone sam's.

The waiting area is inside.

957566893_Midamerica2014570.thumb.JPG.3ef2933b5ff4812af95997120dc0747f.JPG

The ride has some kind of story about a weather making machine...I think. We were not in line long enough to really see the whole video.

2147013086_Midamerica2014573.thumb.JPG.ae7b5b82625a9a925abb3627ab1dbc5c.JPG

This is the ride. When it starts, it gets dark and there is lightning plus other effects.

Timber wolf is the parks other wooden coaster. The last time I was on this thing we came off with a headache. This time was a little better.

764220938_Midamerica2014578.thumb.JPG.ef597b9f7be12b18a6c17380445aaab1.JPG

This ride has a chicken exit in the station. I remember years ago that the beast used to have one of these.

320387218_Midamerica2014576.thumb.JPG.854576c4fd2e380d06e98eccf6db1c10.JPG

Yet another coaster that was camera shy.

1337894917_Midamerica2014580.thumb.JPG.74d86a2fea2c00f666fb76692fdf8c89.JPG

Not the smoothest coaster in the world, but a lot better than it was in the past.

1193650424_Midamerica2014589.thumb.JPG.1da52c096ff94927df850ca2759e7e14.JPG

Being a new ride, there was not much of a line.

902659417_Midamerica2014592.thumb.JPG.c0ffb4114e103412fd849795e72705d0.JPG

This coaster was kinda a disapointment. The airtime hills at the end of the ride have so much potential, but they slow the train down to the point that it barley makes it over each of them.

511370018_Midamerica2014606.thumb.JPG.369027fb9c4d67e5cf2b452228dc934d.JPG

But it has an impressive looking layout.

Not quite sure why they were watering the track. Anybody know?

460379980_Midamerica2014611.thumb.JPG.dcb7eae85e5edaa0c3edd73067af8198.JPG

This ride had the longest lines of the day though.

This ride was fun. One of the better spinner coasters I have been on.

1550618631_Midamerica2014617.thumb.JPG.96b67e5dfe4911ae116f913aa38f2e25.JPG

This seems to be a new trend at theme parks.

This was also new this year. After having 2 bad meals at the cedarpoint location, we skipped this place.

Nice trip report! This is a park I definitely want to hit up next year. To answer your question about the "track watering," I'm sure it's to keep the brakes cool. Slowing down those heavy trains causes a lot of heat from the friction.

The only other coaster I recall seeing this on was the launch track of top thrill dragster. I wonder what would be different about the brakes on this ride to where they need them?

Nice report! Worlds of Fun looks like a nice park. That close-up of Timber Wolf's track is pretty shocking to see, though.

Millennium Force's wheels are "watered" in the station during the summer.

That's what I was thinking. I've heard people complain about the roughness of that ride, but I just thought they were being over-dramatic (like people who complain about B&M being to rough). Now I realize why they complain. That can not be comfortable.

Nice pictures. I live about 2 1/2 hours from WoF and try to get down there 2-3 times a year. Prowler is the crown jewel of the park, no doubt. I like Mamba a lot, but you're right, they need to tone down the mid-course brake. That thing used to go a lot faster in the 2nd half. WoF reminds me a lot of Dorney. Decent park that has a good array of rides, but people seem to overlook both places.

The Chicken Exit sign for Timber Wolf is actually a hand-me-down from the Orient Express.

In the summer the park waters the wheels on Mamba to cool them off before heading into the station - this prevents the wheels from getting flat spots while sitting still. The wheels literally melt in the summer on Mamba and that's why they brake the coaster so hard at the MCBR.

The fountain at Spinning Dragons is the left over dolphin pool that was at the Aquatic Arena in the Orient. After the dolphin show left, it was used as a dive pool for the Dive show.

Chickie and Pete's has been at the park now for 3 seasons.

The weird dinosaur photo you posted is the "dry river bed" section

Next up......Six flags St Louis.

We have been to this park a few times, and in no way is it my favorite six flags park. The

only reason we stopped by was because it was so close to our destination. I really do enjoy evil kenivel, screeching eagle, and the scooby doo dark ride. I guess Mr freeze is good as well. I cant quite put my finger on it, but this park is missing something.

I was also wanting to get the boomerang credit that was added since our last visit.

Onto the pictures.

This ride was a blast. Why are there not more of these?

This ride is like a enterprise and a star ship.

Hard to believe this used to be a stand up coaster at one time

I like the starflyers much better than the windsleeper rides.

Any park that has a tunnel, is a winner in my book.

Not sure what this was all about, but it looked kinda ghetto

On our way out to the car, they had these towers set up to watch over the cars. More pictures of this park coming soon.

A couple of things:

The "ghetto" picture on the train ride you posted is an area where they used to, and still do, a "hi-jacking" of the train during Fright Fest....along with some guns and very small fire explosion. It does look odd when it's there during normal park operations.

The picture next to Batman where you said it looked weird but the area's theme looks nice was where the Batman stunt show used to be. SFStL used to be an amazing park. When Batman opened, they had a Batman stunt show in that area on those stairs and balcony...was actually rather good! They also had a laser show with Batman swooping in on that area and the plaza at night. Then, SF got cheap and cut all that.

I find it funny you said the park was missing something........what you're referencing is a steel, sit-down, GOOD coaster. Yea, join the club. As a STL 28 year native SFStL is/was always 15 minutes from home. Ever since they got lazy in the early 00's, I don't go anymore. $20 for parking?!?! That's insane. And they don't do anything to the park that people have longed and begged for. However, I might visit because of the new dark ride for 2015. Otherwise, it's a pretty forgettable place.

Great pictures, thanks for sharing.

This park has really never been on my radar since they seem to be lacking in the steel coaster department. You can always count on a Batman clone to be awesome but since there are so many of them it would be nice if they had something unique to really draw people to the park. Of course this is coming from an enthusiast perspective but I'd love for them to eventually get a B&M hyper or something to give me an excuse to make a trip out there. Right now the only way I see this happening is if we decide to do a SFSTL, SDC and Worlds of Fun trip (with Silver Dollar City and visiting the city of St. Louis being the real reasons for the trip).

You should check out STL. The city and everything is very awesome. I believe there is a St Louis Cardinal/6 Flags package that would be very much worth it and help encompass all of the STL areas. SFStL is located about 30-35 mins west of downtown in the outskirts of the St Louis county.......aside from SFStL, the Eureka area where it's located is rather event-less and nothing to do. If coming from Branson, where SDC is, SFStL would be before you hit the city.

From the looks of it, I couldn't had agreed with you more about WoF and Dorney. They both have pretty much the same line up of coasters, as well as flats. The only thing really different is the lack of a descent wooden coaster at Dorney, and the lack of a Possessed "style" ride at WoF.

Yes, I agree....A decent steel coaster like a hyper or better would really round out the coaster lineup at this park.
