Photo TR: Euclid Beach Park Grand Carousel

Recommended Posts

The Euclid Beach Carousel has reopened at the Western Reserve Historical Society on University Circle in Cleveland, Ohio. This grand 1910 Carousel is a historic landmark from the late Euclid Beach Park, which last operated nearly 45 years ago.

It has been restored and opened up at the museum, and it was beautiful!

We stopped by today to ride it along with capture some photos... Amazing restoration. It was really cool to see a few older couples who clearly had history with the attraction, holding hands while riding together side-by-side. Talked with some other knowledgeable people who explained some additional history along with information on the refurbishment. It was almost like stepping back in time a bit, and the vibe was really cool.

They also had available some classic Euclid Beach custard (malt... mmmm), along with some other park tidbits such as bumper cars, rocket ships and signage.

Enjoy!

AAh Euclid Beach, even though I was very little back then I have many memories of the place. It was the place that cemented my love for coasters. Terrified as I was at the time of them. (many stories to tell) It is so wonderful to see that park still lives on in so many ways. Such as Cedar Downs . Also the Thriller coaster car and Rocket ship that comes down here in the Tampa Bay area for rides at a few festivals in the winter. What a great restoration of a classic from times way gone. Beautiful. Next time I am up in Cleveland , I will check this out for sure.

Another fun little tidbit... The music the band organ plays has some very familiar tunes in it... If you are a fan of RCT! (1 and 2). I thought that was pretty awesome!

I should wrap up my video today and get it uploaded to share. Nothing fancy, but will show the ride/music off a bit.

Beautiful! Two questions:

How much are rides?

Do they sell the frozen custard year round, or was it just for the grand opening?

Thanks!

It was $10 to enter the museum and that included (2) rides. Each additional ride was $3 if you chose to.

As far as the custard, that was a special setup they had just for the opening. However, the company is located in Fairview Park, Ohio... And you can get it anytime! https://www.facebook.com/webersicecream

I'm so happy that this carousel has finally opened... what a beautiful restoration. I've followed this project for years and I can't wait to go check it out in person when I head home to Cleveland for winter break. Such a great piece of local history, and it's nice to see it on display now.

^ Could you have been thinking of Cedar Downs, which is the relocated American Racing Derby from Euclid Beach ?

Ahh that must be it! Thank you for the information good sir! I live right by Euclid. Theres apartments there now The entrance towers were still standing a few years ago, but a drunk driver hit the one (read it in the paper), and they were planning on/did tear them down as result.

The entranceway is still standing but it's definitely sad living so close and knowing what used to be there. I live just west of E. 156th, maybe 200 feet away from the old west entrance. sigh....

I'm quite glad to see this beauty back up & running again near it's home though!

Does that Euclid Beach club still do the history thing at the park in late summer? I went a number of years ago and they had some neat artifacts on display, like an old Thriller car and Laughing Sal. And of course they had popcorn balls for sale. Such a shame the place couldn't have hung on. It really was one of the big players in the amusement industry back in its time.

^^ Love the rocketship car. Oddly enough, the Clearwater/ St Pete area here in Florida seems to be its winter home. Every once in a while the newspaper here feature a picture of it on Clearwater beach. Also, a car from the the Thriller coaster has been converted and will show up here from time to time. Now I just wish there was someplace local to buy some of the wonderful, yummy, gooey Humphries Kisses that were sold at EB.

Actually theres a small company claiming to be the original humphries people, they sell popcorn, toffee popcorn, and candy kisses! We carry them at the grocery store I work at!

Others have answered the question on the price to ride.

I haven't visited it yet myself but the local news outlets have run stories on the carousel reopening.

If you are ever in the Cleveland area you can go to any East Coast Custard location during the spring, summer, or fall and get frozen custard that is inspired by the custard that was sold at Euclid Beach Park. Frankley their vanilla custard is better than custard I've had while traveling in Europe.
