Rollercoaster Tycoon World (RCTW) Discussion Thread

So... This in-game image is one of the following:

1.) False advertising

2.) There really is no grid in the game

3.) There is a grid, but you can turn objects and rides any angle you wish

On another note, I hope we have the ability to make our own park mascots.

The official Facebook page has all photos posted in high res, which means a better look at all the goodies shown so far. Source. From my observation...

*Certain things in the game might look low-poly only because it's far away.

*That chairswing ride looks to be themed to vultures carrying peeps in circles high above the ground, facing them down at about 45 degrees, and the Screamin' Swing chairs are actually wagons.

*Remember that RCT3 animated scenery object that was a rocket that would turn 45 degrees before tilting back, then launching upwards only to stop and fall back down, then return to it's original position? I think it's a ride now (look to the far-right).

*That huge-a## ferris wheel that held 100+ peeps made a return.

*This pic feels a lot more like RCT3 to me than any of the other pictures.

I still feel like this game has good potential in it, and I'm actually a little excited to see more.

UGH! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!

It's fine and all if they want to have some super-themed lands or whatever, but so far I've not seen ONE THING in the game that looks like an *actual* amusement park ride. That is what I want to see. I want to see that in this game you can make a basic, off-the-shelf stock Scrambler, Drop Tower, Arrow Roller Coaster, B&M Invert, etc. If you can show me that, and that all the rides have the most basic, fundamental look and feel like they are supposed to in a REAL AMUSEMENT PARK, then I'll be on board. You can add all the theming and decoration you want after the fact. I want to be able to make a simple Schwarzkopf shuttle loop and have it LOOK and act like the Schwarzkopf shuttle loop in RCT 1 & 2. It doesn't need to be super detailed and perfectly tuned like I'm playing No Limits 2. But needs to look and feel like the real thing.

But this crap? No thank you. That's not the game I want.

^RCT3 had closing times too. many people didn't realize this.

They're just not expressed by everyone leaving the park, but simply by the hours jumping.

I don't think that people taking a long time to leave the park and then a long time to refill it back up ever morning is something I want in a game.

Whre can I find this video?

Here you go:

I want to see a list of all the roller coasters in the game. Another question I have is will there be a "online sandbox mode"?

^Huh! Honestly that looks pretty good to me!

^^I'm right with you there, Robb.

Risky - I'm getting the significant impression that that screenshot wasn' actual in-game footage, but rather a mashup of 3D models that also appear in the game.

I'm kind of on the fence about this now, it looks like what I wanted it to look like (a cleaned up RCT3), but I'm still a bit sceptical about the coasters, since they haven't really truly showed them off yet and it's kind of supposed to be the main part of the game.

As for the overly themed rides, for the moment I'm okay with them, I mean, RCT3 did the same thing by both very themed versions and generic looking versions of most of the rides, and it looks like RCTW is going to be doing the same thing atm.

I was too busy looking over the smaller details to even recognize that there wasn't any "real" rides in the game... At the least they better have basic carnival rides. Scrambler, Zipper, Chairswing, Roundup, Gravitron, etc. Things like that were what made the previous RCT expansion packs so exciting.

^ I hear you, and I know you're talking about this screen shot:

That was from that teaser video where you saw this screen for like a split *second* - It doesn't look like any of the other screen shots we've seen that came after.

I'm beginning to wonder if that image is even real or from the game at all. I mean, if they had that "world" all created and built in the game, why haven't we seen another screen shot from it?

Those four new screen shots released just don't look ANYTHING like a game I'd be interested in playing and they don't look ANYTHING like what I remember RCT to look like.

^Oh, I don't think that that shot is from the game, I think it was just a teaster shot made with objects from the game, the giant ferris wheel also shows up in one of the four screen shots, too, though.

I'm fairly certain that as people who played the previous games and are concious enough to improve on the annoying coaster construction system, they're not gonna make the mistake of NOT having a whole bunch of generic themed rides, forcing us to create themed areas, that would be BEYOND a simcity level fuckup.

Also, it just occured to me that the rocket vertical drop ride from the sci-fi screenshot is quite possibly NOT a ride, but a scenery object. That makes me hate it much less.

^ Just found it. Ok, this makes me feel a *little* bit better. I hadn't seen this screen shot yet. But still, ugh. double decker tea cups? Here's an idea... just make a normal TEA CUPS RIDE!!! Do that first, and THEN make crazy stuff.

I get that it's cool to mess with reality, but I want to make a park that will look like a real park and THEN add theming and stuff on top of it...

^Well, nobody's saying they HAVEN'T made the normal tea cups yet. They just haven't shown them. Just like they've barely show the rollercoasters.

It's clear that the rides you can clearly see in the screenshots aren't the only things they've made. Note the Flying Pagoda(?) ride hiding behind the park's main gate.

If I had to guess, I'd say they made a double decker teacups ride in lieu of a double decker carousel, seeing as that would probbaly be too many polygons or whatever (The reason they didn't have on in RCT3).

Or maybe they made both. Here's hoping.

But I really wouldn't jump to the conclusion that they're showing us the best they've got. If anything... They still haven't shown us the coasters, They've mostly shown the heavily themed stuff, so if that means they're saving the generic looking rides and the coasters for later... These are definitely just teasers.

...A poor selection of teasers, mind you, but still.

EDIT:

outbank.jpg.866905211e930fb8e612252a0e4a71fb.jpg

I just noticed that the coaster's turn is banked OUTWARDS.

On one hand, I'm happy they have a construction system that makes this possible,

on the other had, it bugs me that the ride built here would even have something like that without being super intense.

Oh well, can't expect TOO much out of a game aimed at the general public.

Maybe I'm still being too optimistic here, but what if there's a "beginner" construction system that follows the grid and also an "advanced" system that doesn't?

I definitely think you're being too optimistic here. That would take up far too much work, especially if the stats for all coasters end up being calculated the same way.

I also think we would of head something about it by now.

I was referring more toward the path structure and placement of shops and flat rides. I feel like that would explain the differences between the video teaser and the released screenshots.

I just saw this posted on RCT World's Facebook page, thought you guys might be interested in this:

So we've seen some screenshots. The same question keeps popping up from the community.

"Will there be queue lines?"

Ofcourse! Pipeworks Software is working on these assets as we speak. Stay tuned as the development progresses.

This is exciting news, I want to see more screenshots!

Why do all these new amusement park building games keep wanting to force silly themes on us for everything? When they do this, that is when the games start to look cartoony and unrealistic. Everyone loved the original RCT1 and RCT2, because the rides looked like things you see in real life. The shops were a little iffy but even then you could hide them in custom buildings if needed.

It started to go downhill on the add-ons for RCT2. I don't want coaster trains shaped like seals or bullet trains, a giant spider on the side of a ferris wheel, or a scrambler shaped like dinasour eggs. Just make the rides look NORMAL, please!

I'm still holding out hope but if they are going to insist on themes they better add a "2014 real life" theme or something...

I've mentioned before, I think the reason the trailer footage looks different is that its not in game footage. They simply took the graphic objects they made for the game and created a teaser scene with them.

Pipeworks has said that the first part of the teaser trailer is live footage (Goliath at SFMM) and the last part of the trailer is in game assets that have been rendered.
