Now our cruise out of Stockholm..that was pretty.

That was also the best nights sleep I had on the entire trip! It was much needed! Even that insane tilt the ship did couldn't stop me from having that fantastic sleep!

Liseberg update time! It's finally here...Liseberg was so awesome I couldn't help but post all 88 photos I picked out for the PTR right now!

Along with Grona Lund, Liseberg was my most anticipated park of the trip...and it did not disappoint! In fact it may be my favorite park in the world. It has amazing coasters, an amazing setting, is beautiful, with great food and lots to do (tons of flats, dark rides, and GAMES! I didn't get any good games pics but they had so many unique ones and it was a lot of fun walking around checking them out). Seriously they have everything you could want in park. And uhm...did I mention Balder?!? Holy crap!

01.thumb.JPG.d9345562a918a53eb3d2d111976bd3ee.JPG

Welcome to Liseberg! Love entering the park area from right within the city of Gothenburg.

02.thumb.JPG.833069bf50fa2c9b45c309af5ff2e0e5.JPG

The "famous" entrance many of us remember.

03.thumb.JPG.8d164bbb563b8e678a40edae543a502b.JPG

First thing you see inside the park? Naked lesbians. I love Sweden

04.thumb.JPG.cdebf92f28ef87b2892bac3abe8ad0ab.JPG

Oh yeah, the new kid on the block is here too...but we'll come back to that later.

05.thumb.JPG.da8c885de5fb6756fbb12a571ffc65c2.JPG

First up, a morning date with Balder!

06.thumb.JPG.7af2aaa5e910a1cb15f25427a9ed3f87.JPG

Like past visits, we were allowed to soil the coaster...with sharpies and nails. Yes, I suck at nailing.

07.thumb.JPG.04fe0c0c09ee157d5e9eb6502f5a6ff8.JPG

But how about some morning ERT?

08.thumb.JPG.572299e230610662d84cb556a235563a.JPG

Always starting with a front row ride

09.thumb.JPG.85a784086b01505f7c0c3bfc4e9a42d0.JPG

The views from the ride are breathtaking.

10.thumb.JPG.0490e98da84ee79ef13a1b742ac82e9f.JPG

Love the setting of this park!

11.thumb.JPG.ac0f8d8e13b6890efc6cb00b0f3e3533.JPG

Okay, enough scenery, it's time to ride!

12.thumb.JPG.7ad9faaa5b2cf5b3b294ebfe254a6ed1.JPG

70 degrees coming right up! This was super steep for this ride's time (and still is!)

13.thumb.JPG.4f099b64b80926ce2e6c6fed29ab99e9.JPG

Epic.

14.thumb.JPG.83e68c130083e5ead0c990e50a027dc5.JPG

This is where ejector airtime begins, and seemingly never ends.

15.thumb.JPG.6020edfbb040cd3c8b4baef60e5ad1a2.JPG

In videos the turns on Balder look weak. Honestly they aren't, they are pretty snappy!

16.thumb.JPG.c3407b64f8e0e45f2d054bfb9e6b6988.JPG

Diving down into another series of epic airtime hills.

17.thumb.JPG.693fd87226886c1d4c4f29829fbaf154.JPG

Seriously, the airtime on this ride is sooo good. I think it's the best airtime on earth.

18.thumb.JPG.e284c24aeae620ae00630500b135ab19.JPG

Airtime and headchoppers!

19.thumb.JPG.ebb6c8ad68c76bd9b43f72d06607fbb4.JPG

And it's still going!

20.thumb.JPG.a9997264315852fdef986f42f2209575.JPG

The relentless airtime keeps going until the very end, and boy it's the perfect long ride!

21.thumb.JPG.a9092ccdb1f17c09e783b8c31b618dd0.JPG

How about a back seat ride?

22.thumb.JPG.98059703fde3f462331efda895be8d14.JPG

Nice view of Kanonen from back here.

23.thumb.JPG.69fce2682394c75c91c9e48d13e89d23.JPG

Seriously, so freakin' good. Words or videos don't do it justice. GO RIDE BALDER!!!

24.thumb.JPG.53051a956d282e620c845146af6b674d.JPG

Our host, Pontus, delivers instructions for our next ambition.

25.thumb.JPG.0a188510a4d4a8eba3dece2c9d9f0ba3.JPG

Time to ride the brand new Helix!

26.thumb.JPG.98cc881ea6ca580fdacb0a3fb01fa9bc.JPG

...or not. Unfortunately Helix had a problem as we tried to dispatch the first train that had never happened before. Things happen, and we rescheduled the ERT for later!

27.thumb.JPG.189ecf7a83ba11996f3704024204978f.JPG

With the park opening, time to hit the other coasters! With the park being a busy one, we got the low capacity kiddies done first.

28.thumb.JPG.8229162e65a55822c615949e469e9961.JPG

If you see this man near a kiddie coaster, hide your children!

29.thumb.JPG.5f4ecb56333847aab39501b4cc57b16f.JPG

Another one for the count.

30.thumb.JPG.421bf8d61ee622a90f3d1cc0a547a202.JPG

Finally riding Lisebergbanan after all these years!

31.thumb.JPG.4c191b4a968c94033e1e399588dc2348.JPG

Even with a full queue it was only like a 20 min wait! Love it!!

32.thumb.JPG.58d1ae53ae846f9f85fd591f7e895fe6.JPG

Such a great ride, and I'll dive into more details later when we ride again.

33.thumb.JPG.3ec73821c043ca333b3cab79a38c22fd.JPG

Another cool thing...they decided to add another train right in front of us! No shutting the ride down, just pausing it for 2 minutes to add a new train and continued right on with operations! I think this made for 5 trains on the track?!?

34.thumb.JPG.cbe70170b68811f07c93d5009e7784db.JPG

Finally Helix opened for the day, and the park was nice enough to let us ride through the resort exclusive express lane. It already had a full queue!

35.thumb.JPG.5089da6405ad72901eccfb3b37ebfc5e.JPG

Helix was a solid new ride. Definitely like top 10 quality. I'll talk about more details later as well as I got to photograph it more!

36.thumb.JPG.a90d81cf20075715e5824f7ee55a7d75.JPG

Last but not least was Kanonen!

37.thumb.JPG.93a48752df796db7a762a37b3a6c1c95.JPG

I love me some twisty hills, so I was looking forward to this.

38.thumb.JPG.f0f55597ea1fdf6752d5e6a73fd78884.JPG

Kanonen has many awkward but awesome moments, like the heartline roll.

39.thumb.JPG.b0952a0831ecf591648fc72d870abd09.JPG

More twisty hills!!! I was in a super nerdy secret heaven.

40.thumb.JPG.8cbc5e3e58432a1fc65810471f3ff4fc.JPG

Such a photogenic ride, too. Love how it crawls around the loop which is quite the juxtaposition from an otherwise super intense and snappy ride.

41.thumb.JPG.069dec62f6ecb2b02b25e17519b78d68.JPG

The queue also provides some nice views of Balder, so I couldn't resist.

42.thumb.JPG.2ce55b6bf6bdcd6670bc5f37238be4fa.JPG

Don't let those turns fool you.

43.thumb.JPG.3c3072b730a3ded550961c268f1592d5.JPG

Airtime galore.

44.thumb.JPG.32f1ee06e38e9a12b4031b96f0f5bca5.JPG

Oh yeah, we finally rode Kanonen (it was only like a 15 minute wait). Great ride!

45.thumb.JPG.5e79dad2895d7e4cd236d8c765258e4c.JPG

We then walked around the park a bunch to check it out and take photos. Hotel Gasten is the park's year-round haunt, but we had plans for this later.

46.thumb.JPG.9b6fe57b43711f0e80d080f40d60649e.JPG

How can you beat views like this in an amusement park?

47.thumb.JPG.ce248331daf02b6ffa285dd6b4ec3894.JPG

Some Helix action for you.

48.thumb.JPG.cc592b83554133ad913f34518f8cd6e0.JPG

2 rides at once!

49.thumb.JPG.ac29ae01b89d7025db40942b8d36f691.JPG

We decided to ride Liserbergbanan again and get some photos.

50.thumb.JPG.8fa3d5e3004816e18951ee4dbad5d39c.JPG

Sweet view of the city from up here.

51.thumb.JPG.da27fe817e8be723dee0251507f37201.JPG

Lisebergbanan is unique in that it's a super long ride that is never more than this far off the ground!

52.thumb.JPG.28a6f400e15be8f35ffcd0272389e214.JPG

Airtime and twistyness!

53.thumb.JPG.544c5f692178b42cebbc1bf87fbbad31.JPG

What a view. Wow.

54.thumb.JPG.250858f54dc015c56806a7ebc6736a41.JPG

The ride just picks up more and more speed as it dives around everywhere.

55.thumb.JPG.a78eb5eb17ec2040f49abecc01caa246.JPG

Triple helix through the roof above!

56.thumb.JPG.a108448f9bce151da90745f540818dfc.JPG

It is just so unique with random elements and fast pacing.

57.thumb.JPG.7b6e74fded500eadf53b0c1d21b22f63.JPG

A final airtime to helix finale.

58.thumb.JPG.5a07f89820fce9cb63a1760c5718d7af.JPG

And done.

59.thumb.JPG.9c5360017786007aea58a69295b93be0.JPG

How about another round on Helix?

60.thumb.JPG.4dfc76f4311e74b56b95d9296fe9f79a.JPG

I will say, the airtime hills on the ride were great. They were intense and made me think I was on a kickass Intamin ride.

61.thumb.JPG.7af3e18672515038dfd91dc1f71d2986.JPG

But all of the inversions on the ride were really "floaty" and they all kind of felt the same.

62.thumb.JPG.ec4d73649ef672a20aa94674075f9836.JPG

Another issue I had is the launches are really weak. You feel like you barely accelerate.

63.thumb.JPG.2bd8c1330e1c6753ffec1096a5f3c2b1.JPG

Weird element for sure, but lacking in intensity.

64.thumb.JPG.cc354b7fd450d8716450f809891acbf9.JPG

Here you can see how all of the rides on the mountain weave in and out of each other!

65.thumb.JPG.ffa1e3dfa098699ac0e0574e6e417d51.JPG

We see you too, Balder.

66.thumb.JPG.0308ba367bb9fa010d7a9c7f2d0b3820.JPG

But yeah, it's like a tale of two rides. Some intense, some weak. At least the setting is unbelievable!

67.thumb.JPG.6c0b392396f65ce3ff2d4f9eeb5ccd36.JPG

The drop out of the station is a nice surprise in the back seat.

68.thumb.JPG.1064d678de7019fc594ab7f94049b1f6.JPG

Oh yeah, we rode the drop tower too.

69.thumb.JPG.cf9ab0d45e596ba90653e99690f74a34.JPG

How about more Balder riding?

70.thumb.JPG.00506d94b6f3ad757e9d629be5789a82.JPG

And the after photo. Balder just makes you so happy and wonder how the hell was that so good?

71.thumb.JPG.28ecfe14bb02fb687c4ec54ec6a3669f.JPG

Such a beautiful site.

72.thumb.JPG.fa3a6b9e7bb31befd1ccb9b9d1cbad84.JPG

The park invited us back inside Balder for a reception before night time ERT.

73.thumb.JPG.9173dea4b9c8e77845e4990d64686150.JPG

This looks like it could get dangerous.

74.thumb.JPG.aa1bf1d4ae55c656c65b8bcb9497500c.JPG

Soupy and his champagne! We had a toast inside Balder =)

75.thumb.JPG.c1622dd73443488487652bf19f037643.JPG

There was also delicious beer present. A Great wait to get ready for ERT!

76.thumb.JPG.6c08cf76e0f624d832581319e9b959a9.JPG

But first, we had a private experience at Hotel Gasten! It was a fantastic haunt with amazing scares and even better sets! The water room was unbelievable.

77.thumb.JPG.68fd60d36533dee80d0c06807146bd53.JPG

The other epic part? Robb was a scare actor inside for our groups! He scared the sh*t out of me.

78.thumb.JPG.1c7b911235b462133c6f999a99c5ef3a.JPG

We were hungry before the park closed. So we got food :)

79.thumb.JPG.b9ec0360c7818f0e1a7e05e29cb2af33.JPG

Nothing like scarving down chicken nuggets and riding Kanonen as fast as you can! Made up for no roll backs :)

80.thumb.JPG.748c593c4bc75cbe4d56feafba53bcb8.JPG

We got a solid 5-6 rides in on Balder as well. Seriously the best coaster ever if you love airtime.

81.thumb.JPG.0537ca97f1f6110870aa4f861a00be1f.JPG

And the night ended on Helix!

82.thumb.JPG.d70ce8b4db6122b27f7b85a2adaa2e1e.JPG

The lights on the train were pretty cool.

83.thumb.JPG.ed673e1ddfbd29616cfede30a3087a1f.JPG

Best part about ERT? No line!

84.thumb.JPG.61a9fdc8a1818c034b90749a048094f7.JPG

We got a few rides in in different seats.

85.thumb.JPG.3d2681de8b72ab6ae1a9fccf23677bc8.JPG

The station was fun with lightning and upbeat music. Definitely a great ERT ride!

86.thumb.JPG.f6825418a660c95ffa2fcf249cb3bb41.JPG

The last train of the evening returns. Sad day! But epic ERT with 5-6 rides on all 3 coasters each in an hour!

87.thumb.JPG.53c6403a7c5a892bbd153c31062592d9.JPG

We then had to find our way back out of this amazing but dizzying queue line...

88.thumb.JPG.a7f1d72ce313227f3ea331f335c6e350.JPG

...and say goodnight to Liseberg. Couldn't have imagined a better day, and thanks to Robb and Elissa for trying so hard all day to make our visit as memorable as possible. Cheers! Next up, we go to Skara Sommerland on our way to Stockholm.

Wow, thanks for sharing such amazing pics of Liseberg Jake! Liseberg was easily one of the best parks I've been to, and one of my favorites from the Scandi Trip. Balder was GREAT, made my top 5 wood coasters, I think it's number 1 or 2 actually. Had such a great day at Liseberg, beautiful park, great city, and you can't forget the amazing burgers and ice cream we had at lunch. I love reliving the memories through the photo TRs.

Awesome pictures from Liseberg! It really is one of my favorite parks! I haven't been this year to check out Helix, but I definately will next year.

The drive from Gothenburg to Oslo is very unspectacular, standard highway with generic countryside view for pretty much all the way.

Ok, really good to know. I was imagining towering cliffs, steep fjords and an endless series of spellbinding geological wonders that I'd be compelled to pull over and see. I think I'll just save the cost of a rental car, take the train and sleep the whole way.

if you want stunning scenery go the west coast or up north.

Just can't wait to visit Liseberg any longer. 2015 is the year!

Thank you so much for the awesome TR.

Any year is a good year to visit Liseberg.

This park is all about Balder! My god do I love that ride. Night ERT was just so awesome on that.

As for Helix well I am not allowed an opinion on that ride because its obviously wrong but the whole park is just amazing. The fact they just decided to put a FITH train on a coaster because it had a 20 min queue just shows how much the park care and other parks need to learn how to do that!

Great photos again Jake! Cant wait for the next update.

I find myself looking for cheap flights to Gothenburg all the time. That's how good Liseberg is. I guess I can wait until 2016...is there going to be a better combo of rides within a few hours of each other than Balder and Wildfire?!?

The whole idea that so many good parks, great coasters, and wonderful cultures,

are within relatively easy driving distances, and an overnight ferry ride, in Scandinavia.

And then there's Hansa, too!

Thanks so much Jake for your TR and the great pics. Just got back from Gothenburg last night and agree with everything, truly fantastic medium sized park that was so good we cancelled other plans to revisit for a second day.

Allow these coaster to warm up! My first ride on both Balder and Helix at opening was great but not amazing but then as it got dark, they were both incredible. Balder is just constant out of your seat airtime with a couple of hills being "sharper" than others, just relentless and the first drop in the back was very special indeed, was not expecting quite that level of intensity. It lacks the scale of El Toro but makes up for it in relentless airtime. Helix was also on top form once warmed up, the inversions are quite floaty but actually quite well designed and the hairpin turns and ejector airtime hills make up for it. I agree with you that the launches don't do much, they just keep the momentum going. The station and music along with free wifi and the queue line app/game concept was pretty innovative. I did notice some rattle but it was only on the first visit on Friday on one particular train.

Kanonen was surprisingly tiny but packed a punch after the mini top-hat that other larger versions lack. Liserbergbanananana coaster as I kept calling it was also much much better than your average coaster of it's time and the station was immaculate and very well preserved. Atmosfear was also pretty fantastic. It seems that if you paid per attraction, you'd feel as though you've got your money's worth as they were all quite interesting and longer than your average ride.

The food was very tasty, much more than typical park food and a good intro to popular Swedish dishes. The park was easy to get around and quite compact actually, a stunning setting but only 30 mins walk from the center. The lines kept moving, the staff were friendly, amazing selection of game stalls to win insanely sized versions of Swedish treats, and the park was very clean too. Really reminded me of a mini Europa Park in terms of quality and atmosphere.

Excellent TR on the Liseberg day Jake. I really enjoyed that day and really wish I could return soon. Balder was the standout ride of the trip for me. People had been saying how good those woodies are but I just could never understand it and then one ride on Balder was all that it took to convince me and for Balder to rocket to my number 1 woodie spot!

I loved Helix too, it's a top 10 ride for me but I found it slightly shaky. Nothing earth shattering and not in a classic woodie rough kind of way. It just seemed to have a shake to it. The first launch was just ok, the second was better, just a longer more sustained launch but as Jake said, quite weak. The airtime hill after the top hat was my favourite part of the ride and I love the soundtrack Helix has too.

Lisebergbanen was also a very big surprise. It's surprisingly speedy and it's run so efficiently too!

Agree on every single thing you said! I had heard everyone talk about how good Balder was and always doubted it based on the POVs...but after just one ride in the front seat, it was 1000% convinced. I still can't believe how good it was and have a hard time choosing between it and my most recent night rides on Boulder Dash exactly a month later.

The airtime hill after the top hat was by far the best part of Helix - noticeably more intense than the rest of the ride. The other part I liked was the airtime hill to 0g roll to twisty-hill helix thing. That sequence was good. The rest of the ride was pretty weak though!

I am insanely busy this week, so no idea if I will be able to get an update in, but i'll try. I barely took any photos at Skara Sommerland, so it would be a mini update before Grona Lund anyways!

Norwegian does have cheap flights from Orlando to Oslo (ca. 450$ roundtrip) and then you can get a cheap bus ride to Gothenburg.

Thread revival time! Needless to say this has been an insanely busy and tiring semester for me, but I want to keep this thread going and finish sharing my photos from the trip.

For tonight, here is a quick small update of Skara Sommerland! The park is located right dab in the middle of Sweden and a nice little stop between Gothenburg and Stockholm. However it will probably be tougher to hit once Kolmarden jumps on the map with Wildfire on the "southern route" across the country. Anyways, the park is home to one of the most unique coasters in the world in Tranan and is a nice place to spend a few hours. Apparently it gets very busy here which is great and hopefully this means the park will be able to grow!

On to the photos

01.thumb.JPG.4d9435b2ea34cd7d7e2e4bb063dcdcd9.JPG

Welcome to Skara Sommerland!

02.thumb.JPG.36356486aaffbd2ab829f6275df6d71b.JPG

Our morning started out with ERT on all 3 coasters (how nice)! The first stop for us was the appropriately named Spinner.

03.thumb.JPG.12af23ddd2077fc36ff0681ba7d20952.JPG

Not sure who makes this mouse, but it was my first time on this model. Reminded me of what the Chinese ones looked like and kinda scared me!

04.thumb.JPG.0484bab71bda73be950eba8808130d1b.JPG

Finally, it was time to head over to Tranan.

05.thumb.JPG.65cb8a5099b3af3274d46987620271ba.JPG

Oh my god what the hell is this thing???

06.thumb.JPG.4fe968a43be953d9d2c952c39c5aa009.JPG

It was seriously the most bizarre sensation ever. And it felt like you were going to fall out!

07.thumb.JPG.0e024e733c6c9611d27dc94609c077af.JPG

The park is centered around a nice lake.

08.thumb.JPG.0ac520567f43b1f16a633a949f7854bd.JPG

Beware of the bouncy bridge!

09.thumb.JPG.9ccd4b4bb3503613f0feca83ac251953.JPG

At the other end is the park's powered coaster. Enter if you dare!

10.thumb.JPG.e192dcafb727f5bec07a07fb72496eed.JPG

Had no idea you had to walk through an insanely dark tunnel to ride it! It was really cool. I had to use flash to even get a glimpse of it it was so dark!
