S&S Sansei Discussion Thread

^^ Good theory. However, the article did say coming to a "major" theme park. Would one really consider Frontier City to be a "major" theme park?

I don't know that I'd put much stock in the April opening/"Major" US Park part of the article being literal (what are their criteria for "major" park anyway?). Those are throwaway details that you'll see many (most?) newspapers/news sources use just because. Think of it as concept art, only with words.

The same article does go on to state

...By April or late May of next year, the 4D Free Spin will debut at an yet-to-be-named amusement park somewhere in the U.S.

So, it very well may open on April 2 smack dab in the middle of SFOT, but it also wouldn't surprise me if a Celebration City-sized park busts it out for Memorial Day weekend.

I hope it is Frontier City.. I emailed them a few days ago and asked if they are going to add any new rides since all the other major parks are adding rides next year. The reply I got back was just like this...."Thanks for being a loyal guest and all we can say right now is "Stay Tuned"...." They put out a survey on FB and twitter earlier in July asking their fans what they want to see by judging by the comments on FB with a huge response was a roller coaster. Maybe this S&S 4th Dimension will be landing in my local park their season always starts in mid April. I can see CNL Premier Parks spending 7 million on a coaster like this coaster. They have spent big on other attractions at other parks in their portfolio. They just did a huge expansion and update at Wet n Wild in Houston this past year. They spent over 2.5 million for the water play structure area at Frontier City in 2012. Their last new coaster they added was in 2008 that was a Jr. Inverted Vekoma I'm sure that cost more then the water play structure area. 6 years since they added a coaster. Maybe crossing my fingers this coaster lands in Frontier City. Then maybe I can make a trip to the park and personally meet Robb Alvey and his family when they visit. That way I can get his autograph! I know he would make a special trip to Frontier City to ride this coaster if indeed it lands at this park.

Just keep in mind that almost never will you find a park willing to disclose their multi-million dollar expansion plans via email, so often times it is simply easier to say "stay tuned," because they will eventually announce something for the park, whether it be for this year or for years off. That also being said, most parks employ a guest communications team to reply to those kind of emails and rarely are those guest communications employees privy to the expansion plans of a park, typically until they are announced or right before they are announced.

So the list of major parks that aren't already solidly rumored to get something else can't be all that long... lets throw a few others out there: Valleyfair? Darien Lake? SFA?

Three coasters in four years would be quite out of the norm for SFA... at least out of the norm for what they have done in the past 10 years.

I visit Frontier City and Premier and CNL have been putting allot money into the park. They partnered up with Chance Rides. They have been refurbishing rides updating buildings, even brought back a defunct rare ride A chance rotor the type the floor drops down. I'm not keen to that ride. (the spinning would make me hurl) They just recently bought a new train engine and it looks sharp, updated the Ferris wheel with a new lighting package, The wildcat station has all brand new graphics and added the large Retro sign to the lift hill of that coaster. The Casino right now is going through a refurbishment. They did remove hangman broke down quite a bit and replaced it with a Flying Scooters ride. The Eruption was completely removed. The flying scooter they received that ride because it was literately according to them tossed into their lap. It was due to go to a zoo expansion(Hence the tropical parrot theme to the ride) somewhere in the midwest but the zoo could not budget it so they pretty much according to them got a steal of a deal on the ride. I know they are going to add something major to the park next season with their recent survey. They have the space to do a Major Expansion. Before Six Flags had the bankruptcy and sold this park there were plans to use the other 50 acres of park. Maybe after completing that Survey and a lot of the question were about expansion. They might be planning on using that unused 50 acres. I think 10 acres of that space they use for a parts and junk yard. They have 106 acres and are only using 56 acres. I think they are ready to take this park to the next level and make this a regional park like SDC and SFOT. Yes I can see Frontier City going after this type of ride. The last time they added a coaster was in 2008. It is due time for a new coaster.

Also more things that make me think that frontier city will get it is that it's not crazy intense or scary of a ride. At least by the way it looks. That's kind of how premier and cnl have been thinking a while. I'm sure they have heard our cries about how there is not really any major ride there besides silver bullet. Also note that if it's towards the east side it will be visually attractive and draw crowds from the views off the highway. Also 7 million dollars is pretty low to average for a coaster. It's not like they will spend 20 million on a decent sized BM or intamin

In the article the track is not very long at all I think it was about the length of Silver Bullet. So about a minute long and its labeled as a family Thrill Ride. Which Premier and CNL market their parks too similiar to what SDC and Dollywood does Market their park to the family. I don't know how much they paid for Steel Lasso I'm sure it was probably in the same ballpark as this ride or at least 2 to 4 million.

Such good points about Frontier City. But, I am still skeptical about it going there. If it does... Awesome!!! However, I am NOT holding my breath! I just wish we knew... I can NOT stand the anticipation any longer!!

Exactly like I said up there. 7 million isn't crazy for a new coaster. Windseekers cost 6 million and I'm sure this is way better!

7 mil may just be the price of the actual ride hardware itself... not including the cost of installation (shipping, equipment to erect the ride), construction (labor, grading/etc).... so the total investment may actually be much higher.

I think the windseeker price tag, along with many other price figures released by parks are all total investment figures not just the ride.

That could be true. But it can't be a lot more maybe 10 or12 million if that isn't including installation. I mean it could be more if the ride were to be heavily themed. But I doubt it would unless it was going to a Disney park or SDC/dollywood.

Do you think that this could possibly be going to Silverwood? They haven't gotten a new large coaster in a while.

I would rather have the rumored RMC come to Silverwood first. Hopefully 2016 is their year for it.

Silverwood have a really bad-ass RMC waiting to be built when they have the funds, so I don't think they will get another coaster before they can build that one.

Not to hijack this thread, but Silverwood should be investing in their 2 awesome woodies before getting a new large coaster. I'm talking about making the proper modifications to improve capacity because right now it's pitiful. ...Both coasters need to be run with 2 trains.

The proper modifications needed would be the employees or how they do things there, because wait times are long for all the rides, not just those two woodies. I waited for their trabant ride about five minutes. Me and my friends were the only people on and didn't have to wait any cycles, yet still took five minutes for the ride to start.

(I work in Rides at Silverwood)

Trabant is a bad example, IMO. We have the rather slow loading and unloading because we regularly have operators (and guests) who hurt themselves in those stupid lap bars. Although 2 people shouldn't take more than 30 seconds at most to load and start (speaking from experience). Many ops don't seem to like to keep moving quickly though.

As far as the woodies, the issue is that the ride isn't really long enough to have multiple trains. It'd take constant full staffing (which we've never had this year) whenever we were to run multiple trains. Even with 4 ops, cycles are around 3:10, and the rides themselves are about 1:20. There's not a lot of room for error or anything holding things up. I'm certainly not "happy" with how a few specific rides are ran, but some things we just can't control.

As far as a Free-Spin for Silverwood, I'd love to see one at the park. Our coaster maintenance has more than proven themselves to be able to keep complicated coasters running. And, we generally like to do things that are slightly unorthodox.

BATMAN™: The Ride — A New Coaster Concept Premiering at Six Flags Fiesta Texas Summer 2015

4D Wing Coaster Innovation is the Most Exciting Thrill Ride in the Park’s History

Six Flags Fiesta Texas today unveiled plans to debut the most exciting coaster in the park’s 22-year history — BATMAN™: The Ride, premiering in 2015. After being lifted straight up a 120-foot hill, this 4D Wing Coaster challenges riders to “face their fears” as they flip head-over-heels at least six times along the weightless, tumbling journey. Along the way on this 4th dimension free-fly coaster, thrill seekers experience exhilarating coaster hills and unexpected drops along with an interactive ride experience. BATMAN™: The Ride allows adrenaline seekers to soar outside the confines of the track and fly like Batman.

“Every year we continue to provide more and more innovative technology and excitement for our park guests and season pass holders. BATMAN™: The Ride is an entirely new concept in ride engineering and will provide a sensory experience like no other coaster. The unanticipated tumbling will add even more thrills as riders travel along the dipping and swirling track,” said park president Martin Bozer.

BATMAN™: The Ride features a massive, imposing, floating and twisting track frame, in which ride vehicles begin their journey by traveling up a 120-foot elevator-type lift before being released for their highly unusual sensory journey…including two beyond-vertical free falls, in addition to the six head-over-heels spins. Not only is BATMAN™: The Ride the most exciting thrill ride in Six Flags Fiesta Texas history, it is currently not available anywhere else on the planet. This attraction, based on the comic, will offer a total immersion into the Batman storyline with numerous special effects including the world-famous Batmobile and Bat-Signal.

The unique construction of BATMAN™: The Ride features:

The world’s first, one-of-a-kind onboard magnetic technology featuring six smooth head-over-heels free-fly flips providing guests the feeling of weightlessness as they soar outside the confines of a traditional track;

A 4D wing coaster that seats up to eight and has riders “face their fears” by allowing them to physically face each other as they tumble head-over-heels;

A 120-foot tall hill that is ascended by an elevator-style lift straight up;

Two beyond 90-degree raven drops giving the sensation of free-falling;

Five vehicles with eight passengers each;

A Bruce Wayne/Batman theme throughout the queue line featuring the Batmobile and Bat-Signal.

  • 3 years later...

I wasn’t sure where exactly to post this, but I felt this was the most appropriate thread.

You have probably heard about this elsewhere on the Internet, but I haven’t seen anything posted on TPR, so I thought I would share.

I go to school at Utah State University, which is just a few miles away from the S&S facility in Logan, Utah. I heard on Twitter they were building some new contraption, so of course my friend and I drove down to check it out. It’s very interesting... it reminds me of Arrow’s old steeplechase coaster like the one at Blackpool or the Soap Box Racers that were at Knott’s way back when.

Please note that these photos were taken on public roads/sidewalks. I would never trespass to take photos. It was very convenient that the coaster was just a few yards away from the road, allowing for several angles to take photos.

It’s also a complete circuit, and if you looks closely in the third photo, there is a small car on the track. Color me intrigued.

What do you think?
