cfc
Here are two of my more interesting park mugs--and I do, indeed, drink coffee out of them. Got this one at Paris Disney. This one is from Liseberg, of course. The other side has that goofy Liseberg bunny.
Nrthwnd
^^ Yes I do use pretty much all of them, Bob. However, there are several smaller mugs I have that were gotten by way as a 'freebie' with a dessert etc. Tokyo Disney offered this a lot, and the smaller cups are more suited to expressos and such. So there are a few on display in one of the kitchen windows. But the rest are either on two racks up on the walls, or in the cupboards within close reach. (And photos of the racks and assortments will be shown, eventually.) ^ Chuck, those are both great mugs! The ToT looks like it's in keeping with 'the era' that ToT exisited (before that 'accident'). And the Balder one is awesome - is it actually at a 70' angle? And that wierd rabbit mascot too. Excellent! Â Here's another from me - my First Disneyland Paris Mug, bought in our first visit to DLPR in the fall of 2002. This was the 10th Anniversary of the resort, and also the opening year for the Studios, next door to the Magic Kingdom. Which true to the tales, was really back then, a 1/2 day park! I hear there are a few more things to keep everybody occupied there , and more to come with the new Ratatouille Attraction, opening this year. Â I visited DLPR three more times since then (2004-07=08), and the mugs have gotten substantially BIGGER, lol. But this was my first one from there. On one side, dark blue on white. And on the other side - the opposite! (o: The bottom of it.
Nrthwnd
Continuing with a couple more Disney park mugs... Â Tokyo Disneyland Halloween - 2007 Â This was bought on the first TPR Japan tour I took, back in Sept.of 2007. Immediately, it was not the best time of year to visit, with typhoons offshore (and we just missed a near total shutdown of trains one night due to one, thanks to Elissa's amazing "Plan B" skills), and it very VERY HUMID most of the time. Mid-June seems to be now, the preferred choice of when to re-visit Japan, but at this time, September was it. Â This was also the first year (I believe), that the Haunted Mansion in TDL got the NBC overlay. So we got to ride it literally a week or so, after it debuted, all fresh and new. In September! And this was the basic design for the 2007 Halloween Poster in TDL, highlighting NBC....with Scary Teddy on the handle! Very cool. How it looks, in the front. And in back. I love this mug. One of my absolute faves, currently. A lot of information on the bottom, there. I <3 Scary Teddy. Always have, since his Incredible Acting Debut in NBC. Under one minute on screen? A pro. That same visit. Peter/Loefet and me with a "triple play" in FastPasses, for 3 rides including HM, in front of it with Jack's sled up top there. And it really was a great ride-through! Nrthwnd
And to finish up this week... Â Shiriki Utundu in Tokyo Disney Sea - 2011 Â This was The Mug I ended up with, from my next TPR Tour to Tokyo Disney Resort. This time, we had the added treat of staying in an on-site partner hotel with TDLR, The Tokyo Bay Hilton. Awesome hotel, easy access to the parks via monorail, and access as well, to one of the more interesting Tower of Terrors in the Disney Parks chain. And we stayed there again in 2013. So I think this is now The Unofficial TPR Hotel at TDLR, heh. Â The Japanese (up to the computer age, I guess) had never heard of nor ever seen episodes of "The Twilight Zone". Which is what the other three (including Paris' version) are based on. So a back story had to be created that was new and totally original. And in the theme of where the attraction was, in this case, The American waterfront. And they came up with a doozy of one. lol. Â Colonel Hightower "collected" things from around the world. And as you look at framed photos, and tour the hotel basement, it appears he never asked for anything. He just took it. Stole it. Even one of the Easter Island statues! Evil man with a fabulous hotel, scheduled to open up at the end of 1939 - and then disaster struck. And Hightower disappeared....for ever. The hotel was reopened decades later, for historical tours. Â And then we all found out about Shiriki Utundu, a foot high or so, little statue that has evil stuff all over it. And evil would result if the statue was stolen, or taken without permission...... Â The attraction is a masterful redesign of the show building itself, with the whole themeing and atmosphere created around this new storyline. And it all exits into what used to be a really great ToT gift shop (the former "indoor swimming pool" of the hotel, filled in and tiled over). But the character merchandise started to infiltrate this corner of the American Waterfront, and ToT souvenirs had/have become a bit more minimal in there. Â Still, I got this mug back in 2011. And on the next visit (2013) I got a great t-shirt and Shiriki stuff, too. Even Stitch is (somewhat) in awe of Shiriki. The front of the mug. With Shiriki in hiding, inside the mug. And of course, Stitch has to check Shiriki out. BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ! With the very important warning, clearly spelled out, including Shiriki's name. Bottom stuff. Always important. What I picked up in the 2013 visit. A great movie poster-like t-shirt; Shiriki in a smaller, more carry-size....uh...size; a pen that laughs at you, with light up green eyes. Cool stuff! One of my last shots of ToT, the last day we spent at TDLR, before heading home, July 2013.

thrillerman1
Great mugs from TDL. It would be great if Shiriki could perform a disappearing act the more you drink out of the mug...then magically reappears as you refill lol. Love my Nightmare Before Christmas mug too! Nrthwnd
^ That would be very cool, if the mug did that, Mark! And who knows? They may come up with something like that, eventually. Â ^^ And even though you don't have a place of your own to show (and use) a mug collection, you could start collecting 'lightly', wrap them separately in paper and keep them in a sturdy box, easy to travel, and ready with all your mugs when you finally bring them out to use and display in your apartment. Â Speaking of "display", here's a photo of the first mug rack I have had for a long time, before a new second one was given to me. This one has all the mugs I have just featured this past week or so. On display, but always in use, too. And all dishwasher safe! This is the set of "regular sized" mugs I have. Smaller and bigger ones, to be shown soon. Nrthwnd
So, now I'm going to "show and tell" about the mug collection I have, that are more for displaying than use. Most of them are small demi tasse type cups, ones that would be great for expresso...but not for me, lol. So I will start this off with... Â The Italians: Gardaland and Mirabilandia - 2010 Â Going back to my medical probs I had just before this 2010 tour to Europe, when we arrived in Italy on a VERY EARLY flight from London, my head (and body) weren't too much into what was happening that day. We'd gotten up very early, done the flight, bus to the hotel, put all the bags in a room, then head over to Gardaland. Â And we walked from the hotel to the park entrance. A long walk, In the hot morning sun. For myself, that was pretty intense. Â So not only did I not take any photos in Gardaland, I didn't really look out for any souvenirs, until I saw this tiny teeny cup in the hotel's gift shop. I liked it and somehow I convinced myself there was a use for this little cup. Â The next day, we bussed over to Mirabilandia Park. I had had a good night's sleep and was much more ready for the day to come. And again, it was a lot of walking around the park, but I found it much more manageable than Gardaland (GL had a horseshoe type of layout which made any kind of short cut kind of not gonna happen). Â So the second the mug is from Mirabilandia, a bit bigger, with a nice blueish colouring all over it... Here they are, Gardaland and Mirabilandia! Back view. Not much to see, although I believe GLs mascots (?) are all over the little cup. They almost look like characters from the Warner Bros.Company, home of Porky Pig, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. The Bottom. And look - the writing's in Italian! Who knew! (o; Here's where they're being used. GL for my individual instant drink mixes. And MB for my individual instant coffees. Perfect! Nrthwnd
Hansa Park - 2009 Â Hansa Park was the "non-Scandinavian park" we got to enjoy as part of the 2009 TPR Scandi Tour, soon to be repeated this coming June. Â We took a short (under two hours) ferry from Denmark to Germany, visited Hansa, then bussed back up through Denmark, eventually to our next (and a bit longer) ferry crossing. With parks in between, of course! Â Hansa had as it's new coaster for that year, Fluch von Nogorod, a new Euro Fighter, that was "almost" totally enclosed for the entire ride. But they were so eager to open the coaster, have it running, especially with our group visiting, some of the themeing of part of it (including the enclosed vertical lift tower) hadn't been finished yet. So with continued nice apologies for it, the staff and management put us on for ERT, and it was awesome! Even without everything working just yet, at that time. It was great. Worth several re-rides. Â The mug is from the gift shop near the front entrance. It's depicting a (then) evening lights parade, not unlike Disney's Main Street Electrical Parade. Unfortunately we couldn't stay long enough, into the evening, to enjoy the show. We had to leave and start bussing back into and through Denmark. Such are TPR Tours' schedules... When I get the hang of it, I can do a "panorama" of this mug. But in the mean time, here's the "left side" of it. And here's "the middle" of it with the park;s name front and centre. And "the right side" of the mug. Looked like a great night lights paradem there. There was nothing on the bottom to show, so here's where it rests in the kitchen window, Here's the coaster with the 'unfinished' tower, back in 2009. No matter. The ride was AWESOME! Nrthwnd
La Feria Park, Mexico - 2013 Â On the TPR Mexico Tour back in March of last year, there weren't a lot of parks to visit, seeing we had only one week to see them all. But all the big parks were great in their own individual ways. Â La Feria was laid out in a few 'levels', and included three walking tunnels through their main wooden coaster, to get to other rides on the other side of it. Â And it was in one of these tunnels, a small gift stand had been set up, and these unique mugs were being sold. Unique, as in they came with their own stirring spoon! And small holes in it's handle to hold the spoon. Very cool idea. And of course, I got mine in red, my fave colour on earth, lol. Â But I didn't want to either lose or break the spoon. And knowing me, one or the other was bound to happen. So for now, it's "on display" at this time. Here's the mug and spoon. Back of the mug. Spoon is 'resting'. (o; The bottom information, which looks like it can be peeled off of the mug. Where it sits, with an Easter Palm weaving I picked up, along with a little wooden flute I got at Parque Bicentenario, on the way to Guadalajara. Marvin and me at La Feria. He was part of a few "packs of clowns" roaming the park. Sweet guy. I am hoping I run into him again, when TPR returns in....2015?
Nrthwnd
Starbucks ~ Shenzhen, China  The truth is, I have never been a fan of Starbucks. And I rarely, if ever, get coffee to take with me, etc. But during the TPR 2012 China Tour, I became addicted to their Mocha Frapiccinos. So at Knight Valley park in Shenzhen, they had this awesome terrain wooden coaster called Wood Coaster (really?). And after my group had dined at another Pizza Hut onsite (great pizzas AND restaurant seating and service!), I found a Starbucks a few feet away.  But this time, I took a look around, and found this pair of small cups, with the city name and country on them. Now I have/had no idea that they did this at most (all?) SB franchises. Heck, I have no idea if our own local SB has them for Vancouver. But I liked them, and bought them. And didn't buy any other pairs, even if I saw them.  (EDIT to add: And Bob/Gisco, are these the kinds of SB cups you have collected around the world? Or regular sized mugs? Just checking here.) Side by Side by Shenzhen! The back. I really like the continuing graphics around the cups. The Bottoms. Whew, Made in China! And I wanted to show this lovely dragon on the red cup. Happy New Year China! (Jan.31) Wooden Coaster at Knight Valley. A really great coaster. I loved it.
Nrthwnd
Efteling Park - 2010 Â Efteling park is one of my absolute favourite parks in Europe. The landscaping, the assortment of family and thrill rides, the garden areas.... it is one of the most lovely parks to just walk around in, and not even ride anything! A lot of the park is based on Hans Christian Andersen stories and has a great garden area walk-through with scenes from all the tales. Â The new coaster that was opening at the park during our visit, replacing a wooden coaster called Pegasus, a dueling racing wooden coaster called (translated) George & The Dragon. A great coaster with banners of the winning 'team' coming down in the station, as the winning train arrives. Very cool to experience that! Â The small cup was gotten from one of the eateries near the big lake in the park, that has tow boat rides going around and across it. The cup was a sort of "freebie" (I'll call it), where you buy something to drink, the cup is yours. Tokyo Disney Resort does this a lot, so it's nice to find something like this in another park. Sweet little cup. I liked the colours on it, too. The other side, with one of Efteling's....uh....gnomes on it? And an extra pic, showing Efteling's Famous Sh**ing Donkey! You put money in front, a coin gets 'launched' out the back, LOL.
Nrthwnd
Fuji-Q Highland Park - Thomas Land - 2013 Â Of everything that is said about, or complained about, Fuji-Q Park in Japan, it actually does have a few spots here and there in the park, that are really nice spots. One place is the little mini-Fuji in the park, with stairs to walk up to it, and get a pretty good view of the park, and of Mount Fuji too, when there aren't a lot of clouds over and covering it. Â Another place is the kid/family friendly Thomas Land section of the park. Based on the successful UK children's show about "trains with personalities", this little area in Fuji is a lovely, landscaped place with a neat dark ride about Thomas and all his friends, a coaster which is a pretty intense little one at that, and spots to just relax, eat, and enjoy the day. Â I got the Thomas cup from the eating place there in TL. It was with a dessert, as a "freebie" like they do in Tokyo Disney Resort. And it was one of The Few Things in Fuji-Q I could find, that had the logo of the park on it! Same thing went for a face cloth I picked up, there. The logo is there, but so is Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel on it . Oh well, better than no logo at all, yes? No? Â Here's the mug and face cloth... Starting on this side of the mini-mug... Lots of Thomas' friends featured on here. And some animals... And look! A Fuji-Q Logo, too! Below Fuji itself!!! And the handle part. There was nothing on the bottom of it. )o: And what ARE those two chickens for? The facecloth. With the logo in the lower right corner, see? Yeah, with Daniel and Kitty, too. Too much Hello Kitty can cause massive building ideas! It's somewhere in Japan, unfortunately not in Fuji-Q Higland Park, lol. Had to EDIT this one in (o; But is THIS what someone meant by "setting a park on fire"? Done!
Nrthwnd
Before the First TPR Tour Started - 2006 Â This was my first TPR tour, and the first public one that Robb and Elissa organized for any and all of us in the TPR community. It was to be mainly in England, with a quick dash over to Wales (and my #100 in Oakwood - Clown Coaster!), and an "add-on" which consisted of about 24 hours in Scandinavia visiting two great parks, riding great coasters, mad dashing around.... Awesome! Â But - before this tour started, I tacked on an extra week, so that I could stay and visit with old friends in Southend-on-Sea (home of RAGE in Adventure Island), and London. Â And in London, I got to see two West End musicals, one US import in previews week (Avenue Q) and the other, an original musical in it's second year of production, Mary Poppins. And I got the mug for that show, before the first TPR UK Tour was off and running. Â I have to add/rant, after I had seen that production of MP, they started fiddling around with the original logo and lettering, and now it's bright colours, in your face lettering. The Broadway production has that. But I have the mug which has all the original logo and lettering. Much preferred, IMhO. Â And this is also a belated THANK YOU to Walt (Disney), and Mrs.Travers (Pamela) and the Sherman Bros.for a wonderful movie experience, one I have enjoyed for decades, since my first viewing at age 10-11. And main logo, 2006. I like that it looks like it was done in chalk. And the House on Cherry Tree Lane. Here's Mary Poppins, all in cherry blossoms. Good old "Made In China"! And then there's that word.... CD Cover of the London Company. I like it so much more than what you see now, in the show's advertising.

Nrthwnd
^ LOL it would not surprise me... Â Tokyo Disney Easter in....June? (2011) Â This was my second trip to Japan with TPR, and my second visit to the Tokyo Disney Resort. It was also the finish of the Disneyland park's celebration of Easter. And about ready to get into it's summer season. So we caught the end of it, and I got the souvenir mug for it. Â Wierd, but it was nice, the Easter decorations still up were nice. And giant character "eggs" all over the park, too. And this neat group of "living statues" I enjoyed watching perform. The Easter Mug of TDL. Back view of it. Mickey and Minnie on the inside. The bottom, with Donald and Daisy there. One of the Living Statues during the Easter Season of the park.
Nrthwnd
Celebrating Tanabata in TDL - 2013 Â Tanabata, meaning "Evening of the seventh" is a Japanese star festival, originating from the Chinese Qixi Festival. It celebrates the meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi (represented by the stars Vega and Altair respectively). According to legend, the Milky Way separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of the lunisolar calendar. The date of Tanabata varies by region of the country, but the first festivities begin on July 7 of the Gregorian calendar. The celebration is held at various days between July and August. Â While the Tokyo Disney Resort was busy celebrating it's year long+ 30th Anniversary, it of course had other smaller festivals and celebrations to enjoy. This is one of them, and it ran for only a few weeks. We caught the end of it, and I got a mug to remember the occasion. And characters were out in costumes like those on the cup. I found the dreadlocks on Max and Goofy...interesting. Â From the TDL Showtimes Flyer - Mickey and Minne dressed up as the sweethearts "Hikoboshi" (Altair) and "Orihime" (Vega) who are separated by the Milky Way all year except for the Tanabata period, will be greeting Guests in the Park for this Japanese "Star Festival" program. Also, Guests can write their wishes on a card and hang them on a special Tanabata monument in World Bazaar.(last photo) Here's the mug - note the 'roped' handle on it. Max and Goofy. Chip & Dale (or is it Dale & Chip?), Minnie and Daisy. Donald. And Mickey with Pluto. Bottom of the cup. Now why oh why, can't they make this "in Japan?" The Tanabata monument in World Bazaar. Nrthwnd
Tokyo Disney Resort Celebrates 30 Years! (2013) Â So, in addition to TDLR celebrating TANABATA during our TPR visit last summer, the resort was also celebrating it's 30 years of existence! Having opened on APRIL 15,1983 and continued to grow and expand, especially with a second gate (Disney Sea) in 2001, and new attractions, shows and celebrations, this a must-see resort in the Disney franchise. AND it was the very first overseas Disney park to open, after the American parks/resorts. Â And I am pretty sure the celebration is still going on as I type this, as most Major Disney park Events go. But back then, there was a "gift cup" available when buying a dessert, or something like that, at one or more of the park's restaurants. Â Naturally, I could not resist. The Mug, with the great neato "30" handle! And all the gang's here! There's the Goof. Man's Best Buddy. Ah, the Couple of The Hour. Happiness Was There! (o: Some of the in park balloons, lit up! Nrthwnd
Will That Be Plastic..? Â So, not to "take over" this Mugs Thread in any way, I have had the tendency (or lack of holding back) to also buy some beverage cups and glasses in plastic, too. I rarely, if ever, buy glasses in ...well, glass. Only for the smaller stuff, like shot glasses and liquor jiggers. Â Which will be covered tomorrow. Â Thankfully I don't have as many of these as I do coffee cups and mugs. Enough for one post... Here's the group. Minnie and Daisy were bought last summer at the Tokyo Bay Hilton Gift Shop. We needed bigger glasses for cocktails, and the in-room glasses just weren't going to cut it. And my fave colour is red, and David's....purple. Perfect! The back, with the bows. You can just make out Tokyo Disney Resort" in black ink on them. Hard to see, so take my word. The Big Three - Starting left, is a large drink cup from Disneyland Paris, 2007; large cup from Arabian Coast in Tokyo Disney Sea, 2007; and a nice green one from Phantasialand, 2010. Close up on the TDS cup. I don't know what the technique is called, but it's two images, one over the other, and the rippled stuff on top causes the image to....move? It' s the best I can come up with. I forget what this creature is called, or named, but I liked it the best of what saw at PhantasiaLand. Clear Stuff. Two glasses from Disneyland Paris. Left, 2002. Right, 2004. My "cocktail glass" from Tokyo Disneyland, 2013. Part of the 30th Anniversary year, it was a "time limited" celebration called "Summer Splash" and this came with a sundae in it! Nrthwnd
Or, would you prefer Glass, instead? Â Along with the plastic drinking ware I've found in parks, and related places, I also would come across something in glass that would cause me to buy it. Â In one case, it was a free glass - as long as you bought the wine (Vinarium;Tripsdrill). or in another case, one of the very few souvenirs that actually had the name of the park on it (Six Flags Mexico, true!). Â And most of the glass here is for the bar. Shooter glasses, single and double shots, and even a couple of juice glasses.... All the glass I got, here. Two non-park glasses. Actually they were each holding cold sake with a peel-off top. I picked them up in the massive food market (downstairs) opposite the Prince Shinagwa Hotel in Tokyo, 2011. One of the few things I found at SFM with the word "Mexico" on it. Mostly everything else just had the general Six Flags logo. Still, it's a nice shooter, all Red and Shiny! A two-shot from Hong Kong Disneyland, 2012. Now, would Minnie approve of this? Left: The "free glass" from Vinarium in Tripsdrill. Free with buying some wine, lol. Right: a small juice glass I actually bought at the park. Got both of them in the TPR 2008 Europe Tour. Back of the glasses. And I am sure that the "30" on the left, referred to the (then) park's Vinarium's 30th Birthday. My home park, Playland, and one of the 100th Birthday souvenirs for the annual fair it's part of, 2010. Along side it, a similar glass, bought during Tokyo Disney Resort's 30th Anny in 2013. Backs of the glasses. And see? 30 years of Happiness at TDLR! More shots and shooters. Europa Park (2010); Disneyland Paris (2002); AIR @ Alton Towers (2008). And two stir sticks! Mickey was for coffee (along with park-brand coffee packets) 2013, and the Raven was from the Jose Cuervo Factory Tour in Guadalajara Mexico, 2013 (it's the company's mascot). Where most of my "bar stuff" hangs out. Within easy reach... Me and my "free glass" and wine, in front of The Vinarium at Tripsdrill Park, 2008. Nrthwnd
"Maybe something to hold that beverage..." Â So after plastic glasses, and glass bar items, another "souvenir" I am always looking out for is Beverage Containers, such as over-sized drinking cups, park branded water bottles. That sort of stuff. Thankfully, I don't have as many of these as I do plastic, glass or coffee mugs. Â Here we go... All of this is mainly plastic. Overhead shot. Two of those drink 'things' from my home park Playland (PNE). The left one is for a specific attraction (2011). The one on the right, is another of those souvenirs celebrating our annual fair's 100th Birthday (2010) And that specific attraction is... HELLEVATOR! Close up of the logo for 2010. Three water bottles, all branded by their respective parks. Skara Sommerland (2009); Efteling Park (2010); Fuji-Q Highland Park (2013) Two more tall ones. On the left is my beer 'cup' from the TPR 2013 Mexico Tour. On the right, a simple container, one that was used for many many slushies in PhantasiaLand (2010). And a gas attack I have not forgotten, to this day, lol. Daisy and Donald on a sipping straw, by the light of day. (2013) But when the moon comes out - these two have Got It! Nrthwnd
And how about a mailing tube, for that bottle of Coke? Â Well, it was more or less, a much shorter cut of what a mailing tube should be. But it was all themed up for Tokyo Disney Resort's 30th Birthday - "Happiness Is here!", so I just couldn't resist getting one. And only one. Â And honestly, it still is one of The Most Unusual Theme park Souvenirs I have ever collected. Here's how it comes. I really wish that I had taken a photo of the "tower" of Cokes, there at Bon Voyage Gift Shop in TDLR. (2013) There it is! I see it! Out of the tube and onto the table. I forget how much this actually cost me. Probably over three times what an actual Coke would cost, by itself. (o; Special printing on the back. That 2013 date marks the 30th year of when the Resort officially opened. With just one park, back then. Disney Sea opened in 2001. And a pin I also had in my "other collection," that marked the occasion of that Opening Day. And here's where most of everything is stored. Not a great place to show it all off, but it's out of the way, and it looks okay where it is. Who knows? Maybe a window sill is in their future, lol. Nrthwnd
Actually, this isn't the first time, I have actually 'collected' something with a soft drink in it. Like the Coke from Tokyo Disneyland, last summer. Â And never opened it. Just a few... Simple Coca-Cola, right? Nope. I picked this up in October 1996, from a store in Big Pine Key in the Florida Keys! Saw the Olympics on TV - got the Coke. (o; And look! It had a Baby Coke! Actually I cannot remember how long I have had this. It came on a chain of some kind. Real metal cap, too. Don't know if the "Coke" inside it is real. Probably water. But, I always like to think that the good folks at Coke wouldn't do that. (back then) Remember when SNAPPLE came out with these "element drinks'? I don't think they lasted long, but I got all four of them, any way. And still unopened, too. Sun: Starfruit Orange fruit drink. Rain: Agave Cactus fruit drink. Fire: Dragon Fruit fruit drink. Earth: Grape Cranberry fruit drink. How they look in the window, when the sun shines through. Edited January 26, 2014 by Nrthwnd
