The first three hills are amazing, but then it becomes just a touch too intense for me and the finale feels like its going to give me whiplash or rip my head right off or something. So perhaps the person who put it in the middle is a person like me who, for their own strange reasons, didn't personally love El Toro, but also recognizes that there are things about that make it a "good" coaster which you just can't honestly stick at the bottom of the pile either. That certainly could effect the ratings since only 29 people ranked it. You don't see any other coasters outside of the Top 20 that so many well traveled enthusiasts have ranked in their personal Top 10. Coaster is such an out of the way coaster that many might only ride it one time. Not any time that I can remember, in my years of riding Coaster, Larry. It's always run in good shape (IMhO), and they've still never opted for seatbelts or OTSRs on it. There was a fire in the main Arcade a couple of decades ago, and it's located right beside the coaster. But apparently, only timber was 'scorched' and was fast replaced. The track wasn't affected at all. And last season I just saw new timber stacked beside the station, which I guess was for a before-the-PNE-happens (late August) "touch up" here and there. And yes, that's the unique thing that makes this coaster so special to get to and ride.... the location. But once you get here and ride it - you know why (most) everybody's raving about it. Don't worry, no one is on a manhunt for someone who doesn't prefer El Toro. I believe some people are just pointing out that people will sometimes go out of their way to put something down unnecessarily far in a petty attempt to prove a point. In my case, personally I love Phoenix to death, but I don't have it in my rankings in front of certain woodies in the Poll results. However, that doesn't mean I would put Pheonix with Hades 360 just to spite it and make sure it's not ahead of another woodie I like better. How many years has it been since Wildcat dished out pain free rides? Personally, I have Hell Cat at Timber Falls ranked above El Toro. My fifteen rides on Hell Cat in one day were insane. I hear it doesn't run as well now, but I can only base my ranking on my rides. I saw someone had Ghost Rider at the top of their list. I can't fault them if the only time they rode it was during the early years or if they rank only on their best ride ever on a coaster. Some people have a bunch of racers above El Toro, I can even understand that if you love the racing effect. But when a coaster has never been near the Top 10 and is ranked ahead of an established Top 10 coaster, it makes no sense. How many years has it been since Wildcat dished out pain free rides? Wildcat was pretty decent early in the season last year, the park seemed to have re-tracked a lot the ride. It's a shame with that place, they had plenty of potentially great coasters poorly maintained and run poorly. Ride of Steel was terrible, so sluggish; Roar, as mentioned previously; Wild One, was just Mild One and didn't live up to it's rep; and the Premier spaghetti bowl launch was so weak and it crawled through the course. booink Posted February 3, 2014 Share Posted February 3, 2014 Wildcat at Compounce was my bottom coaster years because of the coccyx crushing roughness - I last rode it in 2011. Finally, it's been supplanted by Hades 360. "Coccyx crushing roughness" is a pretty good description of my ride on Roar last year. SFA should open an in-house chiropractor near the exit. It's a shame with that place, they had plenty of potentially great coasters poorly maintained and run poorly. Ride of Steel was terrible, so sluggish; Roar, as mentioned previously; Wild One, was just Mild One and didn't live up to it's rep; and the Premier spaghetti bowl launch was so weak and it crawled through the course. Mild / Wild One was better as Giant Coaster in Massachusetts. I rode it as a kid. I remember it had more airtime in the turn around than the current version in Maryland. http://rcdb.com/147.htm?p=20056 shows how the top of the turn around used to be sharper, you can see remnants of this in the current configuration (old supports under the new track). There's not really any airtime now, even in the front, when cresting the top of the turn around. The helix in the current version didn't exist in Massachusetts, at least not when I rode it. I think it was part of the original design but was ruined in a fire, and not part of the repair. Anyone else ride the before and after versions? Wild One is better than Roar, the worst GCI I've ridden (worse than Hersheypark's Wild cat). Roar West (SFDK) isn't good but it's not as bad as this. Maybe it was good when it was new ... Iron Wolf was also better in its original location. SFA is the "Dorney Park" of Six Flags (a place to send old coasters). Ride of Steel is SFA's best coaster, although with a slight bit more creativity (small hills instead of straight sections) it could have been much better. (this past year) And superman was not sluggish it was close to El Toro violent for me.. I've been on i305 and I found it to be comparable in airtime pacing and force intensity.
