What would your Amusement Park trip be like?

Recommended Posts

What would your amusement park trip be like if you had 3, 4, 7 days or more for your trip? How would you plan it? Where would you like to go? I have some ideas below, but I’m wondering what other people on the site might plan.

4 Day Trip –

Day 1 - Fly into San Antonio on an early flight. Go to Sea World. See the Alamo, hit the River Walk for dinner.

Day 2 – Go to Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Fly to Dallas that night.

Day 3 – Go to Six Flags Over Texas.

Day 4 – Fly home

Pretty quick trip, but I hope everyone understands where I’m going with this.

9 Day Trip -

Day 1 – Fly to Cleveland, Detroit, or Columbus (depends on ticket prices). Drive to Cedar Point. Go to Cedar Point at night.

Day 2 – Cedar Point all day, probably get fast lane.

Day 3 – Cedar Point in the morning, drive to Michigan’s Adventure. Depending on time, go to MA that afternoon/night.

Day 4 – MA in the morning, head to Indiana Beach. Go to IB, depending on arrival

Day 5 – IB in the morning/early afternoon. Drive to Santa Claus for Holiday World (try for Holiwood Nights to be mixed in here).

Day 6 – Day 2 of Holiwood Nights. Go to Beach Bend to ride Kentucky Rumbler before night time ERT at Holiwood Nights.

Day 7 – Drive to Kings Island. Go to KI at night, try to get a night ride on The Beast!

Day 8 – ERT at KI on Diamondback and The Beast. Ride everything else after, maybe get a Fast Lane pass depending on Crowds. Drive to Columbus, Cleveland, or Detroit to fly home. This also might help you choose your incoming airport.

Day 9 – Fly home

Nothing is perfect and I think some have jobs that don’t allow for so many vacation days, but I wanted to know what other people plan/dream for the Roller Coaster vacations. I usually start with an event (Holiwood Nights) and add around that event.

No need to fly. We just did a three day trip to texas, which could be done without skipping sea world:

Day 1: Fly into dallas early: go to SFOT(wasn't open to weather…), then drive to san antonio(4 hours depending on traffic). Sleep in san antonio.

Day 2: Do SFFT and possibly sea world, enjoy river walk(again weather ruined). Drive to houston. Sleep in houston/galveston.

Day 3: Pleasure pier and kemah boardwalk. Anything else in houston, fly out of houston.

only issue is renting a car(different pickup/dropoff) and some decent amount of driving, wasn't too bad with 2 people.

Honestly the answer here is go on a tpr tour if possible.

My favorite coaster trips have always been road trips of typically about a weeks length. I would always aim at going to 4 or 5 parks in a 7 day time frame because I find that a few rest days are necessary to remain sane and actually enjoy each destination, especially when doing all that driving. For example I went on a 7 day trip where I drove from Chicago (my hometown), to Toronto (Canada's Wonderland), Montreal (La Ronde), Lake George (Great Escape), NYC (SFGAd), and also hit Cedar Point for a half-day on the way back to Chicago.

I prefer driving simply because I love to be able to have the freedom of my own car (not some cheap base model rental). Obviously some destinations would require flights, but I only opt when truly necessary, I haven't ventured to any parks over seas just yet..

Recently I've also been into "Daycations" where I'll wake up early and go to a park within 4-6 hours away and comeback at night. Being able to stand long car rides is one thing I'm grateful of.

I did a 4 day trip with a few folks here and it worked perfectly...plus we found great deals at hotels (most of them are found with a quick search here and come highly recommended) - if you visit my neck of the woods, you can always PM me with other questions.

Here is our fun schedule with a decent amount of driving, but well worth it and the 4 of us had a blast:

Day 1: Cedar Point (you can fly into DTW and drive 2hrs, or fly to Cleveland and drive an hour) then drive halfway or all the way to Cincy depending on what you would like or the logistics around how tired you may be...

Day 2: Kings Island

Day 3: Holiday World

Day 4: Homeward bound with extra credits a few hours north of HW at IN Beach*

*Could always scrap the drive to IN Beach and hit up SFGAm (much better choice with more credits) and fly out of O'hare

I wish I had 7 days perhaps to make a full week trip out of things...my ideal would be a big TPR international trip (I want to go back to Japan so bad and will in a few years unless all the kinks get ironed out with work/family, etc).

Day 2 - SFoT

Day 3 - Joyland, Western Playland

Day 4 - Cliffs

Day 5 - Wonderland

We like to do 1 - 2 big road trips a year. I don't mind driving, especially at night, although it is easier for us since we're self contained in our rv. Here's how our trip went for spring break this year.

- leave after work on Thursday

- stop at a truck stop around 2-3 am for a few hours of sleep

- leave early Good Friday with a tire casualty along the way

photo01.JPG.51eaf784964d85e3ef433404243d781b.JPG

Hey - where did it go!?!

- still manage to arrive in Dallas at the beginning of rush hour

- SFOT that evening and on Saturday - It was amazing that ALL the coasters were running so we got all the credits.

- leave early on Easter Sunday and head south to San Antonio (4 1/2 hours). Spend the day at SFFT then the evening in downtown checking out the Alamo, etc. All the coasters were running except iRat which wasn't open yet

- SWSA on Monday

- leave Monday afternoon, arrive middle of the night at a Louisiana truck stop for a few hours of rest

- leave early Tuesday morning and arrive Gulf Shores, AL to pick up a woody credit (Cannonball Run). We planned to stay there 1-2 hours to eat then head home. The coaster was down and they let me know the part was due in that day. We decided to stay overnight and got a campsite at a campground (Gulf Shores State Park has a great campground). By that evening the coaster was up and running - +1 credit!

- leave early the next day (~4:30 AM is early for me) and return home early afternoon.

We made the 2700 mile trip in five days.

We have another trip coming up shortly that will be 5300 miles taking us to Anaheim, CA and back. We'll be taking 15 days for this trip, though.

USA_Trip.JPG.6543ebbf8b67fe9493346095a2ec6535.JPG

You may note that this trip was strategically planned so I could pick up the iRat credit along the way assuming the weather cooperates.

Our family was planning a European cruise in winter 2014, however a car accident got in our way. After having to pay for that, the budget's dropped so we're sticking with a car trip next year. We managed to pull a Canada trip last minute this year because of the furlough, but that turned into a major bust, so we're redoing everything next August. Here's my ideal itinerary.

Day 1: Williamsburg VA to Washington DC - Stay with family. Pick sister up

Day 2: Washington DC to Jackson NJ - drive by night up to upstate NY for a rest area stop - Six Flags Great Adventure stopover. Whether or not we decide to stay through the night and sleep in the area or straight shoot it up to Canada is still up in the air right now. I'm gonna assume we're stopping at a rest stop.

Day 3: Rest stop to Montreal for a full on culture day. Revisit St. Joseph's Cathedral and check out the other cool sights the city has to offer. Book a hotel room and spend the night

Day 4: Montreal to Quebec City and back - full on culture day. Check out the cool downtown and a cool cathedral that we missed out on during the last trip due to lack of planning. Head back to the hotel in Montreal

Day 5: Montreal to Toronto - stop at relative's house and stay. Culture tour around the city in the afternoon

Day 6: Canada's Wonderland

Day 7: Toronto to Hershey PA - tour the parts of Hershey that I missed on my last trip there

Day 8: Hersheypark & Chocolate World - leave at around 9 or so back to DC

Day 9: Washington DC to see family and drop sister off at home

Day 10: Kings Dominion stopover - leave park around 9-ish and head home

So that's two long overdue revisits (KD and CW), a Hersheypark revisit, and a new park. I'd include a few smaller parks too, but my family isn't as into parks as I am. If given the option, I'd probably do a Knoebels or a Kennywood/Waldameer side trip. Those aren't as likely to happen though.

I like the idea of the Dallas-Houston-San Antonio loop but haven't put a lot of thought into it yet. I usually wait until it can become a reality before doing any detail planning. 2014 is over booked for me and I will wait until TPR trips in 2015 are announced before I see if it is feasible for that year.

I do know that I would do a complete loop because it would be cheaper for me to fly in and out of the same airport(DFW) plus no drop off charge returning a rental car to another location.

Talking about doing a midwest tour next year.

Day 1-SFGAm, than a 4 hour drive to..

Day 2-Michigan's Adventure, than a 3 hour drive to...

Day 3- Indiana Beach, than another 3 hour drive to...

Day 4-Holiday World, than a 1 hour drive to...

Day-5 Kentucky Kingdom, than a 2 hour drive to...

Day 6-Kings Island, spend another night, than take an 8 hour drive back home.

In 2014 I'm thinking these 2 trips:

Trip 1 Germany:

Day 1: Drive to Kiel (Germany) and take the ferry to Göteborg (Sweden).

Day 2: Get from the ferry and drive to Liseberg (visit the park) drive back to the ferry back to Kiel.

Day 3: Ride from Kiel to Heide park and visit. Get to hotel afterwards.

Day 4: Get from hotel to Movie park and visit the park before driving home.

Trip 2 England:

Day 1: Drive to train or Ferry. (Depending on the choice).

Day 2: Arriving at England and try to get to the hotel of stay.

Day 3: Find my way to Alton and visit.

Day 4: Return to Alton and visit for more fun.

Day 5: Find my way to Flamingo land and visit.

Day 6: Find my way to Thorpe park. (Perhaps start to go back home)

Day 7: Or begin the drive home or arrive at home.

Day 8: (Possible) extra day to get home.

I'll probably be doing 1 of these 4 scenarios next year. It's going to be a baseball/roller coaster trip for me.

Option 1:

Day 1: Drive from Jersey to Toronto with a stop at Niagara Falls

Day 2: Canada's Wonderland and Blue Jays game

Day 3: Hockey HOF and drive back to Jersey

Option 2:

Day 1: Drive from Jersey to Pittsburgh for Pirates game.

Day 2: Drive to Detroit for Tigers game.

Day 3: Drive to Cleveland (maybe a trip to CP before this) for Indians game.

Day 4: Drive to Kings Island and then Reds game.

Day 5: Drive back to Jersey.

Option 3:

Day 1: Drive from Jersey to Chicago

Day 2: SFGam

Day 3: White Sox game and maybe tour Chicago

Day 4: Drive to Milwaukee for Brewers game

Day 5: Drive home to Jersey

Option 4:

Day 1: Drive from Jersey to Kansas City

Day 2: Royals game and drive to Silver Dollar City

Day 3: SDC and drive to St. Louis

Day 4: Cardinals game and explore St. Louis

Day 5: Drive home to Jersey

Any advice on which option you think is best/realistic is welcomed and appreciated. We're trying to keep the trip under 3K.

Kennywood should also been included. Something like link below.
