The Knott's Berry Farm (KBF) Discussion Thread

P. 651: Montezooma's Revenge project terminated?

Recommended Posts

Did they just announce the above? I was at the park today, using up the last of my Season Pass (I now qualify for an out-of-state season pass holder, which lasts through June). I didn't plan on renewing as I'll be out of state for much of 2022, but I'll likely re-purchase for 2023 and hopefully get a free December visit thrown in.

The park wasn't crowded today, but Knotts is very much in prep-for-summer mode. Lots of rides were closed (more than what was already known), and ops were quite scaled back. As the result, what was open saw some lines longer than what's usually expected at this time of year. I waited 45 mins for Ghost Rider, which is probably the longest I've waited for it in years (totally worth it). Line-jumping has always been an issue at Knotts, but it was particularly wild today. That said, props to the Ghost Rider staff member who caught a few jumpers and booted them out the door.

I ended up just riding a few things, walking a bunch of laps, and then bailing — which was more than fine.

I think he meant "why are people, not the park, bothering the city, because absolutely nothing is going to happen."

I was always under the impression that the city had a HARD no rule about stuff involving the public roads.  That's why we've never seen anything try to expand west into the grassy overflow parking lot.  But maybe tunneling technology has improved to the point where it doesn't have to disrupt regular traffic on Beach?

To clarify, The city is not in the position to have casual conversation about what plans they may or may not have come.  to us its an awesome out of this world, boner inducing experience to see plans, to them it's just a job. . .

Thats what I always thought that the city wouldnt let them build over/under public streets just think about them closing beach down to dig that tunnel

Hi everybodee!

In the middle of planning our long awaited return to the US and this time I'll be bringing the wife and daughter instead of my sons.  Anyhoo, one place I want to bring them is Knotts, mainly as my wife is a HUGE Snoopy fan!

It's a good possibility that we could be making it over around late October this year and of course that is Halloween.  There's a good chance we may end up doing the Scary Farm event one night as well like on a Thursday.  When Scary Farm is on, how busy does it get during the day?  I'm guessing the night would be pretty popular and have a fair few people, but what is the daytime compared crowd wise?  We wouldn't be averse to doing the daytime for rides and coming back for Scary Farm to do the mazes (would be our first time ever experiencing anything like this - well except for me doing the walkthrough @ Universal) if this was a beneficial thing to do.

Cheers all.

Historically, Knotts is very quiet on the weekdays during Scary Farm. That said, crowd patterns seem less predictable now than before. Daytime for rides and nighttime for mazes (two separate entries) would likely work well, as long as it's not a weekend.

The other option is to get a Scary Farm fast pass which gets you straight into the mazes and right onto many of the rides.  That makes for a busy night, though.

the daytime will be pretty slow on a Thursday or Friday in October, should have no trouble getting on rides.  Thursdays are also the lightest crowd days for Scary Farm, but they do pick up a bit as you get closer to Halloween.  One downside is that you do have to exit and re-enter the park, even if you have a ticket for both.

I don’t think it would be impossible to construct a tunnel under Beach without having to close it.  And if they absolutely had to close it, they could in the middle of the night.

They would absolutely have to close the roadway (or a portion at a time) if they needed to construct a box culvert/bridge in that area for the coaster to pass through. Especially considering that Beach Blvd is a state route maintained by the DOT, the tunnel would require a whole slew of permitting, approvals, and construction phasing on its own by encroaching in the DOT's right-of-way. Whether this all affects the possibility of this project happening is debatable... but yeah, building a coaster under a state road would be complicated.

With that being said, regarding the City's tweets, I guess we just take from that what we will. I'm not sold on this project (or any variation) happening but those drawings also look just a little *too* good to be drawn up by some coaster dorks with spare time. As someone who works in site planning, land development, and roadway - these plans are fun and interesting to dissect no matter how legit they are!

Theme Park Review was invited to Knott’s Summer Nights!

Knott's Summer Nights has started!  It will be on select days throughout the summer.

Ghost Town alive really was alive yesterday.  Knott's seems to have double or tripled the amount of characters walking around the streets.  Characters were seemingly everywhere.

I mainly like to come to Summer Nights for the food and entertainment.   I wasn't able to stay too long, but I'll be back to watch some bands play.  I did get to see some of the food offerings this year.  Knott's also provided lunch from Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner restaurant.   Here's some pics and Knott's press release...

Great look at everything available during the Knott's Ghost Town Alive days and the Summer Nights, too.

By the way ...... Hatch Chilis? Are they 'hot' ones, or less so? Just curious, as I'd never heard of them, till now.

EDIT to add: I looked them up. So, they come from New Mexico and are (usually) roasted. Neat! 🌮

Per an Orange County Register article on June 9th, Knott's has announced that they currently have no plans to add a giga or hyper coaster in  the near future.   It might be hard to access the article behind the paywall but the short story is no new big coaster for a while.

There is another article on the site from June 7th, saying Xcelerator is waiting on parts from Europe and there is no set re-opening date.

Not surprised by either announcement tbh.

Also, this is the same thing happened to Xcel in 2017/2018, and the same thing that happened to Hangtime last year.  Knott's really needs to figure out a way to stock some more replacement pieces rather than having rides be down for months on end because they need stuff shipped from Intamin/Gerstlauer.
