The Knott's Berry Farm (KBF) Discussion Thread

P. 639: Montezooma's Revenge major renovations announced!

Recommended Posts

I went yesterday in the afternoon. The park was pretty crowded. I hit GhostRider first and it had over an hour wait, but I used the single Rider line and waited only about 15 minutes (tons of groups using the SRL)

After that I went to Santa's Christmas Cabin (wilderness dance hall) and got a cookies and cream cookie shot with peppermint schnapps for $10. The liquor was good, but the cookie was kinda hard to eat.

Then i hit the log ride, it only had a 10 minute wait! (It was only 50° out! Go figure?) It was fun as always but it was weird that they made me, a 28 year old man by himself sit in a middle seat with a 7 year old boy by himself. Kinda uncomfortable having to keep my knees up to my shoulders the whole ride.

Then I walked around for a bit, Xcel and Hangtime were both on one train and had over an hour wait (Hangtime was just over two hours.)

Then it was back to the Christmas Cabin for a cup of mulled wine! Very tasty! And it's served with an orange slices and cinnamon stick.

After that I saw the 5:30 Snoopy on Ice show. It was the same as last year, and just as spectacular! Be forewarned: it's even colder in the theater than it is outside! Also the quiet parts can be a little awkward when a bunch of tiny humans sound like they're being murdered. And I'm pretty sure the kid next to me crapped his pants at one point.

After the show I caught the snow and Glow in Ghost town. It was packed shoulder to shoulder and for some reason the audio wasn't working, which took away from the experience. And at that point I was so cold I couldn't feel my feet anymore so I took off. Not a bad day at the park at all, but there are definitely things that can be improved upon. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures this time due to my hands being numb, but I'll try to get some when I go on Sunday.

I took a very quick trip to Knott's last night since I haven't been since Scary Farm and at least wanted to see how the park looked at night. Knott's doesn't go crazy on the lighting like Six Flags does in certain areas. More seems like they make sure that there is decoration consistently throughout the park. Tons of garland and reefs all over. Park was pretty quiet this Thursday night before most schools are out. At least Silver Bullet, Hangtime and Xcelerator were total walk ons, and sending half or more empty trains. Anyway, I was only there for about an hour or so. Here's some pics...

So, I renewed my pass during the flash sale earlier this year, when the park offered a bring-a-friend-free ticket for renewing pass holders. Does anyone remember the deadline to use that ticket? I believe it was 12/15/19, but I can’t find any info on it anywhere.

Edit: I just called the park. It expired yesterday. [emoji58]

Catching up on photos from 2019 and wanted to post a batch from Knott's. Not a full trip report, not even gonna write captions for most of them, just sort of a "here, some stuff I thought looked cool."

Did a quick visit the morning of September 22 with John (coasterlvr) (thanks John!!!). Main point was to get the GhostRider credit I missed last year (wasn't operating for WCB) but also did a lap of the other good rides in about 2 and a half hours.

Just did one ride on GhostRider in the back row. It was fun. I thought it was funny to be on GCI trains on straight airtime hills, since GCIs are usually pretty twisted.

I got the regular version of the flume last year, and this year I got the Halloween overlay, which was really nice!

Aircraft sneaking into coaster photos, pt 1.

Thanks for being patient with my stupid artistic photo attempts, John.

Aircraft sneaking into coaster photos, pt 2.

So, this one deserves a caption. There was a mantis hanging out at the Xcel control booth, and the ride ops would even pick it up, put it on their shoulder, or just let it sit on the button. I guess they're all good friends.

Sometimes it's fun to look at the detail on rides (and their queues) -- the mine train is a great example.

In 2018, I completely forgot to look for the Catawampus.

In 2019, we found it.

They look kinda weird from the side.

That's it. Or...

...ok, that's not it, few bonus pictures from an impromptu Disney trip the night before. John knows how to get to the best spot in the parking garage in a hurry. Trust John for all your "watch the fireworks without paying a cent" desires.

This is one of those weird things that only looks right if you're standing at a certain angle.

I don't care how expensive this place is, or how long the line is, because it's worth it. Well, slightly more worth it when you sneak into the dwindling line 5 minutes after the place closed.

OK, that's it for real now.

I have a question regarding Platinum Passes: is your home park (where you get benefits like BAFF) considered the park where you purchased your pass online or the park where you process it? I will be purchasing a PP from WoF's website since it is my home park and where I'd like to receive benefits, but will be visiting Knott's in the next couple weeks and processing my pass there (this has to be done as such since WoF is already closed). Will this change my home park to Knott's?

The Knott's Boysenberry Festival is back for 2020 to celebrate the park's historic roots with their annual food-inspired event that highlights the little berry that started it all! Running from March 20 through April 19, the festival will feature more than 75 new and returning boysenberry-inspirited creations. In addition to the food and drink items, the festival will also feature a variety of entertainment and activities for all to enjoy.

The Tasting Card will work a bit more guest-friendly this year with the ability to choose 8 of the 26 following options:

1. Boysenberry Mimosa (New)

2. Boysenberry Basil Lemonade (New)

3. Boysenberry Beer Cheese Soup topped with a Boysenberry Drizzle and Brown Butter Croutons (New)

4. Brussel Sprouts topped with a Boysenberry Balsamic Dressing and Bacon (New)

5. Beef Tips with Boysenberry Mashed Potatoes (New)

6. Boysenberry Chicken Mole on Cilantro Rice (New)

7. Boysenberry Sangria

8. Boysenberry Cajun Shrimp over Grits (New)

9. Boysenberry BBQ Chick Drumsticks (New)

10. Boysenberry Steak Chili with a Boysenberry Cornbread Muffin (New)

11. Samosas with Boysenberry Chutney

12. Bork Bao Bum Dumpling with Boysenberry Kimchi and Nam Pla (New)

13. Boysenberry Shrimp Ceviche with Tortilla Chips (New)

14. Boysenberry Smoothie (New)

15. Homemade Chips with Boysenberry Onion Dip

16. Boysenberry sausage on a Bun

17. Elote with Boysenberry Mayo, Cotija Cheese, and Boysenberry Tortilla Crumbles

18. Mac and Cheese Bites with Boysenberry Ketchup (new)

19. Glazed Donut Holes with Boysenberry Ice Cream and topped with a Boysenberry Coulis (New)

20. Boysenberry Bread Pudding topped with Boysenberry Coulis and Crème Anglaise Sauce (New)

21. Pastrami Sandwich on a Pretzel Bun topped with Boysenberry Mustard (New)

22. Boysenberry Macron (New)

23. Churro rolled in Boysenberry Sugar (New)

24. Boysenberry Cookiewich (New)

25. Boysenberry Beer

26. Boysenberry Wine

With such a variety of options, I anticipate a much more successful spreading out of guests around the festival instead of the pre-fixe menu which had longer lines. The Tasting Card is $40 ($38 if you have a 2020 Season Pass). Make sure the items you select have an individual price of higher than $5, or a value of what you perceive to be higher than $5 so you get your moneys worth.

Although we took our own food photos at the Boysenberry Festival media preview this past week, the provided images look much better than our night photos. We will feature the provided photos of the food items so you can get a better sense of the high-quality food items. Let's eat!

Welcome back to the farm!

The Knott's family is ready to show off their boysenberry-inspired items for this year's festival!

We made our way through Ghost Town towards the Wilderness Dance Hall for the festivities.

Cordelia Knott was busy making her famous pies alongside the park's culinary team.

Snoopy was also ready to bake some pies!

Boysenberry Mimosa & Sangria

Boysenberry Beer & Wine (The beer is Shock Top with boysenberry instead of orange. The wine has a much more present boysenberry flavor than then beer.)

Boysenberry Shrimp Ceviche with Tortilla Chips (Very refreshing, especially if you go on a warmer day.)

Boysenberry Elote

Brussel Sprouts with Bacon

Samosas with Boysenberry Chutney

Mac and Cheese Bites with Boysenberry Ketchup

Boysenberry BBQ Chicken Drumsticks

Boysenberry Beer Cheese Soup (A favorite amongst those in attendance.)

Pastrami Sandwich on a Pretzel Bum topped with Boysenberry Mustard.

Pork Bao Bun Dumpling with Boysenberry Kimchi (The kimchi is very spicy.)

Boysenberry Chick Mole on Cilantro Rice

Boysenberry Sausage on a Bun (One of our favorites from last year.)

Boysenberry Steak Chili with Boysenberry Cornbread Muffin (The chili is good, but the Cornbread Muffin was amazing!)

Boysenberry Cajun Shrimp over Grits (This was our absolute favorite item at the preview! The shrimp was flavorful and tender and the grits were buttery and just perfect!)

Boysenberry Macarons

Boysenberry Cannoli

Boysenberry Cookiewich

Boysenberry Bread Pudding

Glazed Donut Holes with Boysenberry Ice Cream

These are about 1/3 of the festival offerings, so be sure to check out the event yourself from March 20 to April 19. See you at the farm!

Gaawwwwwwd I really REALLY want to go to this event in the not-too-distant....

All of the food and beverages being offered, look awesome, as is usual with this Knott's foodie event!

Thanks (and my gut says 'no thanks') for posting all you got about it.

Looks delicious. I'm bummed I miss the festival every year because it always occurs after my spring break. Once I graduate college next spring and get an actual job, you bet I'm making time to come down to California and try all this deliciousness (the festival has improved drastically since I was in high school!). This and Merry Farm are my two favorite times of the year at Knott's!

^ Seconded. It all looks really good!

And I still want one of those Boysenberry Hats (caps?) they might (still) be selling, this time round!

One's on her head, and one's in the pan! Photo from Knott's.

Knott's should sell all of their Boysenberry Festival baked goods online for now since everything is shut down.

That is a brilliant way to keep some team members working and bring in some cash. Put the stuff up for delivery!

^ Couldn't they work this through their Marketplace Bakery? For pickups? I know they shut all of it down, but maybe they could reopen this part of it for pickups. And then there's food banks that always could use the donations.
