The Knott's Berry Farm (KBF) Discussion Thread

P. 651: Montezooma's Revenge project terminated?

Recommended Posts

^I read this post about three times, and I can't come up with a solid counter. I agree with you in the sene that Knott's is the closest to the tourist magnet, so it would reap the splendor of over THE MOST, but It still has ben a few years since Knott's added anything that will knock spurs off folks' boots, and their about due for something big. (I'm hoping for a hyper)

I wonder if they would ever be willing to take out the parking lot where Ghostrider sits? The station for whatever coaster it is would be in the park, but the majority of the ride actually in the parking lot next to GH? Maybe use the Mystery Lodge as part of the station/line?

In general, if they do tall coasters beyond Silver Bullet's height, I think next time they should build roofs around the footers, so as to blend into the pre-exisitng structures.

As far as to what's next, I would imagine that it is a coaster. As Disney rolls out the big guns in 2011-2012, Knott's could counter program with a giant coaster. Imo, It wouldn't be wise to even dare to promote a family attraction in so cal over the next 3 years.

Or, the alternative is to expand Soak City, which has a huge amount of space to work with. That is one area where they don't have to worry about DL/DCA.

Part of my personal wish list is:, a.) love to see them take the KOD structure, and turn it into a Sally dark ride interactive shooter, b.) relocate Perilous Plunge over to Soak City, replaced by "Atlantis Adventure" from Lotte World, style ride c.) and adapt a large full circuit coaster for the park.

Not going to happen. Knotts uses that parking lot for the people that come to the shopping district.

Heres what I would do.

Use the KOD building for the station and have the lift in the park and most of the ride in backstage and parking lots.

I have not been to Knotts in a very long time (I live in Virginia), so if that is what you think, I will take your word. If that is the case, I say they need something from B&M to really make their coaster fleet world class.

Is this the post to which you refer? If so, yes I managed to read all of it. Still, I'm confused as to which part of it makes my response any less relevant.

Knott's now has 3 launch coasters; one of which is already a shuttle... I don't think they will get another one.

I want them to skip on a coaster for a season, and put a good dark ride into the park. It doesn't have to be where KoD is, I don't care where it goes. But they really need nice dark ride for the park again.

I do like this whole plan though too.

Me too. I think they should take out the White Water Wilderness area. That section makes me depressed for some reason.

I thought it was the nicest section of the park untill Pony Express. Knotts already ruined it so now I dont evern care anymore.

^I agree, Pony Express is such a waste...I'd have rather seen Knott's save the money for something better. A different family coaster, a dark ride, family rides, a flat ride, or something big in a few years, I think it would be more worth the money than Pony Express.

Yup. Pony Express...it's not worth Knott's building it and us riding it for two reasons:

1. It is SUPER short. About 30 seconds I think. (XLR8R is short too, but at least it is thrilling)

2. It's just not fun. No airtime, no G's hardly at all. And the brake section is horribly painful with the restraint pushing on your back so hard.

Knott's definitely should have saved their money for something bigger, better, and less painful!

The bigger question is how popular is Pony Express. I figured out a long time ago that what we here enjoy in a coaster does not always go hand in hand with what is working for the park. If Knott's was going for a good family coaster then Pony Express may have been a hit.

As far as their next coaster it would be great to see a hyper, however I don't really think there is the necessary room to fit a hyper coaster in without taking something else out. I would hate to see the park haphazardly throw a hyper in there ala Silver Bullet. My guess is that the next coaster is going to be something much smaller, that can actually fit in the park without requiring them to bulldoze half the park.

^ Here's what Robb said about "room" for any future coaster at Knott's...

It might be years before we see another large edition to the park. I mean, Silver Bullet barely fits in there as is.

The park has plenty of room for another BIG attraction or two if they wanted to add one.

Just look at parks like Grona Lund or Blackpool if you need an example of places that have no room but yet still seem to add big attractions.

We all had this exact same discussion prior to Silver Bullet's being added. They made the room for a giant B&M invert, I'm sure they can find the room for something else.

--Robb

I don't think Knott's has to sacrifice any of their rides for any new attractions that might come. They got the room, they'll make it work when the time comes...

I want KBF to get a hyper, probably not going to happen, but maybe if its something twisty like Raging Bull, but of course I want 5 airtime hills I want our California Airtime Curse OVER!

EDIT: KBF has a lot of room actually. SFMM has showed us that with Scream

Pony Express was a great idea as far as the theming being a good fit, the ride concept, and the family-friendly aspect, but the ride (albeit well executed in the allotted space) is just painfully short and uneventful IMHO; just as it gets interesting you hit the brakes.

There are ways they can get a hyper coaster or another "big" coaster without bulldozing all of the nostalgic stuff that gives KBF it's own unique charm. I'd love to see them get a B&M Hyper but to do that they would likely have to either annex some of the backstage or go over a lot of things to do it. I'm certain they would find a way, I remember when the question was posed to management at the last Solace if they could get anything as far as a new attraction what would they want and the answer was a Mega Coaster. They could also go "up" instead of over, and fit something in like one of the Ball Coasters or the El Loco coasters. But I really think their next big ride will end up being one of the Hypers similar to Diamondback, etc-probably not for a few years, though.

I need to get out to KBF again soon; have not been since they opened the new steakhouse and the Ride Warriors store. Going to renew my pass in a few weeks so looking forward to checking out both.

If you are going to comment on what coaster a park should build next, and you haven't been in a long time, may I suggest you look at RCDB.com before you do so? You will not find me on a KD thread suggesting a floorless B&M...like, say the Dominator. OMG I have never been to KD, how did I know you had one??

I though an El Loco would have been a great replacement when rumors started spreading about Perilous Plunge leaving. Now that you mention a Ball coaster, I like that idea a lot more! Expecially if it has a more interesting layout like Tele2 Insane, the other two look very short and boring.

^I hear Silver Star is forceless...of course I will never have the money to get out there and ride it so I have no real opinion.

Although with Intamin's new "Less Supports" track style, they'd seem like a more formidable choice for Knott's
