Photo TR: Frontier City 2013

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow TPR members, it's been many many months since I have posted anything on the forum. I've been busy with training for my Air Force career and haven't really had time to browse or post.

After taking some leave to Denver, I decided to get a little nostalgic and visit Frontier City. The last time I was here was in 1999 when I was 7 years old.

Diamondback, I actually never rode this back then, I was still afraid of riding roller coasters with loops.

Moving on to Mindbender, which was not here way back. Prairie Schooner swinging ship was not working today.

Moving on to the Silver Bullet, again this was my first time riding since I was afraid back when I was 7. Also the track back then was painted teal/aqua with red support beams.

In '99 this was my favorite ride. It was a little busy but I just had to ride again!

While in line for Wildcat, you can look up and read some historical information and fun facts about rollercoasters. Though some may be a little outdated.

In Chadster's 2012 report, it was said by August 2012 these towers would be gone. However they still stand.

This ride, now closed, in 1999 was called Terrible Twister, a Chance Rotor ride that spun while you stood against the wall, then the floor would drop but you would stay in place. I miss this ride.

Wild Kitty, rare credit? I like how much red paint is caked on the track

Part of their summer concert series, Theory of a Deadman is playing tonight. Sound check going on in this photo.

I personally cannot leave a park without getting some Dip N Dots, I just love em so much!

Good to see some crowds in the park again. I haven't visited in a couple of years, but the place used to be empty most of the time, even on summer weekends. The new owners are still doing a great job keeping the park sustainable with the concert series and general improvements.

I thought ErUPtion had been taken down already. Shows how much attention I'm paying when I drive past there. I had heard that the Wild Kitty had been replaced as well, but it looks the same. Maybe they replaced it with a very similar kiddie coaster. At the very least it was recently refurbished.

I can confirm that Wild Kitty was replaced with the one that was formerly at Elitch, an identical model.

Ahh, Frontier Shitty, I mean City. Such a dump of a park, at least that's how I remember it the few times I visited. I do have fond nightmares of riding Nightmare Mine when I visited as a kid and legitimately questioning its safety. Something about the ample amounts of rust and ride ops struggling to push the cars through the station. Diamond Back was also fairly scary but mainly because it was a loud, clunky, launched Arrow.

And what the hell is that picture they have next to Texas Giant in Wildcat's queue? I'm assuming it's some kind of weird, stylized drawing because the real Giant looked nothing like that.

IIRC that was a schematic drawing of what Texas Giant would have been if Bill Cobb would have designed the ride. He passed away and Curtis Summers took over and used it to create the Texas Giant that was eventually built.

As of late I've taken an interest in the smaller parks and Frontier City is one of them that intrigues me. Thanks for posting the photos.
