Acting, or Theater??

Recommended Posts

I do theater at my school, and I'm thinking about acting after I graduate HS, or maybe even this year ( for a TV show). I'm in school's spring musical and got one of the lead rolls, we're doing Guys & Dolls. Have any of you guys done anything with theater?, have you ever been in a show or play?, even as an ensemble/background character?

I'm a working professional stage actor living in the south east. I love it! I've done it since I was a child.

I'm in the middle of a productions of Noises Off at the moment and start rehearsals for the musical Next to Normal next week.

I was in drama club all four years of high school. I was Chip the Teacup in Beauty and the Beast, Smee in Peter Pan, Max Detweiler in The Sound of Music, Rooster in Annie, and the lead role in Father of the Bride (also, a couple minor roles in other productions prior). I've been looking for local theater groups, but I cannot find an immediate one that isn't for professionals or theater majors, not that I'd have time to participate as much as I did in high school. So yeah, if you're currently in a troupe or club and enjoying it, live it up.

I've done lots of theatre!

I acted in several shows at my high school all 4 years, and I'm a theatre minor at my college. I've acted and done tech work for our university productions. Lighting and audio are my forte's on the tech end of things. I have even played percussion for a couple of shows (been a drummer since I was in middle school), and I'm about to play drums for a community theatre's production of Sweet Charity.

Acting is great, but it is physically and emotionally exhausting, so I've been on an acting hiatus for about a year. I may hit the stage again when my school does Les Mis next fall. It is one of the most overdone musicals, but I don't care. The show's amazing!

I think I know which production of 'Charity' you're working on.

I'm excited, we're performing Guys & Dolls in less than a month!!! Our school auditorium just got finished it's renovation on Friday so we have brand new lights, and this summer they're going to put in new floors and chairs so the place will look awesome for future performances. I was talking with our school's theater director, and she says she's planning on possibly doing "It's a wonderful life" for next year's spring musical. I think it'll be a cool play for my final high school performance before I move on to college.

And then... I quit and left Actors Equity, around 1981.

Am not feeling as bad now, as when I decided to stop doing 'it.'

A few regrets, but not a lot.
