gforce1994
I was reading a book about ballparks and it had a picture of the old Exhibition Stadium up in Toronto. The picture in the book showed that the stadium had a large wooden roller coaster right next to it? Was that actually in the ballpark, or just a coaster put up next to a ballpark. boardwalkbullet91507
This COULD be it, I'm not sure. I'm not from Canada, but this could definately be a possibility.  rcdb.com/2068.htm  It was at the Canadian National Expedition
donkeyman18
In the fourth photo on RCDB the supporting in the top right corner matches the supporting on the bottom in the first photo you posted so yes it's a match!

vertigomkie
Found a pov of the ride in its last year of operation. Good ride or bad ride, I couldn't imagine a more desolate place for a coaster, and only open for 18 days per year when the Expo came to town. Are there any other wooden coasters that only operate three weeks a year? Â [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]

Are there any other wooden coasters that only operate three weeks a year? Â There used to be a coaster at the Texas State Fair that I think operated like that. Also, Robb found a coaster (theres a POV) somewhere that was at a park only open to the public like 3 days a year.
vertigomkie
^Isn't Stricker's Grove still open for private functions throughout the year, unlike this ride (which simply sit's dormant during most of the hot summer)?

Owl_Enthusiast
Puyallup Fair in Washington has a wooden coaster there year round. It only operates a couple weeks a year similar to the CNE. Â http://rcdb.com/257.htm

GayCoasterGuy
The CNE Flyer! Sadly, I never got to ride it - but I heard all the great stories from many who have! The trains were 4 cars of 4 benchers! Long trains, especially for a smaller ride. Supposedly had some great, wicked moments.

Carnage
I rode it when I was pretty young, though I don't really remember much about it. Â As far as I know it only opened during the CNE. I remember going to Jays games and seeing it sitting there dormant.
gforce1994
What was dormant - the coaster or the Blue Jays? Sorry, but I am a Yankees fan.
Nrthwnd
As far as I know it only opened during the CNE. Â This reminds me of the roller coaster only open during the Puyallup Fair, north of Seattle. Which is in September, every year. Â Which makes me ask, are there other coasters that are (or were) in this kind of situation - only open during a fair, etc? Â Just curious. Nrthwnd
^ It's my mistake, I meant to be more specific. Â The coasters in Toronto, and Puyallup are/were there all year, every year and open ONLY during their respective fairs. Â I think it's more wooden coasters that I was wondering about, those that can't be portable like (most) steel ones can for fairs and carnivals. Â Sorry, for not clarifying. There was one side friction one in Belgium that closed in 2003. Besides that I can not think of any.
azza29
Are there any other wooden coasters that only operate three weeks a year? Â There used to be a woodie (the "Mad Mouse") at the Melbourne Showgrounds, only open for the two weeks of the Melbourne Show each year. Had two-person cars and from memory was quite a wild ride. It was removed in 2003, but the Wild Mouse at Sydney's Luna Park is the same layout (not sure about the cars).
gforce1994
I think the ticklers were originally for fairground usage.
GayCoasterGuy
Airtime or lateral g's? Â From what I heard of Flyer, it had Coney Island Cyclone-like curves and the bunny hops gave great air. People who rode it also noted the awkwardly long train length; it gave a push/pull feel on the curves but delivered great forces at the same time. The ride was short and all the curves were in the same direction Edited January 7, 2013 by GayCoasterGuy
gforce1994
So it was "NASCAR Curves: The Ride"?
GayCoasterGuy
^That could have been a cool retro-like theme if the coaster was still around. By retro-like I'm thinking of the old woodies that used to be called stuff like Sky Rocket and Space Rocket.
