thrillrider
I was able to take another offseason tour of the park this past weekend. Gatekeeper is right on schedule, and work is now starting on the front gate area. The old group sales building, will now be season pass sales. This will double the size of the season pass center. The shots were not the greatest this time around due to the heavy fog in the area. They were also doing work on windseeker while we were there. Enjoy......... Welcome to cedarpoint!!! Blue streak is sporting a lot of new wood on its first drop. It was a very foggy day. See From the midway, you could hardly see gatekeeper. The merry go round was shrink wrapped. It even had a little door built into it. The front gate area is going thru a total rebuild. This whole area is going to look great when its done. A look at the season pass area. This will be the turn around area for gatekeeper. This is the area between blue streak and the season pass center. Ride parts awaiting there annual refurb. These were parts from the super himalaya and the kiddie teacup ride. Ocean motion A grave left over from halloweekends. Getting closer to gatekeeper(I think) They brought out the heavy machines for gatekeeper construction. Am I the only one who thinks this is funny? And now, onto some gatekeeper pics. Random parts waiting to be put together. It was so foggy, you could hardly see the flag at the top of the lift. Artsy..... Work basket. This whole area is going to look great in the spring. The food stands are also getting some work. On my way to the beach, I took a few shots of the midway. Maxair is shrink wrapped. Snoopy and us. Troika A naked giant wheel. The construction cam. This is the kiddie bumper car building. A few random halloweekends props Windsleeper in the fog. Windsleeper all wrapped up for the season. So much fog, you cant even see magnum. It must have sunk. Random busch light beer can. More fog Even in the fog, work continued on gatekeeper. Workers getting ready to raise a support. Too much fog to get any good shots. Parasail lose? The park maps still show disaster transport and space spiral. Planet snoopy car ride They killed snoopy by suffercation!!! Supports for the roof. Matterhorn pieces A look down the main midway. Can anybody guess whats missing from this food stand? Cad cars. The plants still had flowers on them. There was also some work going into cedar downs. The main midway arcade was all sealed up. The bird of prey will have to wait till may. Kids rides were wrapped up as well. All the bathrooms are winterized. Dancing fountains. A few more shots of the midway on the way out. Looks like a geauga lake flower bed. Is she tall enough? Raptor train. No lift hill motor. One last shot of the marina pool. If you look hard enough, you can see tires in the water. John_RN
Great pictures!! I don't know what it is but I just love looking at pictures of deserted (off season) and/or abandoned themeparks. Add in the creepy fog....awesome!!
coasterfreak101
That first view from the midway of Gatekeeper (above the shops) gets me super excited for this thing, even with all the fog you can just tell it's gonna look absolutely amazing from everywhere! Geauga Dog
Great photos despite the thick fog. Thank you for sharing them. Really like the shot of Gatekeeper's lift rising behind Pink's and Lotsapalooza as that's going to be quite photogenic when you enter the park. I really enjoyed X Flight this year and the twist and dive first drop was one of the highlights of the ride IMO and I'm looking forward to experiencing that sensation at 170 feet in the air. Come to think of it a ride on Gatekeeper enveloped in that kind of fog would be incredible.
Musketeer
Coming from an area where the theme parks operate pretty much year round, it is really interesting to see a park like this! Having everything get refurbished is really nice! Awesome pictures despite the fog!
CpBluestreakCp
Gatekeeper looming over Pink's really shows its size. Great report and pictures, love seeing these off-season pictures of parks.
thrillrider
Thanks for all the replys. I typically do at least one offseason tour each year. The only part of the park that I have not toured is the back of the park. If there is something you want to see a picture of, just let me know. Chances are, that I have an offseason picture of it. G$ Kurt
Haha! that picture of the warning sign at the spiral gate is hilarious! I'm glad somebody noticed. I always found it funny and for the longest time that was my phone background.

Philrad71
Thanks for posting David...always enjoy your off-season tours of the park! Those food stands they are refurbishing near Gatekeeper will obviously see business in that area like it has never seen before. When we were there last year, the only excitement over in that area was some guy complaining to one of the girls at the window how he used to "work at Cedar Point for six years and how he deserved to have his Snake RIver Falls souvenir soda cup filled for free". It was pretty comical to watch him going off by telling them that they probably didn't even remember what was in the area before Snake River Falls and how the park owed him for his years of service by allowing free sodas with his old school cup. I believe that he walked away from the stand and then walked back three or four times in an attempt to get his cup filled....spewing vulgarities & nonsense the entire time. It was pretty obvious that he had skipped his Xanax that day....or had hit the crack pipe a little too hard before entering the park.
cfc
Can anybody guess whats missing from this food stand? My guess is going to be . . . food. Thanks for the off-season look. Edited December 13, 2012 by cfc
codman518
Can anybody guess whats missing from this food stand? My guess is going to be . . . food. Actually I believe that the Pepsi soda fountain is missing. All Cedar fair parks are switching to Coca Cola...Finally! Also it is pretty cool to see how the park protect the rides from the weather during the off season.

WildStangAlex
Words cannot express how excited I am to see the brand new entrance plaza and that amazing new B&M Flyer. What a difference this will make to the entire park. Very exciting pictures, thank you so much for sharing!
Randomman295
I really cannot explain to you how unbearably creepy this looks with that much fog. It's like the park turned into the Silent Hill of Cedar Fair. I for one would actually like to see a game like that...
thrillrider
Not only will the entrance plaza look great, but there are several other notable upgrades being made as well.
TyRush
^^Umm Gatekeeper is a B&M Wing Rider. Not a flyer. Anyway, this update looks cool. Very creepy with the fog but it is awsome.
