The "Pleasant/Unpleasant Surprise" Thread

Recommended Posts

Wild Eagle was a pretty big letdown UNTIL I went back to the park this past June and tried it out in the back seat. And man, I liked it a lot more there. Much more forceful.

With all wing riders (I've ridden all 3) you have to ride the back for intensity. If you want the experience, go in the front.

Wild Eagle is the worst wind rider I've ridden because it doesn't have to wing over drop which is the only way it's a good ride.

My biggest letdown so far has to be The Beast. I like the idea of the ride, but the trims really killed the experience for me. I also felt that there are too many straight sections that could have air time hills that don't, particularly in the back part of the ride going into the second lift and the return into the station. I just feel that if The Beast was made today, it would be really poorly received. Granted I rode The Beast a day after I rode The Voyage, another terrain woodie, which showed me what The Beast could be if it was made today. I did like the double helix after the second lift, but that was about it, and yes I did ride it at night as well. It was better, but my opinion largely remained the same.

For me it was Bizarro aka Superman at SFNE. Maybe it was because it was pretty cold when I rode it opening weekend 2013, but the ride did nothing for me. Stapled into my seat, each negative G was painful, and I literally could not wait for it to be over.

Perhaps riding it in the middle of summer on a warm day may change my mind, but I left very disappointed after all the hype and #1 ratings.

Superman: Escape from Krypton was easily the biggest disappointment I've come across. I was so unbelievably excited to finally ride it, and backwards no less! But...the boring and forceless launch combined with a feeling of "meh" going up the spike left me really sad.

It's sad too because I really wanted to like it.

Cheetah Hunt. I had heard that Cheetah Hunt was like California Screamin on steroids, but I thought that it failed even to reach that standard. I believe that CS is far more intense with more airtime and better pacing than Cheetah Hunt. Although CH had a better first half, the second half was completely forgettable, and nothing interesting, aside from one floater hill, happened in this stretch.

Apollo's Chariot. It could have been where I was sitting (in the middle), but I didn't really find airtime or intensity. Intimidator and SFOG's Goliath are better IMO.

I personally think it was definitely where you were sitting, try it again in the back and I think it might change your opinion a little.

That might be California Sleepin' back to when I didn't know much about coasters. Having heard about how it made people heart attack, I was expecting the most intense coaster ever but turned out it really felt like a faster Space Mountain.

Millennium Force is another one, I was aware of it being forceless but I didn't know it was that forceless. Our ERT was at late night and I felt sleepy during the ride for the last couple of laps.

Bizarro (not a top-2 coaster IMHO)

Skyrush (ouch)

Intimidator (expected something Dale Earnhardt-themed to be a bit more intense; i305 fit that bill)

Voyage (also ouch)

Gatekeeper (rattle rattle)

Kumba (not even in the top 3 in its park, much less best ever)

Raptor (Montu & Afterburn are much better and don't have cobra rolls)

Kingda Ka (only passable in the front row; TTD is much better all around)

El Toro (too distracted by the stapling to enjoy it)

Agreed. I still liked CH, but it didn't live up to my expectations. The launch was fun and the S-turns after the MCBR was neat with the theming but other than that the ride was ''ok''. Maybe my expectations were to high.

I feel like I'm the only one who enjoyed Griffon, even though it is a one-trick pony. It actually surpassed my expectations (meaning my expectations are really low). Lol.

Loch Ness Monster was decent, but it was still a bit rough.

(Sorry if it sounds like I'm hating Busch Gardens Williamsburg. I'm not, I actually love the park).

Banshee was a letdown. I rode it around 20 times during the day and at night, temperatures were around 60-70 degrees F. It was a fun ride but not a OMG ride. Two weeks later I took my 4th trip to CP. I rode Raptor and I thought to myself "this is what a forceful invert feels like."

I actually liked Griffon as well. As for the rest of BGW, not to get off subject, love the place. Wish I could get down there and ride Verbolten. Just think of what could have been if B&M could have put in a Kumba like ride where Drachen Fire was, like what was planned.

As for my letdown, it probably has to be Maverick. Just did not live up to all the hype...cool ride though. Wish B&M would step out of the box and try something like that.

I thought that the beast and magnum were both probably my biggest letdowns. Magnum just felt rough and old and the airtime was trying it best the whole time on the way back to break my thighs and the beast just kind of wandered around for about four minutes until it remembered it had to go back to the station.

Millennium Force -- Seriously... it bores me. . . Sure the drop is good, but for me that is the only part I enjoy. I have NEVER got any airtime on any of the airtime hills... Maybe its just me, but it was a huge let down.
