cymonster-rex
Is this 'land' replacing an older themed area or a new space? I'm not to sure as they are saying its the third land for the dreamworks experience so i think it may be a mini land
Wes
Aw cute, Australia just now is learning about Kung Fu Panda.
australianalex
Is this 'land' replacing an older themed area or a new space? It's replacing part of the old Nickelodeon land. The rest of the Nickelodeon land has been themed to Shrek and Madagascar, and this is the final stage. I'm quite happy about this. Zamperla Air Races look pretty fun, and this looks like it will be yet another great flat ride for Dreamworld's lineup.

azza29
This has been such a great year for Gold Coast parks - in the space of 18 months we've had: Constrictor, Justice League, Arkham Asylum, Green Lantern, Ice Age 4D, SeaWorld's new coaster, Buzzsaw, plus all of the work Dreamworld have put in with not just re-theming to Dreamworks but actually adding new rides! Considering there are only 4 parks up there this is a fantastic set of additions. I remember visiting in 2010 and thinking how tired it was all looking, then going back earlier this year and being pleasantly surprised at all the new hotness! I know Aussies tend to whinge about the relative lack of coasters down here, but at the moment we have it pretty good.
australianalex
Plus Luna Park Melbourne have posted pictures of them demolishing their Galaxi coaster with a supposedly big announcement coming next week. I love how, after a drought of no new rides for over 5 years, theme parks in Australia have suddenly exploded in the last couple of years with tons of new additions - right after TPR did their trip. I think when Robb re-visits the Australian parks whenever TPR do their next Australia trip he'll be surprised at how much the parks have changed. jedimaster1227
http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/2012/12/07/443234_gold-coast-news.html Dreamworld will launch a new big thrill ride and a Kung Fu Panda-themed land before Christmas in the latest battle between the Gold Coast's five theme parks. The Coomera-based theme park will open its third DreamWorks Animation precinct -- Kung Fu Panda: Land of Awesomeness -- featuring the latest thrill ride Pandamonium along with a new Big Red Boat ride in Wiggle's World. It will cap off a massive 18 months of multimillion-dollar investment by park owner Ardent Leisure, which has stepped up the competition against Village Roadshow -- the owner of Movie World, Sea World and Wet 'n' Wild. Dreamworld marketing and sales general manager Kathryn Valk said the 31-year-old theme park had undergone a major facelift in the past year and a half which included opening three huge rides, revitalising the main street, adding new shows, becoming home to the Big Brother house again and partnering with DreamWorks Animation to build three film-inspired lands. "We are proud of our heritage, we are part of Australia's DNA as the country's biggest theme park," she said. "But we are always looking for something new and to embrace everything that is really unique to Dreamworld. "We have a focus to keep revitalising and refreshing to remain relevant." The Kung Fu Panda land will join the already opened Madagascar Madness and Shreks Faire Faire Away lands in the new DreamWorks Experience precinct. The new land will be themed around an ancient Chinese village and will be home to the Skadoosh bumper cars, Kung Fu Academy and the brand new Pandamonium thrill ride. The new ride offers two speeds, allowing those after a calmer ride to be spun around and swung side to side in a Rickshaw car. Thrillseekers who queue in the other line will be strapped in for a crazy 2.5-minute cycle that sends them soaring 8m high, round and round, side to side and upside down at up to 3.8 G-forces. "Who doesn't love a new thrill ride?" said Ms Valk. "We are the home of thrill rides and this is quite a unique ride -- there isn't one of this kind in Australia." She said the new lands had refreshed the park. "It has given us the lift we needed," said Ms Valk. "It is all about entertainment, escapism and magic and to remain true to the films we need to ensure guests are fully immersed in the lands. "I think Kung Fu Panda land is going to be my favourite -- it is truly spectacular." The new land and ride will open on December 21.

6flagsbrad
The detail they put into that is very well done. That ride looks like so much fun.
azza29
Great to see the park putting plenty of effort into the theming - wonder if they'll do anything with the bare concrete? Dreamworld is definitely onto a winner with the Dreamworks licensing - if there's one thing that company knows how to do, it's sequels!
azza29
Parkz have added a fairly extensive photo update on the new area: www.parkz.com.au/update/2012/12/21/#308 They've added a sort of playground themed to a kung fu academy, so I give that about a week before it's closed by their insurance company. But overall the area seems great - the park have even gone to the effort of properly theming the bumper cars rather than just adding a new sign (which is what they would've done 5 years ago). Can't wait to get a ride on that Air Race! However other parts of the park are getting a little worn - broken TVs in the Buzzsaw queue aren't a good look, and the Rivers of Australia is now themed to an algal bloom. Not sure if I'd go out of my way to tour the Big Brother house either, unless they turn it into a haunt.
A.J.
Chose this thread because it's the most recent, we might want to make a discussion thread. Dreamworld has re-opened the Cyclone as the "Hot Wheels Sidewinder" alongside a new area. Source - AusParks So, two things from this - first, I -think- that this is the first time we've seen this kind of new Vekoma train on an Arrow coaster (Rolling X-train got a different kind of train); second, this means that Canyon Blaster is now the only coaster left with the 90s-style Arrow train unless you count Tennessee Tornado. Gutterflower
The new trains should help a lot. It wasnt the smoothest ride in the world. Good to see some investment going in. With Movie World planning on adding a new Mack coaster this year and a new hotel the parks seem to be upping there game a bit with the impending arrival of a new Wanda Park on the Gold Coast
azza29
Those new trains have onboard audio as well, I have not had the chance to ride yet but hear they are a significant improvement on what was there previously. The old Cyclone queue was looking very tired/dilapidated so it's great to see that part of the park get some love. Dreamworld on the whole is looking far better than it did 3-4 years ago, a number of rundown areas have been updated and refreshed, something the park really needed after being somewhat neglected by the previous management. Hopefully a big new attraction isn't too far off now that they've spent a few years making smaller improvements.
Garet
So, two things from this - first, I -think- that this is the first time we've seen this kind of new Vekoma train on an Arrow coaster (Rolling X-train got a different kind of train) Since I've accepted that X-Train will probably be around for the foreseeable future, please let them upgrade to this train soon, most new things in the park for the last 4-5 years has been updates to existing rides or replacing old rides with newer versions along the same lines... jedimaster1227
I'm glad to see this Arrow got the proper treatment with a new Vekoma train (that really looks nice, by the way) rather than the park being cheap and going with a KumbaK train. The coaster has a much better chance of lasting with the Vekoma train than it ever would have with a KumbaK train ripping apart the track.
