Hurricane Sandy vs. Roller Coasters

Recommended Posts

I've seen how often coaster enthusiasts complain and talk about tearing down perfectly good and even excellent rides so I really can't trust in the view that the world is better without Star Jet. Look at some of the coasters people say they wish went down just in this thread. Plus it was an oceanside coaster, it doesn't have to be an Intimidator to be an enjoyable ride. It was a small coaster and I never rode it so have no fond memories of it, so I'm not upset, but you get the idea.

WTF? You never rode it and you're telling me I'm wrong about the ride? I can't take you seriously at all.

So, no... I don't get the idea you're talking about. The ride was awful. The world is better without it. You can disagree with us all you want. And maybe if you'd ACTUALLY RIDDEN IT you'd know what I mean, but I'm glad it's gone.

Ok, I just watched that video...and yeah, ok, sure, they got some damage...but really all I saw was some trees down, fences down, couple of small facilities knocked out (like was that an ice machine they showed?), and a bit of flooding.

Yeah, that sucks. I get it.... but it didn't look ANYTHING like these pictures from Knoebel's last year...

Remember these pics? And wasn't Knoebel's opened again like two weeks later or something?

Look, I really want to feel sorry for some of these places reporting in "damage", but when I see a video on the news, and it's fences and trees down, I just don't think it's THAT huge of a deal, especially when we've seen far more devastating destruction other places or in other storms.

^^ I always found it amazing how Knoebels rebuilds so quickly after the huge floods they get. Anyways the piers on the Jersey Shore are ALOT worse then Rye Playland (Casino Pier is completely GONE) I don't really see how it could be millions in damage there (maybe a million judging by the video but not too much more then that). In Albany they WAY over dramatised the amount of force Sandy would have up here (I don't think the winds even reached 60mph) and we got little rain. I do feel sorry for those who do live down in the city as they pretty much lost everything.

Wow, really? You're actually honestly glad it's gone? Nobody was forcing you to ever ride it again, and some people DID like it, but you're happy it was one of many things destroyed in a devastating storm?

The loss of a ride is minor in the grand scheme of things, especially with the loss of life, but being GLAD is just...wow.

^You came on the site just to bitch at Robb about this coaster?

You're a very different demographic than most of this site. ACE people love crap like this and support all parks and coasters, even when they're terrible.

Go back to complaining about Robb privately please!

If it was a rough ride that most people generally didn't like, and mother nature took care of it then people are going to be happy. Usually, that means something better can come out of it.

Let's be glad this thing is gone instead all of New England.

^Totally. This thread is just going to bring out a lot of the real crazy die hard coaster enthusiasts similar to the Big Dipper / Geauga Lake thread. It's good, helps us weed them out!

You didn't give two sh1ts about this ride yesterday, and now that its gone you're acting like the worlds #1 steel coaster has been tragically destroyed.

Like Elissa said, your ACE mentality doesn't belong here, so why don't you find a better place to take it.

Thanks.

Still holding out hope that this hurricane somehow damaged Ninja at SFOG.

Apparently it also destroyed a terrible looper down the street. We went and rode all that crap back in 2010 (I think it was part of Derek and Piers' master plan to find the Jersey Shore house and people). As long as the pizza didn't get destroyed, I'm fine!

I'm not saying you're wrong, I saying I've seen too much criticism by enthusiasts that I do consider wrong to not be skeptical. Obviously, I won't be finding out in this case.

And I see there's been another anti-Boomerang/SLC post just as I was writing this. Not the best rides in the absolute sense, but very ambitious and more than adequate along the seaside... and no way would they be replaced by B&Ms in those locations if this storm had knocked them down!!

You know a large percentage of enthusiasts didn't even know about this coaster(s) until they were destroyed. If they were such great rides, don't you think everyone would have been talking about them BEFORE they were fish food?

Yet we are the 'bad guys' for simply being realistic and calling them out on it...

If I was sad about anything...it's that I'm sure no business wants to have to go through this, and it's a mess to clean up (both physically and financially), and I'd hate to see anyplace that people enjoy visiting go through a hardship. But seriously, is anyone REALLY going to miss those two coaster specifically? They were awful. Really, really awful. And what these "ACE Mentality" people don't get, is that by them being destroyed, is that they have a chance to be replaced by something better. And it's these same idiots who are complaining and giving us crap now, who will be all gung ho when the new replacement ride opens, and will have totally forgotten that just a year or so before, they were giving us shit for saying what we said. Screw you guys. You know we are right. Whether you want to admit it or not. /end rant

I vaguely remember Robb posting the POV of it months back... And the only reason I remember that video at all is because of Robb's, "my virginity just got eaten again" line.

I just want to ask some of the people complaining, where you ever going to ride it anyway?

ACErs are just mad because they don't have the credits, and cannot now lord over others who didn't have the credits by telling people how "amazing" these rides were and too bad they missed out on it (see: Geauga Lake Big Dipper).

Yeah, these two rides were brutal, some of the worst I've been on in the world. I feel bad for the people that own these attractions, but am hoping they'll replace them with something a lot better.

Instead of stupid people complaining that these rides were destroyed, let's be grateful that:

a) no one EVER has to ride it again

b) no one was either on the rides or at the parks at the time of the collapses.

Agreed?

Never rode either of these coasters, but I fully understand the "good riddance" sentiment. As a Cincinnati resident, I know I have been crying big-ass tears for weeks now that KI is finally taking down Son of Beast.

Was that Wisdom Ride's Pirate Hideaway on Casino Pier Also destroyed? I always found that ride to be pretty wacky.

Until an aerial photo of the pier surfaces, I can only assume it survived. Casino Pier didn't seem to be hit as badly as Funtown (though that is definitely an understatement), and the area the ride is located seems to be standing still. I wonder if whoever flew over the area and took the photo of Funtown's remains took one of Casino Pier too...

There will probably be some warning in Consumer Reports about buying used cars and roller coasters from New Jersey.
