I don't see where the loss is here...

Thank goodness! Fewer people tortured thanks to Hurricane Sandy! SUCCESS!!!!

Biggest frowny face in the world!!! I actually liked this ride and traveled to Seaside Heights two times this past summer just to ride it! The views going up the lift hill and around the first turn were incredible. Nothing but ocean all around you. I will miss Star Jet! May she rest in pieces...

Poor ol' Star Jet!

Looks like Jane's Carousel is fine, thank god. Jane spent 27 years restoring the carousel it would be a shame after only one year operating if it got ruined.

It a shame for Casino Pier and Funtown Pier, regardless of the quality of the rides that have been lost. These are businesses and regardless of how much insurance pays them they will have a lot of work ahead of themselves to open next year and it will come at a cost.

It look like Mighty Mouse might be a loss and that would suck with Adventure City getting rid Treetop Racers that we will be down to only two Miller Mouses remaining.

I have to ask about Star Jet though. Did the ride not age well because when I rode it in it's second year it was really good, intense and smooth.

Wow, some of the comments in this thread are amazing. I wonder if any of the family's who lost their loved ones think losing a coaster was a big deal?

BY the way, I think Prince Desmond will need a boat this time not a pick up!

He can still use a pickup truck, providing he knows the right people. And since he is Prince Desmond, he does.

The title of the thread is "Hurricane Sandy vs. Roller Coasters" so we are talking about roller coasters (and amusement parks). I don't think it really need to be said that everyone is first or foremost thinking about the loss of life (39 people reported so far) that has occurred.

How about you NOT be rude and obnoxious towards one of our moderators if you want to continue posting to our forums?

Thanks...

That wasn't my intent in anyway. I posted my opinion of the damages that have occurred above without mentioning the lost of life that has occurred and I didn't want to sound insensitive to what matters more. I'll tone it down it the future Robb.

It's sad to see any damage to any park/pier/coaster imo. Sure, it's not a particularly large loss to the coaster community, but I'm sure many families made some memories there.

Good to hear the larger parks (Knoebels, SFGAdv, Dorney Park) are fine.

Seen some photos of the devastation around the East Coast, crazy stuff. I have friends in Ridgewood, NJ so I'm nervous about hearing how they are, especially considering their house is surrounded by large trees.

Well Knoebels is fascinated with rebuilding defunct coasters, and the manufacturer of the Star jet is the same company responsible for Kosmo's Kurves... Do I see Knoebels buying spart parts?

I used to work for Knoebles many moons ago, but Dick K and the staff are always scouring defunct parks and rides for possible coaster additions to the park.

Did anyone else find that the funniest line in this forum came from Prince Desmond, "(Sent from my Windows Surface)"?

With the exception of Morey's I'm not sure what else of substantial quality is in the area. Sucks that the other piers lost major parts of their business but as long as the owners themselves and their houses are ok, I think they'll bounce back.

My guess is it will be difficult, if not impossible, for any business that close to the beach to get new insurance coverage for hurricane damage.

I'm more interested in the train damage to the NYC rail network, it's going to be interesting to see how quickly that can be repaired and how expensive it will be.

I've seen how often coaster enthusiasts complain and talk about tearing down perfectly good and even excellent rides so I really can't trust in the view that the world is better without Star Jet. Look at some of the coasters people say they wish went down just in this thread. Plus it was an oceanside coaster, it doesn't have to be an Intimidator to be an enjoyable ride. It was a small coaster and I never rode it so have no fond memories of it, so I'm not upset, but you get the idea.

WTF? You never rode it and you're telling me I'm wrong about the ride? I can't take you seriously at all.

So, no... I don't get the idea you're talking about. The ride was awful. The world is better without it. You can disagree with us all you want. And maybe if you'd ACTUALLY RIDDEN IT you'd know what I mean, but I'm glad it's gone.

Ok, I just watched that video...and yeah, ok, sure, they got some damage...but really all I saw was some trees down, fences down, couple of small facilities knocked out (like was that an ice machine they showed?), and a bit of flooding.

Yeah, that sucks. I get it.... but it didn't look ANYTHING like these pictures from Knoebel's last year...

Remember these pics? And wasn't Knoebel's opened again like two weeks later or something?

Look, I really want to feel sorry for some of these places reporting in "damage", but when I see a video on the news, and it's fences and trees down, I just don't think it's THAT huge of a deal, especially when we've seen far more devastating destruction other places or in other storms.
