Photo TR: Adam geeks out at Star Wars Celebration VI

Recommended Posts

This past weekend I was given the opportunity to represent Theme Park Review at Star Wars Celebration VI, the follow up to Star Wars Celebration V that took place two years ago ( you can see my coverage of that event here ). With my arm obviously twisted into going on this tedious, four day festival of all things Star Wars, I (Jedimaster1227) set off on a quest to explore the realm of the Star Wars fan.

Now please be warned. I get super nerdy from here-on-out... It may get funny at my own expense. In fact, I'm sure it will turn out that way. Just enjoy yourself and we'll get through it together!

Who am I kidding? I begged Robb to let me go back this year! And guess what, I've got credentials! Thanks Robb!

My first stop was the "as you wish." Project booth, sponsored by eFX, the Dented Helmet and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

DSC07881.JPG.f56b0a064feae6b7ba2072100177ca6f.JPG

This Star Wars/Alien mashup helmet was one of several dozen auctioned off for charity at the end of the event.

Rocketeer!

It's official folks. Star Wars CAN be Elissa-friendly!

Coming soon to Men in Black: Alien Attack at Universal Studios Florida!

"If I'm not me, then who am I?"

DSC07910.JPG.a3ecbce1e5791328ee4bb643e6c181e0.JPG

You wouldn't think that this was once a clone trooper helmet.

DSC07913.JPG.41c947de9e671691d883f08f328cdd07.JPG

They had an Admiral Ackbar plush that screams "It's a trap!" when you push his button.

I'm not gonna lie. I bought one.

DSC07922.JPG.c0bd6691228e428ef7a79de3497f06ec.JPG

I was able to see Warwick Davis (Wicket the Ewok, Willow) rolling around the show floor on his Segway several times during the event.

DSC07927.JPG.37b3668c4cc7850d0999eb9a90d82bf4.JPG

Over at the Disney booth, they had some advertisements up for Star Tours: The Adventure Continues. This one gave away a little easter egg hidden by the Imagineers as seen in the Coruscant section of the ride. Notice the "New Tomorrowland" logo on the building next to the Starspeeder 1000. The Aurebesh (alien language) even says Tomorrowland! Trust me, I checked!

DSC07941.JPG.c2db17ed579e3a69c989891da11398f8.JPG

If there's one thing that Star Wars Celebration has gained notoriety for, it is the cosplay.

DSC07943.JPG.1b36ce404e49580aa239866bf11fefe1.JPG

As clever as this one was, I didn't buy it.

DSC07944.JPG.0df1c4e870b8a29d6244c729f9965260.JPG

Hear my Tauntaun roar!

DSC07951.JPG.413d7ed31c3e2bd25899bc4b95950baa.JPG

If you ever have the chance, as Seth Green will tell you, George Lucas can totally justify including Midichlorians in Star Wars if you give him the chance.

Oh, these are just mints.

...Moving on!

DSC07967.JPG.7092cfdbeeee41073439e34189ab747c.JPG

Over in the Disney/Star Wars Merchandise Panel, some new items were shown to the audience.

Hey Renee!

Now you too can be like Bryan!

DSC07979.JPG.8670469cdeb33418b1fac74ad4321d7e.JPG

I have a strange feeling that these will sell well around the holidays.

Same.

Elissa-friendly merchandise in the making!

A future set of Disney/Star Wars toys coming out next year.

And some new characters coming to the Star Wars/Muppets series next year...

This is perfect.

This too is perfect.

Okay, this isn't fair. I can't even put up a fight, it is so awesome!

DSC08018.JPG.c01686dcb4a50f74463d78b2c48aa65e.JPG

Now for something a little different!

DSC08019.JPG.59690479ea89b5da0bd32daf85fff465.JPG

Lucasfilm and Pixar have agreed to allow a new line of Star Wars/Cars mashup merchandising coming out next year.

DSC08021.JPG.f0189d409f230a1e1c79e8db9248508b.JPG

There's some clever detailing in the artwork.

Cone you believe it?

One of my favorite booths was hosted by the Orlando Science Center, which will be hosting a "Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination" panel later this year. Here they froze marshmallows with liquid nitrogen and let you eat them!

DSC08046.JPG.9fb51d9c0a8365b4ef4c56f7e2cbd2a8.JPG

Not only are liquid nitrogen-frozen marshmallows even more delicious, but it lets you blow smoke out of your mouth and nose while you chew!

DSC08050.JPG.2f7f79c749061c6d95e64ac325b9ae61.JPG

I'm buying them ALL!

For the robe-wearing types...

DSC08065.JPG.ae50518366e732302009374b281c8489.JPG

In this world, I can truly be king!

My reign didn't last long. This guy's got better game than I do.

...Whoa.

Time for a semi-normal photo of me at an abnormally dry bar.

So many words to say... I'll just say none of them.

The huge AT-AT was back this year and parked in the center of the Orange County Convention Center.

DSC08104.JPG.c08361f24cbf0aec9940a45df98db131.JPG

While on my way out from Day 1 (notice my bag of merchandise) I ran into Dave Filoni, the Supervising Director of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the television series now heading into its fifth season on Cartoon Network.

On Day 2 (and on each subsequent day of the convention) I revisited the Orlando Science Center's booth to see what else they had cooking with liquid nitrogen!

This time it was liquid nitrogen-boiled whipped cream. And it was amazing!

Many of the costumes were more creative than the normal representation of well known characters from the Star Wars universe.

I was videotaped taking a photograph of the host of a TV show (I think for G4)... If that makes any sense.

No, really. This guy didn't miss a detail.

One of the major panels I was looking forward to was the Super Secret Star Wars Panel, something teased as early as two years ago at the Star Wars Robot Chicken panel at Star Wars Celebration V.

DSC08186.thumb.JPG.967bf448ab23707a6a9f9b510f96911c.JPG

James Arnold Taylor, the voice of Jedi Masters Obi-Wan Kenobi and Plo Koon on Star Wars: The Clone Wars was the MC for the Main Stage, opening for all acts in the Celebration (Chapin) Theater.

DSC08199.thumb.JPG.dd0fd8a97a48188126982c5004bac907.JPG

So why was I so excited? Seth Green had previously announced that he was working with the team from Robot Chicken on a new Star Wars-based comedy series approved by George Lucas for TV... And now was the time to release details on the show, dubbed Star Wars Detours!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yRNXFhboBI

DSC08201.thumb.JPG.3d65e07b673634a3fcc6202b7a0fd03c.JPG

The show is technically in canon according to Seth Green, taking place in between Episodes 3 and 4. It doesn't break the story of any of the characters from the films, but it elaborates on their "daily lives" in a comical sense during this set time period.

DSC08203.thumb.JPG.9eeae210b6e556fb39895dda75b1941f.JPG

The show has three distinct locales for which its story is based. The first is the Death Star, currently under construction but marketed as the universe's largest mall, the Galaxia. The second is Jabba's Palace, and on a larger scale, Tatooine.

DSC08206.thumb.JPG.d642b1a9ef4079b91cb9c9d6e5d56c8a.JPG

The third is Dex's Diner from Episode II: Attack of the Clones.

DSC08213.thumb.JPG.ef2328b15cd4fdf016eb9f56c89bb817.JPG

Donald Faison (a huge Star Wars fan) is in the show along with the voices of Seth Green, Brecken Meyer, Weird Al Yankovic, Billy Dee Williams (the original actor who portrayed Lando Calrissian), Dee Bradley Baker and Ahmed Best (the original voice and body actor for Jar Jar Binks).

Sadly, we missed this years event, although it was pared down from CV, imho. The lack of the Studios night event was a big negative. And I'm sure we would have not made it to the panel where the Maker and Turkleton showed up, and I would have been very mad.

The Star Tots giveaways were quite cool, though.

As for the babes, teh Ewok chick is awesome, but I this the Wampette from CV has her beat. I did see a few voluptuous Slave Leias that were awesome, as usual. And the new LEGO cosplay is quite cool. The best costumes I've seen were the Muppet stormtroopers, Akbar Ghostbuster, with trap, and the winner, R2-Bender.

Okay, so that Alien/Vader mash-up helmet skull thing almost made me lose it. That wins my awesome award for this week, no question. Now to go back and finish reading this report.

EDIT: I'm in no way a real Star Wars geek (really, I'm not), but I did love this report.

So, was that Booba Fett? (Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week)

Chuck, I read the other day they may revive The Rocketeer. I think that in the right hands, the could do a lot of interesting stuff with that property.

dt

It'd definitely be the first Disney film in a while that I'd actually be excited to see. Really hope that idea gets somewhere.

Also, great TR Adam! I've never been much of a huge Star Wars fan, but I've always found its enormous fanbase fascinating.
