jray21
I could see Sacramento working better than Tracy. While the Tracy are is growing a ton, I just see Sacramento as the more convenient choice. Even with how bad the Bay Area traffic is, I'd rather go to Sacramento from the Oakland/San Francisco area, than fight the 680/580 traffic to get to Tracy. larrygator
In the end, the biggest obstacle is that a successful regional amusement park has not opened in the US in 30 years. I'm talking about one being built from the ground up.
jray21
That's a very good point. It would have to start out pretty small unless they got a crap load of money. If it isn't relatively big, I don't see people making to trek all the way out there.
Mark Park
But isn't part of the funding going to come from the casino, rv park and other resort amenities? The problem with Sacramento is that it's already pretty urban and the land is more expensive. They would have a lot more space for the money to work with in Tracy. As for there not being a successful regional park added in 30 years - I think that has to do with the industry. Six Flags /Cedar Point type parks have only so much appeal and that model has dominated. There is still a desire for immersive all-ages theme parks like US and Disney IF done right. The Hard Rock park was doomed from the start because the theme has limited appeal and it wasn't done particuarlly well. And yet it was built in a big tourist area - which seems to support my arguement that the park does not need to be in place people want to go. In fact, you want people to go to your theme park/resort not the town. That's the whole point.

The Arco Areana site might work but then you have the problem with building moratorium (flood basin) and neighbor opposition. There is a plan to build a light rail line connecting that site with the airport and downtown so that would be a plus. But funding is still a problem and I don't see Sacramento ever allowing a full-scale casino in the city limits.

Kentucky Kingdom Legoland California Legoland Florida Universal Orlando Wild Adventures Fiesta Texas Seaworld San Antonio Dollywood to an extent  It can be done if it's done right.  As for price of land, land is pretty abundant and cheap in Sacramento due to the recession halting development... However, they'd have to get in fast, since developers are snatching up anything they can get their hands on due to escalating demand for homes & offices. Kentucky Kingdom Legoland California Legoland Florida Universal Orlando Wild Adventures Fiesta Texas Seaworld San Antonio Dollywood to an extent  I mistakenly used the word regional instead of seasonal, I tend to use the words interchangably. Also, I should have checked my facts before posting. I should have written 20 years, not 30 as Fiesta Texas was the last successful park. Yes, Wild Adventures was also less than 30 years ago.  Kentucky Kingdom - I wouldn't call a closed park successful Legoland California - Not considered regional since it is open year round Legoland Florida - grew out of Cypress Gardens, not from scratch, also not regional Universal Orlando - not regional Sea World Texas - not regional Dollywood - not from the ground up

I too don't see the city of Sacramento allowing a casino within city limits... (especially since North Natomas is a middle/upper class neighborhood), but Sacramento County isn't far from the site and would be a simple light rail ride away. (possibly using their own train to connect.) Â I know the possibility of this development here is slim to none, but it would be an interesting proposal. Â Edit: As for neighbor opposition, from what I understand, North Natomas residents actually like the economic impact the arena brings and don't mind the noise (it leaks out.. especially when the game is sold out) and traffic it brings. azza29
I'm a little confused about who exactly the target market will be. For Sacramento residents it would be about the same distance as SFDK, and for those in the bay area CGA and/or SFDK will probably be easier to get to. So who are they trying to attract? cmullin
I fit has good rides I think it will attract quite a few guests. The Bay Area has a large population and CGA is on the rise, but SFDK has just been getting worse, it's easily worth the extra 30-45 minutes on the road to go to a new and potentially better amusement park.
