Um, watch the video. See that part where they go into a cave? That'd be the cave. Because it's a cave. Or maybe I need to say temple. Enclosed space. That work? And yes, Orlando has had the cave/temple/enclosed space section since forever.

^ Disneyland's version is the one from the World's Fair, just like Haunted Mansion, Small World, etc. They're shorter versions of the ride but they hold historic significance.

 

At least Disneyland has a much longer Pirates!

 

Edit - Chuck edumacateded me. Jungle Cruise wasn't a World's Fair ride but a Disney original from the opening. Probably the same for Haunted Mansion, too. Small World is most definitely World's Fair, though.

^Disneyland's Jungle Cruise wasn't part of the World's Fair. It was one of the park's original attractions. Or am I misunderstanding what you said?

Its a Small World, the omnimover (Haunted Mansion et al), Mr. Lincoln, Primeval

World (DL train) and The "rotating theater" (Carousel of Progress. America Sings)

all came from the New York World's Fairs, 1964-65.

'Frozen' attraction to open at Tokyo Disney Resort

New "Port" added to Tokyo DisneySea

Fantasyland to be expanded to double the size

 

The press releases below are a little vague. Here is what we know so far:

 

- New Frozen ride that will be added to one of the two parks. It's not been announced, but its suggested it may be going to DisneySea in a whole new area with the look at feel of Arendelle. Given Tokyo DisneySea's "water" theme, this might make a lot of sense.

 

- Tomorrowland attractions Autopia & Sky jets will close to make room for New Fantasyland expansion.

 

- There appears to be some sort of Alice in Wonderland attraction or expanded area near the current restaurant.

 

- Small World is to be moved, perhaps in the area currently occupied by Autopia. (I can't imagine them removing this attraction entirely.)

 

- Dumbo will be moved and the new version looks more like the current Walt Disney World version.

 

- There appears to be an emphasis on Little Mermaid, Beauty & The Beast, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty based on the artwork. (Again, nothing has been officially announced.)

 

- The press release mentions "development of hardware that will enhance the Guest experience in the Parks." Could this be something similar to MyMagic+ or FastPass+?

TOKYO -- Oriental Land plans to introduce a large attraction based on the hit film "Frozen" at Tokyo Disney Resort as the main drawing card of a partial renovation of Tokyo Disneyland in 2017.

 

The new attraction will be the centerpiece of capital investment plans through fiscal 2023, which are expected to total 500 billion yen ($4.58 billion). The cost of the Frozen attraction has not yet been worked out, but major attractions such as this have cost 10 billion yen to 20 billion yen in the past.

 

The castle featured in the animated film will be reproduced, and the attraction will likely let visitors experience scenes from the movie.

 

When Tokyo Disneyland's Fantasyland is renovated, the "It's A Small World" attraction is slated to be moved. One leading proposal has the Frozen attraction taking the place of this popular ride. But the new attraction may be set up at Tokyo DisneySea instead.

 

With box-office revenues in excess of 25 billion yen, Frozen is on the heels of "Titanic," the second-highest grossing film ever in Japan.

Oriental Land Co., Ltd. announced that plans for the further development of Tokyo Disneyland® and Tokyo DisneySea® Parks have been decided. The plans, outlined in the Oriental Land Group’s “2016 Medium-Term Business Plan” (for the period of March 2015 through March 2017) announced on April 28, include a 500 billion yen level of investment in the theme park business over the next ten years.

 

The plan for Tokyo Disneyland Park centers on the redevelopment of Fantasyland, which will nearly double the size of the themed land. Work on implementing this large-scale area development has already begun. In addition to the renovation of the existing Fantasyland, major new attractions, restaurants and shops are being considered for installation in the expansion site.

 

Under consideration for Tokyo DisneySea Park is the development of a new themed port in the expansion site located south of Lost River Delta. This eighth themed port will include major new attractions, restaurants and shops.

 

Oriental Land will also further invest in the two Parks in multiple ways: renovation or creation of attractions and entertainment programs; development of hardware that will enhance the Guest experience in the Parks; further improvement of restaurants; easing of congestion; development of measures to protect Guests from hot and cold weather; and other ways of to make a more comfortable environment for all Guests. Furthermore, investment will be made to strengthen the theme parks’ “backstage” support functions and operational base.

 

In addition to the above investment in infrastructure, Oriental Land will continue to raise the level of hospitality provided by Cast Members, which is vital to the Disney theme parks, by strengthening human resources development and raising employee satisfaction to an even higher level.

 

Oriental Land’s aim for the two Disney theme parks is for them to continue to be places where Guests will have unforgettable experiences that are unlike anywhere else in the world. Oriental Land will strive to make this a reality through the above investments to maximize the value of the theme parks.

 

1. Amount of Theme Park Business Investment

The breakdown of the 500 billion* yen level of investment in the theme park business over the next ten years ( fiscal year** 2014 through fiscal year 2023 ) is projected as follows.

 

2. Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea Development Plans

Centering on the redevelopment of Fantasyland at Tokyo Disneyland and the development of a new themed port at Tokyo DisneySea, as well as the introduction of new attractions and other facilities, Oriental Land’s investment will aim at maximizing the value of the theme parks. Moreover, the amount of the additional investment for the Fantasyland redevelopment is expected to be the largest ever for Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea.

 

◆ Preparations for creating comfortable environments at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea Parks

 

By further enhancement of restaurants, easing of congestion, introduction of measures to protect Guests from hot and cold weather and other actions, Oriental Land will proactively create environments that Guests can enjoy in comfort.

 

Concrete Examples:

• Restructure the show viewing area

• Enhance restaurants further

• Make service facilities more comfortable

• Restructure the IT environment

 

Under consideration for Tokyo Disneyland is the introduction of a restaurant situated on the parade route so that Guests can leisurely enjoy dining while watching a parade.

 

A moveable stage will be installed in Mediterranean Harbor at Tokyo DisneySea to increase visibility of shows and the areas from which shows can be viewed will be expanded. (Start of utilization scheduled for March 1, 2015)

 

◆ Strengthening the base for operations including support functions

 

In order to handle the highest level of Park attendance and provide the best Guest service, business-use land, including the land for the theme parks, will be created in the backstage area (the operations base for the theme parks) by enlarging support facilities and moving some facilities.

 

Concrete Examples:

• Move and enlarge the Logistics Center and Central Kitchen to company-owned property nearby

• Move part of the administration functions to company-owned property nearby

 

The contents of this release are still at the planning stage. Details for each subject will be announced as soon as they are decided.

More like the removal of Tomorrowland Speedway since it's more a clone of that than, say, Disneyland's Autopia. MK would be wise to ditch that too as pointless as it is. But yeah, happy trails Grand American Raceway, Starcade, Tomorrowland Terrace, and the StarJets by the looks of it.

 

So now that Tokyo has announced a "New Fantasyland" of sorts, it'll be interesting to see how MK's measures up as a sort of similar project. MK's New Fantasyland looked almost Tokyo-level amazing. Now we'll get a more direct comparison. Also, looks like we already know where the bigger, better Frozen attraction that the USA parks didn't get is going to go.

Orlando gets an exciting new attraction and Tokyo has to immediately go and trump it, I'm sure their version of the Frozen ride will be spectacular.

 

This whole project is pretty exciting, but now I have to wait a decade to visit the resort! Oh well I'm sure it will be worth it.

The area for the DisneySea expansion is a perfect place for a new "Port of Call". I'm very excited to see what they will do here.

 

I did think Fantasyland at Disneyland looked rather retro and tired when I visited last year and am glad to hear of a total revamp. It's bound to be fantastic!

 

Very surprised they are "moving" Small World. If that's what they need to do to construct their expansion/revamp plans then go for it!
