thrillrider
Well, I was able to take another tour of cedarpoint in the winter time today. There are lots of new things at the park this year. A few new things are... 1. A new light show that is going to light up the entire park. Part of the show requires that power tower, m force, and giant wheel get all new lights, as they will be part of the show. There will also be a stage built where iron dragons line is right now. Iron dragons line will be re-located. I will post a video of the presentation about the show in a bit. This show sounds amazing. There will be dancers, dj's, performers, and several cirque ole(sp) performers. Another part of the show requires that lights be built into the ground in several areas of the park. The giant screen and control booth are being removed. The show will last 45 min, and be very high energy. The main show area is on the iron dragon midway, but the light show will span the entire main midway and games area. 2. Fast pass. They will have wrist bands for sale at several locations in the park. You will also be able to buy them online. The price will be around $50 for 18 rides. 3.New food options. 4.Mean streak retracking will continue. 5.New slides at soak city. 6. New electronic lockers will replace the old. 7. Preferred parking. 8 Ada improvements in several areas of the park. Welcome to cedarpoint!!! Digital sign is wrapped up for the winter. Plenty of parking spots today. Blue streak waiting for spring. Not for me today. Looks like it's still halloweekends time. Employee housing all boarded up. I see you millennium force. I WANT!!!!...NOW!!!! Ugh..... Still some track work going on. The slides look new with the paint job. I think I will go this way. Poor magnum car sitting there all by itself. All the coaster trains are stored in the hotel parking lot untill they get a referb. Looks like gemini. They really strip the trains down. Kate wants to ride. Maverick. 10 Points to who can guess what coaster this is. Noted... Millennium force Raptor. Not sure what coaster this is. Mavericks wheels New wheels as well... New seat belts as well. Old school. Inside the hotel, there was work going on as well. Kate found snoopy. The hotel has some really cool pictures of the park. Notice white water landing? It was a bit too cool to swim today. Not a very good day to try for a tan eather. A view of the new slide colors and magnum. A look down the boardwalk. Windsleeper all bundled up for the winter. Everything near the beach was boarded up. Stuff...... Planet snoopy rides. No crowds Giant wheel is recieving all new LED lights. No shows at the stadium today. Wicked twister. Looks like she is ready to roll. Even the test seat is shrink wrapped. Maybe not... Clear!!! This is what makes wicked twister go fast. Looking up the spike. Buckets of bolts. New wheels for wicked twister. Giant wheel This will look great all lit up. Hmmm... Maxair Giant wheel cars are stored under the games area. No more haunted house till sept. No cheese on a stick today. Hmm....whats going on at disaster transport? Could it be the 500 foot wooden stand up coaster? Disaster transports tube. There was even a tree growing on it. I see your true colors shinning thru...... Random coaster chain Lets take a look inside the ride building. It was really dark, so the pictures are not the best. Lots of ride parts are stored inside. Dragsters speaker is also inside. Something for iron dragon. Another lift chain. A launch cable for dragster. The track above. When disaster transport has to pee, this is where it comes out. Spare parts. Noted.... Hmmm...anyone remember what ride these come off of? Extra seats. Very dark... Edited March 3, 2012 by thrillrider
thrillrider
More...... Some of the high tech lighting used for the ride. Wicked twister parts. Can anyone guess what this is for? Looking at space spiral from behind the old loading platform. When avalanche run was open, this was where the line used to be. Halloweekend stuff And go carts. Lots more pictures of the park in the winter comming soon.

BigDipper 80
Loving the DT interior shots! I don't think I've ever noticed the one mural of what appears to be a destroyed space ship. And I can't wait to hear more about this new nighttime show! Anything will be better than the old screen.
braztaz
I love those Wicked Twister pictures!
Intimidator305
Thanks so much for sharing these! Very interesting. I'm really loooking forward to this new night show when I go to the park in early June! It should really be spectacular if MF, Power Tower, and Giant Wheel all get LED lighting packages. I hope the Giant Wheel's lighting package is half as good as the new 200' SkyWheel in Myrtle Beach, as I could stare at that all night long! Also, it seems like I'll be taking an extra 50+ bucks with me for the Fast Lane... I still can't believe they are going to charge more for Fast Lane than a ticket to get into the park. thrillrider
Thank you. I will post the video of the presentation for the new show soon. Not sure how it turned out yet, as I was in the back of the room.
TJ27
Nice Pictures! I always love to see what parks look like when they're closed. Now I must wait for opening day.
coasterkyle
Also, it seems like I'll be taking an extra 50+ bucks with me for the Fast Lane... I still can't believe they are going to charge more for Fast Lane than a ticket to get into the park. That's roughly what SFGAM offers on their Flash Pass and that's just the regular one, where you still wait in a virtual line.http://www.sixflags.com/greatAmerica/tickets/flashpass.aspx Fast Lane allows you to skip the line all together. thrillrider
If you buy 5 or more flash passes, the price comes down to $30 each. It was also mentioned that the music for the new show will be high energy songs. A few examples they gave us was LMFAO, and pittbull. The music and show will be family friendly as well. I went to go download the video of the presentation, but the upload page is not working right now. I will post it as soon as it's working again. Lot's more pictures comming soon. coasternut
Great pictures that you shared with us - thanks. I'm really surprised that the Wicked Twister train wasn't wrapped. It's right on the water. Looks like they were working on it, but I'd be worried about it with it's location so close to the water.
Amy Baby
If anyone had noticed all the hay bales along the boardwalk, the gentleman guiding us on the tour told us that they use them to protect the hotel from blowing sand. I thought that was a pretty interesting.
BaMiTsPaT
Thank you for sharing these pictures. It is really extraordinary how much parks do in the offseason including rehabbing trains and taking everything apart. It must be quite the operation to put it all back in time for the start of the season.
Amy Baby
Also I found this really cool. Cedar Point's very own time capsule

OCJ48
Do I spy new paint already coating Millennium's track?? If I remember correctly, they repainted Millennium Force last year.
coasterkyle
They said it could take up to three years to paint the entire coaster
Geauga Dog
Thanks for posting the photos. I think one of the biggest improvements, as minor as it is, was the painting of the Soak City slides. They are going to make a rather bland looking water park much more vibrant. I guess the new mat racing slide hasn't started to go up yet. Looking forward to the rest of your photos. -Edge of Beast-
Those pictures of Disaster Transport made me happy. Too bad it will probably be demolished in the next year or two since there was spray paint on the ground. Maybe it's just for a new queue line? thrillrider
More pictures..... Ice cream anyone? All the gift shops had everything wrapped up. The cow was wrapped up as well. More giant wheel cabins. One of my favorate rides in the park. Only thing we are missing here , are the zombies. The midway carousel was all wrapped up. So was raptors test seat. The snow was starting to really come down. Let's take a walk in raptors restricted areas. Not shure what they were doing here. Twisted mess of track The helix Looks like most of the trains are ready to go. Looking up into the first drop. Soda anyone? Btw...they said that they are going back to the original fries at the happy frier stands. Fountain and kiddie land. Blue streak midway. Parts for calypso. Lets look at a few more pictures of raptor. Bottom of the cobra roll. Strobe lights. Do they even use these anymore? Backside of the cobra roll. See you in a few months blue streak. Cedar downs horses were protected from the weather. Turnpike cars looked empty. Turnpike cars, takes up a lot of room. I remember riding it when I was a kid. The old time cars are right next to the turnpike cars. This is where they fuel up the old time cars. This is going to be one expensive ride to run this summer. The bridge. The empty station Behind the station is where they do all the maintannance on the cars. The arcade looks all sealed up. Random park signs. Looking down the main midway. All wrapped up. The bumper car building is converted into a work shop. This whole area is going to look differant this summer. There were a lot of holes on the midway. This is going away as well. Take a look at this, because it's going away. Whats going on at iron dragon? This is where the stage for the new night time show is going to be. thrillrider
More... The line is being moved near the exit of the ride. By moving the line, that makes lot's of room for the stage. There where markings all over the place. This is the dragons lair. It's also where they work on the trains for the ride. They are salvaging the sign. The climax of the ride. A closer look. Looking at the lagoon. There is a lot more room here than I remember. Several trees have been removed. All the electical from the old show, was being removed. Yep...more holes. I see you wildcat. At the time, wildcats cars were being worked on. Goodtime theater I can't wait to see the new area. Coasters dinner was getting some roof work. Random fencing One last look at this area. Bumper cars and skyride cabins. Lots more pictures comming later.
Philrad71
Thanks for sharing...love these off-season reports! I think the new lights on MF Power Tower and the Sky Wheel are going to be awesome. I was quite disappointed when they quit using the rainbow effect lighting on MF a few years ago. On another note, you mentioned them going back to the original fries at Happy Friar...what had changed with them? I had them last year & thought that they didn't taste much different than they ever had.
thrillrider
I am not quite sure eather. I know that Mama Birardies(sp) used to run the french fry stands years ago though.
