DougMJr
I have been given the opportunity to go on a cruise with a friend's family. We will be going on a Western Caribbean Cruise sailing on the Allure Of The Seas departing May 12th. This is an awesome opportunity for me as I cannot afford a cruise on my own. What I am having difficulty with is deciding what excursions to participate in while at port of call, specifically Labadee. I really want to try the "Dragon's Breath" Zip-Line. It seems like a real thrill and I know I will regret not doing it if I pass it up. However, my friend who has been to Labadee before told me that there is two hours of waiting and safety briefings and that ultimately it was kind of a let down. His suggestion is that we do the Alpine Coaster / Water Park excursion instead. Then, at Falmouth Jamaica, do the Zip-Line tour and Dunn-River Falls excursion combo. So I guess my question is, is Dragon's Breath worth it? Also, if you have any other advice about what to do at ports of call and on the ship please let me know. One last thing, do you suggest paying the extra money for a early-morning lesson on the FlowRider? I have never surfed in my life and wonder how helpful it will be. Thanks. -Doug Mandell
cfc
Definitely do the alpine coasters at Labadee and Jamaica (the latter is particularly good). As for the Labadee zipline, even though it's a bit pricey, I was glad I did it. However, I wouldn't pay the $85 to do it again.
SharkTums
The Zip Line at Labadee is a once in a lifetime thing. I would do it once, and really wouldn't need to do it again. If you're smart, it doesn't take 2 hours. (Book early, stay towards the front of the group, etc.) Definitely do the Alpine Coaster. The 'water park' isn't really a water park, just some blow up toys in the water that can get tiring and boring, I wouldn't personally spend the money on that. Jamaica has some really fun canopy tours, we've done two different ones including one with a freefall that was terrifying! Dunns River Falls...I'm not a fan, but I guess if you want to do the stereotypical Jamaican thing, that would be it. There's also an alpine coaster in Jamaica as Chuck mentioned and it's GREAT! Better than the Labadee one with a really scary chair lift through spiders and guys with machetes on the way up. I'm assuming your last port of call is Cozumel. It's an easy place to just walk around, or do pretty much ANY other sort of excursion offered other than Canopy Tours (it's a flat small island). They have ATV's, snorkeling, dolphins, cooking, segways, etc. I'm always for spending a bit more to get more, so if you have the means, by all means book a private or semi-private Flow Rider lesson as it will be much better for learning. robbalvey
One last thing, do you suggest paying the extra money for a early-morning lesson on the FlowRider? I have never surfed in my life and wonder how helpful it will be. Instead of doing a lesson, they will allow you to rent it out for an hour on the evenings on your cruise. It's pricey, about $300, but if you can get a few people to pitch in, it's WELL worth it! Having an hour on the Flowrider to yourself, and with the two members of staff they normally give you, you will absolutely learn how to do tricks, and get very familiar with the ride. I cannot recommend the "Flowrider ERT" enough!
DougMJr
Thanks for the feedback guys! So right now I'm think I'll try to work out a way to do Dragon's Breath and the Alpine coaster in Labadee, The Canopy Zip Line Tour and Alpine coaster in Jamacia, and The Ruins tour in Cozumel. I'm not going with a big group, but if I can find some people on the cruise that are interested I'll try to get FlowRider ERT. Looking over the PTR of the TPR trip on Freedom Of The Seas makes me really excited for this opportunity. This is my first cruise and that TR has helped me understand life on board! If you guys have any other advice for me please let me know. I think I have the cruise basics down. You know, use hand sanitizer, get the soda package, bring a first aid kit, ect... If there is any obscure thing you think will improve my cruise please let me know. Thanks again guys!

DougMJr
^Going through it now. Looks pretty Amazing. Also, your stateroom looks like it is in a similar area to ours. We are also going to be overlooking central park. Glad I read that TR. We were going to sign up for the comedy show, but may opt for something else instead as it seems pretty hit or miss. I am going to be so fat after this cruise! All that food! So far it looks like we will be doing the Alpine Coaster, the "waterpark" (part of combo), and I'll be doing Dragon's Breath in Labadee. In Jamacia the Zip-Line tour and Dunn-River Falls. And in Cozumel Xel-Ha Park.
