IAAPA 2011 Trade Show - TPR's Official Report!

Recommended Posts

Great coverage again Robb, you guys area really taking this thing to the next level this year!

That video from Zierer has me REALLY excited about Verbolten, that drop section looks to be a little more intense and exciting than Thirteen's does. I also wonder how they are going to theme the installation at Legoland so that it looks like you are on a frozen lake instead of on "bridge like" structure. Both attractions should be great, welcome to the big leagues Zierer!

^I agree, seeing Zeirer's working prototype in action got me pretty excited! To be fair though, Thirteen's drop was actually more suspenseful and intense than I thought it was gonna be, just the feeling of vertical movement like that on a coaster is a pretty weird sensation! I thought Thirteen was gonna feel more like a "frog hopper" drop, but it was more forceful than that... it was the rest of the ride that was really tame! I wish I could see what Thirteen's drop section looks like without the building around it, just to compare the nerdy stuff.

I can't wait to see what Busch Gardens is gonna do with this!

I still think that Thirteen's problem wasn't the ride itself, it was how they marketed it. If they simply just told people "It's like Big Thunder Mountain with a drop section", that would have been a real win. But instead, they told people it was so intense that old people will most likely die if they ride it. Um, yeah....

Do you know who Accesso is? Chances are, if you've bought a theme park ticket online, you probably used one of their systems!

This new product from Wave Loch (The Flowrider people) was really cool!

It's basically a half-circle Flowrider where up to 4 people can be surfing at the same time!

Did you notice if the Sartori booth still have a picture of their rotating seats drop tower concept? I saw that when IAAPA was in Vegas a few years ago and thought it seemed like a cool concept!

I didn't really notice, but honestly, what you see in that picture was about all that Satori had. It was pretty vacant.

The seats are quite comfortable, but I don't think I'd mount them that high if I put them in a living room. I have really long legs and my feet still didn't touch the floor of the train!

Another IAAPA video! More photos!!!!

Here is our final installment of our video coverage. In this video we interview Vekoma, WhiteWater, Maurer Söhne, and I ride some crazy-ass Moser spinning flat ride of death! Check it out...

More photos from Hanno!

Sally had these awesome "movie posters" for their dark rides! Some really cool ones in here!

iaapa_hanno_095.jpg.953803a01c050f20be2fd9c0e04d2b18.jpg

It was confirmed by Sally - you are "calling" the turkeys....with a "gun".... yes, a "gun."

iaapa_hanno_097.jpg.e52f8a734c57d991e5e2cd7422d05d97.jpg

More dark ride movie posters! Seriously, I want one for my house!!!

sally.thumb.JPG.ce07dda14e619dc41a8adbc36742d4c4.JPG

This one hurts a little to see, not because Hard Rock Park was a good park, but because this was seriously the most "WTF" dark ride ever made, only *slightly* beating out North Pole Adventure. It was honestly amazing.

The old man was back.

And our favourite part about Sally? They have TPR videos on display at their booth! =)

iaapa_hanno_102.jpg.6929decb0fb55a7b0a05106d7b388e4c.jpg

The guys at WhiteWater are always impressing me with their designs. While I hear the AquaDuck is more of a "lazy river" than a thrilling slide, I'm actually really anxious to ride it next year as being on a ride like that on the top deck of a cruise ship must be cool!

iaapa_hanno_103.jpg.5448cbb4bd1e0ba40e167f37acf2e02a.jpg

And yes, WhiteWater has a partnership deal with Wave Loch, and hopefully together they can sell more Flowriders!

iaapa_hanno_104.jpg.06f55d084c637f1a01e988b9a30c7961.jpg

Prime Play makes ropes courses and other kinds of "discovery center" type of attractions. They had a cool looking model!

iaapa_hanno_105.jpg.7b14b48548e70c28ac4ca66a6df3c975.jpg

Gerstlauer also had a couple of models on display.

iaapa_hanno_106.thumb.jpg.c82f2ecf5cb1bd3a67c649315e9f8522.jpg

This is a model of the flat ride from Belantis, and "rumor" has it that Mall of America is getting a ride that is similar to this, but a different model. We'll see if that actually happens!

iaapa_hanno_106bb.thumb.jpg.af638dc66e8e8b313176515be01c9fc2.jpg

And we'll wrap up Hanno's photos by taking one more look at S&S.

iaapa_hanno_107.jpg.2c88a926c0df956c8d4e4c5b1b507eed.jpg

I'd say that the Green Lantern and Manta cars need to go head to head in a battle for the most sexiest looking equipment on the show floor!

iaapa_hanno_108.jpg.4df1893d5a1c10e35314447a7b144a3b.jpg

NERD SHOT!!!!

iaapa_hanno_109.thumb.jpg.c14ede3bca19714f8b2df3b07a1398a2.jpg

Another look at the 4-across seating setup.

iaapa_hanno_110.thumb.jpg.8df856dc266ea5b3a718ea5100c321eb.jpg

And a closer look at the restraints.

iaapa_hanno_111.jpg.18fbb92fe2b0db28e146b9f738fc1698.jpg

Another NERD SHOT!!!

iaapa_hanno_112.jpg.a6239f8a7bb22fa805ecec5b056e5f5f.jpg

And finally, Hanno takes a picture of Hanno's photo on display, all lit up, in the S&S booth! =) It's great to see so much TPR produced material represented all over show!
