Hi Coastermaniacs,

I’m opening this topic to share with you a complete and detailed trip report about Beto Carrero World theme park.

To make a complete trip report of the park will split the post into 3 parts.

The first and second part is related to the park, and the third part is about events, new projects and other fun facts about this park.

MOD EDIT: I moved all three parts into one thread to make it a bit easier to read.

(Just a side note: most of the pictures was taken by me, some are official photos from the park and from other friends who are CBMR - Brazilian Coaster Club - members)

Beto Carrero is a very famous Brazilian character created by João Batista Sérgio Murad, a cowboy who has traveled the world performing several shows, including Las Vegas. After a visit to Walt Disney World, he dreamed of building a huge theme park in Brazil, and after a few years (on December 28, 1991) Beto Carrero World opened its doors.

On February 1, 2008 the entrepreneur J. B. Sergio Murad passed away at the age of 70 years and left as his heirs his son Alex Murad, current CEO of the park, and his daughter Juliana Murad, head of the marketing department in the city of São Paulo.

Located in the state of Santa Catarina, Beto Carrero World is the largest theme park in Latin America, with an area of 14000000 m2 and approximately 1600000 m2 of built area. It offers more than 100 attractions for all ages. It’s considered a multi-theme park since it has a zoo and several shows besides the park.

Currently the park is divided into eight theme areas:

- Castle and Nations Avenue (Park Entrance) - The Castle covers an area of 10000 m2 and has gift shops, banks, restrooms, ticket offices, event space, VIP area for the press and coffee shop. There is also a train station inside the Castle that - in the future - will take visitors to a new area called "Wild Adventure" (I will explain this later in part 3 of the TR)

Recently the park received a new outsourced attraction called "Super Cars". Visitors can choose between some luxury cars such as a Ferrari F-430, a Mustang or a Porsche to drive on the roads near the park, through routes ranging from 1.7 to 3.4 miles away. Prices range from $ 30 to $ 480 dollars.

Outside the Castle, another outsourced attraction is the Panoramic Flight. A helicopter that takes visitors to a flight over the park and nearby beaches. The duration of the flight ranges from 5 to 12 minutes, and prices are from $ 50 to $ 65 dollars.

10.jpg.b020efbb1bbe501d9824f8a112905a72.jpg

Curiosity: There are 17 empty luxury suites inside the Castle, only two of them are ready and they are in the luxury category - six stars, with gold plated door handles and taps, only to honorable guests.

Entering the Castle, there is an enormous square, about 100m in diameter, where you can find great shows and events with capacity for more than 4000 people.

1372427732_111.jpg.a8919a4bfd5e8707d6737547d8536ec3.jpg

Across the square, there is a commemorative stamp that they change on every park’s anniversary. This year – on December 28 – the park will complete 20 years.

TripLik Land (Kids’ Play Area) - This area is sponsored by a major Brazilian clothing brand and has attractions based on the park’s children characters (Betinho Carrero's Gang) and on the clothes brand (Lilica Ripilica / Tigor T. Tigre). The theme of this area was clearly inspired by IOA’s SeussLand.

German Village - Inspired by German culture and theme, this was the first theme area of the park, and it was built to pay homage to the immigrants of Santa Catarina. The administration offices of the park are located in this area. On special dates, you can find German music and dances presented during the day. The two main attractions of this area is a custom Vekoma family coaster (Tigor Mountain) and Excalibur (a medieval show with lunch included, similar to Medieval Times).

Animal World - This area was recently remodeled and has one of the largest zoos in Brazil, with more than 700 animals of various species. Unfortunately when I went to the park, several animals had not been placed in their cages yet, because of the reform.

The cages are very close to the visitors, some are made of glass so there is much interaction between visitors and animals. As an example, we can see this jeep with stairs: there is food in the back for the giraffes, a great way to take visitors closer to nature.

There are many animals walking free in the area and living in harmony with the visitors. Another attraction that promotes this interaction is "Moms and Babies," a kind of “pet nursery” with small domesticated animals that visitors can pet and feed.

Since it’s a zoo, this area doesn’t have large rides. There are two more calm attractions that offer a lot of fun for the families. The famous Monga show (the gorilla-woman), and also the Dum Dum coaster (a wacky worm).

There are two great shows in this area. One of them is the “Wild West Show”, with lunch included, where cowboys and Indians make an exciting fight to see who is the best in the west side.

75.1.jpg.416941828df0721543584d3d1b9461f0.jpg

Another great show is the "Cowboy's Dream" musical. The show is settled inside a big circus tent.

76.jpg.c93f562d7d81b282e1761d8fb7e39b2a.jpg

There is a memorial with objects and costumes that recall Beto Carrero’s life, and a theater for 4500 people, with high-end acoustic siding, a stage with 30 m2, four different sceneries where more than 30 performers sing and dance.

- Extreme Adventure - This is the most popular area of the park due to an obvious reason: there you have Beto Carrero World’s major rides.

The main attractions are:

Star Mountain - the park's first coaster, a Vekoma with bayerncurve. It was reformed recently. Unfortunately it was closed when I went there.

87.jpg.87d261f2a5f1380d80fb231c700633c2.jpg

Ghost Train - With three floors, this is a typical horror ride. It is temporarily closed, and there are rumors that it will return completely refurbished with five large sets and special effects.

Free Fall – An Intamin 1st generation drop tower with a very interesting theme. The structure of the tower was painted simulating wood, and there are two big gorillas: one outside (destroying a box) and another one on the tower.

Empire of the Waters - A 800m-long river rapids with whirlpools, waterfalls and caves, designed by the engineers of the park. It has some parts from German-based company Hafema. Its theme is very rich in details, so it’s considered one of the most "natural and realistic" river rapids in the world, with lots of vegetation around, making this water ride even more natural.

Extreme Show - A great show of cars, motorcycles and trucks, with a grandstand for 3500 people. The scenery is based on the architecture of the houses and buildings in the city of Florianópolis, capital city of the State where the park is located in. The show is 50-min long, and you see the largest car looping in the world (20 meters high) at the end. This attraction is sponsored by Volkswagen company, and it also has a cars exhibition and a beautiful theme restaurant, with a side view of the show.

- Firewhip - The first inverted coaster in Brazil, a SLC model. Its theme and name were chosen to honor Beto Carrero, since the whip was the main symbol of the character. The coaster was built on an artificial island with lakes and waterfalls, and it has a viewing point for pictures. This coaster is equipped with camera system that records your whole experience, and the DVD containing the images can be purchased after the ride.

- Fantasyland - A region with a theme that pays tribute to the Azoreans, who settled in the city where the park is. Here we have the "World of Birds", a huge aviary with 150 birds where park biologists take visitors to guided tours. As the main attraction of this area we have the famous "Dinomagic" railroad in which trains with capacity for 150 people go through various lands, including the Giants Land, Enchanted Forest, Beto Carrero’s House (where there is a fake armed robbery of the train passengers) etc. The tour ends in the Dinosaurs Cave, a place with animatronic dinosaurs that look very realistic. The route is 3,1 miles long and it’s a nice ride for the whole family.

This island is currently closed, because it was used on August and September for an evening event called "Dark Island" (I will explain this later in part 3 of the TR). There are strong rumors saying that this island will be expanded next year and transformed into a water park. There are signs that the project of the water park would be made by a Canadian company (so I think it could be ProSlides or WhiteWater).

The park has many attractions that – unfortunately – couldn’t be described here, but I’d like to share some information and interesting facts about the dimensions and future projects of this great Brazilian destiny. See in the third and last part of this photo TR...

Hi guys in last part of the photo TR,I will talk a little about the projects and major events that exist in the park.... Enjoy..

Alex Murad, the park director, always enjoyed sports and car events, so after the enormous success of Extreme Show, he decided to make the park a tourist destiny for these events. Recently the park has closed a deal with F1’s track designer Herman Tilke for the construction of an international kart circuit, a F1 race track, a track for Motocross Super League and a motocross arena, what may transform Beto Carrero World into a complex similar to Suzuka Circuit.

Several major sporting events take place in the park, such as Ironman, Beto Carrero Marathon, Beto Carrero Mountain Bike, Arenacross, Motocross Super League and Mitsubishi Rally. There are also major events in the tourism sector, in which they present “a new Beto Carrero World” every year for industry professionals.

A major area that the park has invested in is the terror one. The first edition of their terror event took place in 2009, when Michael Jackson passed away, and the park decided to make a tribute to the pop idol with this big event called “Thriller Nights”, featuring dance, Michael Jackson look-alike, monsters around the park and music.

In 2010, after a brief reform in the Pirates Island, it came the “Dark Island” event, which took place on August and September. Unfortunately, due to the small size of the area and to control the flow of visitors, it was required a separate admission. Due to the success of the event, there was a new edition in 2011, and I could check it out.

173.1.jpg.b7925064b2eb2344f106c9f897537ef2.jpg

With a larger structure and more theme, this edition was much more detailed. It had a great number of animatronic monsters and sceneries, as well as monsters sounds throughout the island and plenty of scare. The park has no tradition in this type of event and this is just the third time they promote it, but you can see that there is a concern with the quality of each detail. Starting next year, if the Pirates Island is transformed into a new water park indeed, this event will take place inside the park again.

Exit of the Island

As I said in the beginning, this park is the largest one in Latin America, and their projects are on the rise. Besides those already mentioned, there is the "Wild Adventure", a future attraction similar to Rhino Rally. A train departing from the “Nations Castle” will take visitors to the entrance of the new attraction. These are only plans, but they are all dreams of the “Brazilian hero” Beto Carrero being built.

Fun fact:

- Theo Theunissen, the main engineer of the park, is a former Vekoma employee and engineer.

- There is a “Betinho Carrero” game for iPhone and iPad on the App Store.

- A cartoon studio produced some of TV episodes to Betinho Carrero's gang. This project was aborted. See link of two episodes of this cartoon on Youtube (sorry guys, no English translation in these videos) -

I hope someday not only Brazilians, but the whole world can visit and see this Brazilian dream come true.

I will make a video of the park soon and put the link here.

And watch the videos on their YT channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/betocarreroworld

Thank you all.

Awesome report on the park!

Curiosity: There are 17 empty luxury suites inside the Castle, only two of them are ready and they are in the luxury category - six stars, with gold plated door handles and taps, only to honorable guests.

Guess we know where TPR will be staying if/when there is a Brazil trip!

Fábio, great pictures! Your trip report is awesome.

It is amazing what we have here in Brazil, is well worth knowing. I could never go to the park, only city of Sao Paulo (Hopi Hari Theme Park, Playcenter etc). But I'm scheduling my trip to Santa Catarina in the end of the year. haha

We want the TPR in Brazil!

Hello Guys, I always use this post to announce news about this park in Brazil, which grows more and more. And I have a very good news, on 19/10 Beto Carrero World was voted the best park in Brazil, through a magazine specializing in tourism. The park has been receiving a lot praise for its growth and increasing service quality. Just to remember the park has also been elected by the former Chilean site PdD - Parque de diversiones (http://www.parquesdediversiones.cl/) as the best park in Latin America. I hope that soon everyone here at TPR can visit our parks. Thank you all.

Last year, the park has partnered with DreamWorks and Universal Pictures to bring to the park the characters of Madagascar, Shrek and Kung Fu Panda, Fast and Furious (stunt car show) and their respective subject areas. On February 22, 2014, the first area was ready. Initially composed of a show Madagascar Circus and the old river rapids reworked, new shops gifts, snacks, and already separated area for future expansion and new attractions. Follow the links from the official video of the park and a video of a visitor to the show Circus Madagascar, almost complete. Soon we'll post pictures of a friend who was on debut. Excuse me if I wrote something wrong, my english is not so good.
