What do you do if someone is panicked or crying? Do you let them out through a special exit or something? I'm curious. dammie16@vt.edu Posted October 12, 2011 Share Posted October 12, 2011 Personally if I recognize that a person is scared and not enjoying being scared (Crying, panicked, etc.) I will ask them if they want an escort out. If you are really panicked or crying or something and want out, be sure to ask. It is not always recognizable that you are not enjoying the scare zone and if you say things like, "Stop," or,"Please don't scare me anymore," we won't necessarily take that as a serious request. Asking to be led out however is always taken seriously. Edit: Should be noted that this is coming from an outdoor scare zone. In a house escorts out may be more difficult however they all should have fire exits of some kind it would just depend on the who can we let out of those policy. Or this The only people over the age of 7 that I've seen fit to walk out of the zone were having asthma issues in the fog. kidcoaster 2 Posted October 12, 2011 Share Posted October 12, 2011 Pretty much what dammie said if someone is obviously having problems going through a house scareactors do break character and will help just make sure its known that you really need help. I don't know how Canobie operates but I have had a few I had to escort out but none for being scared only health issues. But if you don't want scared best thing you can do is not show fear as that is what actors feed off of and they will go after you if they know your scared. Most, if not all, haunts have "chicken exits" built in, mainly for the actors to get from one room to another, but also in case of emergency or if someone is going to have a heart attack. Just be sure to make it clear that you must leave and you are not playing around. While I have not had the need to be led out of a haunt myself, I have been scared so badly that I've gone into the fetal position while screaming / laughing and the actors never let up (they way it should be). If you get overwhelmed at any point, do not hesitate to talk to a staff member. It could be security, an actor, anyone; just make your fear known, and we can get you out. My most important thing to tell you is NEVER to hide if you're scared. We can normally tell if you're being entertained or being traumatized. If you hide your fear, we have no idea, and we'll treat you as a normal customer (no going easy on you ). Just bring some sense of adventure and common sense, and you'll be set. Nibbler Posted October 12, 2011 Share Posted October 12, 2011 Also it all depends on how you approach us, if you begin to get angry because we have done our job and lash out with the un-necessary swearing or threats of violence, then chances are we aren't going to feel any sympathy in watching you collapse to the ground in tears...if you go about the situation calmly and nicely then your chances of a clean chase-free escape are more in your favor. KingB24 Posted October 13, 2011 Share Posted October 13, 2011 Last year at Kings Dominion, I was going through the Doll Factory and a scareactor got overheated and the fog had completely covered the maze and everybody was evacuated. The scareactors just stood and pointed to the nearest emergency exit. It was neat, but this shows that they can and will get you out if something is wrong. I'm not one for mazes/haunted houses but it really wasn't that bad. The little kid in front of me kept on yelling "boo" at the scare actors, so if he could get through it so could I. I sometimes get claustrophobic as well so mazes aren't the best for me. I am cool with scare zones because I have room to move. So I can understand if the mazes scare you. jason10 Posted October 13, 2011 Share Posted October 13, 2011 When I went to Thorpe Park Fright Nights this year, my friend who has a prominent phobia of mental asylums (for personal reasons which we won't go into), was understandably apprehensive about going into the park's previous flagship maze 'The Asylum'. Saying this, she decided to brave it as curiosity got the better of her and we kept reassuring her it would be fine. As went went in, she started to panic. (She sometimes gets attacks.) When we went into the section with all of the strobes, she cracked, stopped moving and broke down crying. The actor who was there was very good in escorting both my friend and I back out the maze to the nearest exit. If you were to panic to a level where continuing would be near impossible, actors will no doubt be able to escort you out of the maze. Saying this, unless you have a specific and prominent phobia that relates to the subject of the maze, you should be absolutely fine.
