1pizza14
WOW! Oktoberfest looks truly amazing! No your TR was not to short at all! I wanted to see even more It looks like an out of this world experience and I really have to go sometime. Just a question. I went to a fair in Steinau and at every ride there wasn't really a queue anywhere. People just waited for it to stop and than sprinted on and rushed for a seat. Is it like this in Oktoberfest? I can imagine there having to be one considering the amount of people. Thank you so much for sharing.
crazydaveh
Oh man! The pictures remind me of my trip to Oktoberfest a few years ago! I had too much fun in the tents that I wasn't allowed to ride one of the coasters. My wife has some awesome pictures but due to our jobs, we don't post them! Thanks for the great pictures! Hope you've sobered up from it!

ernierocker
Oktoberfest just looks so amazing! And don't worry about the length of your trip report, it was fine.
sfog1985
I've always been amazed by the sheer size of those portable Schwarzkopf coasters. As someone who has ridden the former Texas Tornado (Thriller) back at SFAW (which was awesome to both look at and ride), it seemed incredible that a coaster of that magnitude had previously traveled around like the Alpina Bahn and Olympia Looping still do. Plus, OL is even bigger than TT was, and Alpina Bahn isn't that much smaller either!

None of the Flats have one, it is just jump on the ride when it slows down kinda deal As for the prices, Olympia Looping was €8, Höllenblitz and Alpinabahn €6 and the Mouse €5(but not 100%sure about that). Keep in mind that they can change the prices in either direction at ay time, so on slow days Olympia Looping might be €6 during the day and €10 on a busy Saturday Night... Thanks for the nice words in regards of this Tripreport, it was my first so edited a lot of pictures out as I did not wanted to go overboard with hundreds of pics
simon8899
Overall I say that for germans its cheaper to do the same rides on a local carnival as hotel prices in munich skyrocket during Oktoberfest - but if you're from overseas you've to do it! Some notes on your pictures: Parkour is a remade Schwarzkopf Monster 3 and is quite cool IMO. Techno-Power is one of the most intense flats in germany - a must-do! Playball is a Huss Flipper - aka "pinball machine". The price for Olympia Looping is by far highest at Oktoberfest - in Hamburg last time it cost €5,50 (USD 7) a ride - in Hamburg rides are not allowed to change prices with varying crowds. And its normally not that packed at other carnivals - in Hamburg on weekend sunny days they've at most two trains running - on slower but still sunny weekdays its one train and you've to wait quite some time till the train is at least half full. If it someday will become stationary it'll most likely end up in Taunus Wunderland which the Barth family operates. Did you visit the Teufelsrad and the Hexenhaus? Also must-do rides at Oktoberfest! @sfog1985 Three possible reasons for this: First, germany to much more compact than the US - the moving can be done overnight. Second: The actual moving is done by train which is far more efficient than by truck - only the way from the fairground to the cargo-trainstation is done by truck. Thrid: The fairgrounds are normally huge empty spaces, mostly leftovers from city fires, that are only used for carnivals or circusses - aside from that they're nearly empty parking-lots - so ride construction can take weeks without problems....this is what the Hamburg fairground looks like most of the year, its right next to famous Reeperbahn: http://www.nivek.ch/berlin/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/298_heiligengeistfeld.jpg

Moose
Thanks for the great pictures. It makes me remember last years TPR trip very fondly And as far as getting beer. We had a tent reservation ONE night. We went to the fairgrounds many a night and had no problem at all getting beer. Getting in a tent is one thing, but there is beer around every corner. My fondest drinking memories were in beer gardens and not tents. I'll put it this way, If you have a problem finding beer, you have other more serious problems. Me at a beer garden outside of Olympia Looping, 2010
alexinla
Did not realize that my Tripreport made the Frontpage(thanks for that) , so might aswell overstay my welcome with a couple of more random pictures, HA! @ crazydaveh , you dont see my face in this tripreport(for a reason)= It is ok to be drunk, none of these pictures were taken sober, so might aswell post yours! @ Moose, I love that beergarden next to Olympia Looping. Spent two hours there. So if you go next year, let me know as I will be there for sure.. ANYHOW, just a couple of random pics before we forget about Oktoberfest until next year.. This is one of these pictures you can not take sober, no matter how much you try, it would not work. But drunk, just click and voila, you got a picture to start a random Oktoberfest Thread... Some more Flatrides, Monster was also a Premier at Oktoberfest this year There should be no German Fair Tripreport without a Breakdancer(so sorry forgetting about including it in the first Tripreport). I told you the Top Spin was mean... ...but here you can see how mean it really was! Let's not forget about the Ferriswheel, which is a Schwarzkopf Creation aswell It is MASSIV! Here are the Stats to proove it! Lets take a minute to honor Auto Scooters, this is THE place for kids at random fairs in Germany to meet other kids(before the internet) ..and to this day they are quite popular for basically the same reason (now they just meet there thru foursquare) Ok, this is the random Picture Thread. So you will see a lot of horses at Oktoberfest, but do you think this is a American, British, Australian or (add your own country) Tourist? If you know....e-mail Dan (might aswell) Let's get back to funny walk-thru Funhouses! They beat any County Fair in the States ...just saying... Might aswell just chill in between the rides... ...At the Käfer Tent, which is smal and where the celebs hang out Random Girls And I conclude this Tripreport with the "Word Fattest Woman" from the Illusion Show (Wow, what an Illusion it was) SEE YOU IN 2012 AT THE OKTOBERFEST! (I will be there 100%, if you plan on it or have questions, just leave a message here or sent me a private one)

chemical_echo
I was there for one day with my Contiki tour group on Sept 25. A few of us got really lucky and found a table for 8 of us in the HB tent at around 4pm...finding a table is a bit of an understatement; we found one with room for about 5 and pushed all 8 of us in until the very drunk people next to us just left and gave us the whole table. The day was awesome, we were right next to the band and were all standing on the tables dancing and singing. You've never experienced Bohemian Rhapsody until a bavarian band plays it and an entire tent full of people are singing along. Two people on a table behind us also gave us a free sex show when they decided that the end of the table was a good a place as any for some good ol' fashioned German lovin. I'm not a beer drinker (hate the taste) but they gave me something that was beer mixed with Lemonade (their name for Sprite/7-up apparently) which was tolerable. I ended up having a few of those, pork knuckle, pretzles, pickles, apple strudle, and one of those deep fried apple danish things. I left the group about an hour before our meeting time so I could do some rides. I did Olympia Looping, Hollenblitz (which I now call Disco Mine Shaft), and High Energy before running out of time and having to leave. Also tried my hand at one of the shooting galleries; took me a few shots to get the hang of it, but I got 6/11 targets. I'll put up some pictures later. Also picked up a special edition Oktoberfest stein from one of the largest stein makers in Germany the next day when we were in St. Goar. Only 201 were made (for Oktoberfest's 201st year). Philrad71
but they gave me something that was beer mixed with Lemonade (their name for Sprite/7-up apparently) which was tolerable. I accidentally ordered just "a beer" there and got that (Radler, I think it's called) and almost threw up when I tasted it. I love beer so that was a really nasty surprise for me! Ended up giving it to two drunk younger guys next to me that weren't about to waste a beer!

alexinla
I kinda like Radler for a Summerdrink, but at Oktoberfest it should be a no no. Another (for Americans) crazy Beerdrink is "Drekisches" aka Beer with Coke(translated it is called dirty beer) I drink it sometimes in L.A. and when my friends look with disgust at me, I just tell them to taste it and they end up loving it! Thanks for posting those photos. I really need to attend Oktoberfest or at least a German fair at some point, as they look like amazing fun. Any German Fair is a lot of fun. It does not have to be Oktoberfest. The Fairs in Düsseldorf/Cologne or Hamburg are cool and usually run during the Summermonths which might work better if you plan on traveling Europe during that time of the year
