Warner Bros. Movie World (WBMW) Discussion Thread

It looks like this flat isn't the only thing we'll see from Movie World, with a development application for a Roller Coaster approved. RCDB says it will open in 2017 and is an extreme steel sit down coaster.

They also had applications in for a lakeside precinct, entertainment precinct and Hotel.

It's about time that this park begins to grow larger. I'm actually living in Gold Coast, QLD now for a bit of time, and it's apparent that this is such a tourist destination. Larger expansions would be well-received by the public.

A massive area of land at the front of the park has started being cleared.

Mack crates have also arrived on site. No track - just small crates (probably for foundations or something). Hopefully we'll be getting an announcement soon.

All this information comes from Parkz.

To kick off this PTR, here is how my journey from Ohio to Australia came to be!

I met one of my best friends/mates Jack while working crazy hours at Magic Kingdoms Enchanted Tiki Room & Aladdin's Magic Carpets during my Disney College Program Jan-May 2015. Jack is from Australia and was doing Disney's International College Program Jan-June 2015. 200 bird shows later it was time to drive back home, to work at Kings Island in Cincinnati Ohio. I was able to show the "Aussie Boy" around the states on the drive home stopping at Carowinds for the new Fury325 and finally getting to Kings Island to show off my park I would always compare and contrast our experiences at Disney too. Before he had to fly back to Orlando to finish his final month working for the mouse.

Working that season at KI I was able to save a little from each paycheck to afford the trip down under. As soon as Kings Island closed for the 2016 season I hopped on a plane for Melbourne and the 3 week journey began. Alot was planned for this trip consisting from Sydney, Gold Mines, Australia Zoo, Great Ocean Road, and of course the Aussie Theme Parks. We had a week in the Gold Coast during the middle of my trip visiting Sea World, Movie World, Wet'n'Wild but no Dream World. When you have an opportunity to go to Australia you have to take it!

We went to Movie World 3 times during our 8 day trip along with Jacks family.

So here is my first PTR with lots of photos.

Out of the 8 days staying in the Gold Coast we only had 1 day to ride Scooby Doo before it went down for annual rehab.

The themeing was very surprising how detailed and how to looked just like the movie. The Scooby Doo Movie was filmed in the neighboring sound stages.

The themeing for this attraction and surroundings was absolutely fantastic even with the ride being closed I really liked how the park still let you walk around all the character displays.

I think Wild West Falls ended up being my favorite attraction at the park due to the immense themeing, long cycle, backwards section and an acceptable amount of wetness.

This was by far my favorite SLC. In fact we rode it multi-able times over our 3 visits to movie world. I was shocked, it features the same restraints as Kentucky Kingdoms T3. Biggest difference is the angle of the seat on Arkham you sit at a angle vs T3 where you sit practically flat. The back rides the smoothest.

I wonder if the new coaster at Movie World Australia will be at all similar to this coaster https://rcdb.com/13796.htm

https://rcdb.com/13637.htm

Doubt it, it's been practically confirmed that it's going to be a hyper (or just short of one if the height from RCDB is correct - a little strange to build a coaster so short of a hyper) so I'm expecting something like Flash with a drawn-out layout, airtime hills, maybe one or two inversions thrown in too. Regardless of what it is, it looks like it's going to be a massive coaster and definitely one of the best for 2017.

^They have a fast track option, I think it's around the $30 mark for a "once per ride" option and a bit more again for unlimited. It covers most rides but not Arkham Asylum. I've never used it myself but all of the fast track entrances go straight into the station, there's no "merge point" in the queues.

All that said, you probably won't need it. Due to the Dreamworld incident attendance is very much down at the moment - on Saturday everything was a walk on.

Cool thanks to know. I do fear i might need it though

How bad has the attendance been since the Dreamworld incident?

It is actually common-ish to have a coaster slightly short of a hyper outside the US, mainly because most of the rest of the world uses the metric system. If Colossos (196 ft) were built in the US, I guarantee they would have built it to be slightly taller to be over 200 ft. However, 196 ft is about 60 m, which is a pretty even number. The hyper measure does not mean as much when it is based on a measurement system in an even number your country does not use.

The main exceptions I can think of are Behemouth/Leviathan, but these are over the boarder of one of three countries that use the imperial system (and Liberia and Burma are not quite known for their roller coasters).

Interesting all the indoor scooby themeing has been removed, hopefully the spooky coaster will return better then before.

4:40

Was just at the park yesterday. The coaster was bare and the only things you could see other then darkness was the guard-rails around the track. The ride was shockingly bad without the theming. Just pure boredom. I understand maintenance has to be done. But to rip the theming out in the school holiday confuses me. Maybe a re-theming coming?

So doomsday destroyer is down for maintenance again I was at the park Sunday and they were testing it, And i was told it doesn't open til Feb. Whats going on with the ride seems closed a lot. Also the Arkham Asylum was stuck on the lift hill now every media page is running with and many people are now talking about how unsafe the gold coast parks are.
