HERSHEY, PA – The world’s first hydraulic launch coaster, featuring inversions, will race into HERSHEYPARK for the 2004 season, bringing the Park’s herd of roller coasters to a perfect ten.

Built by world renowned Intamin AG of Switzerland, the new high speed coaster will accelerate from 0 to 72 miles per hour in approximately 2 seconds! Climbing a nearly vertical incline to a height of 150 feet then plummeting approximately 180 feet at a 90 degree angle, the new coaster weaves its way through nearly four and one half acres on 2,600 of steel track and interacts with three HERSHEYPARK rides: Monorail, Dry Gulch Railroad, and the Trailblazer. It will also cross over Spring Creek twice. The station house for the new coaster will be located in the Pioneer Frontier section of the Park and will feature a dual rider loading/unloading operation. Coaster lovers will be treated to several customized, unique elements: Top Hat (150 feet), Power Drop (approximately 180 feet), Cobra Loop (135 feet), Barrel Rolls, and a dramatic Flying Snake Dive.

The new coaster features two trains, 20 passengers per train for a theoretical ride capacity of 1,200 riders per hour. Ride time is approximately 60 action packed seconds!

The management and staff of HERSHEYPARK are asking the public to help name the new coaster by participating in the HERSHEYPARK Name the Coaster Roundup. The search for a name has been narrowed to three choices: Steel Stampede, Renegade, and Storm Runner. The public is invited to help choose the final name for the 2004 coaster; information on voting is available at 1-866-HPK-2004 or Hersheypark.com. The contest runs August 5-19 and the winning name will be announced at a later date.

Little did the public know at the time that STORM RUNNER would become one of the greatest hydraulic-launched coasters of all time, being the first to include inversions into the mix as well. With a 0-72 mph launch in 2 seconds, a 150ft. top hat, 180ft. drop, Cobra loop, and the iconic Flying Snake Dive, it's a given that it was destined to be completely awesome

Experience vertical horsepower on STORM RUNNER, launching in on Friday, July 15th in RollerCoasterTycoon 3!

Ummmm....

StormRunner CAME WITH RCT III as an installed track- along with the Hershey's Chocolate stall and the Reece's Peanut Butter Cup Spin.

If you're uploading that track to TPR, Shame, Shame, Shame on you. And other bad things will happen, too!

Oh gosh no. I'm not that..."smart"...

It's a recreation using a CTR that has the cars/trains for iSpeed, Speed Monster, Blitz trains with/without holes, and other assorted cars/trains from the game itself.

I'm not trying to get into trouble here, I'm not trying to get the thread locked up, and I'm surely not trying to make something that has already been made. This recreation is something I've wanted to do for years, and I hated the Storm Runner track made on RCT3 already, so I finally decided to make my own recreation.

Sorry to the people that I made mad...I knew that the top post was going to get me in trouble but I wanted to start off the recreation like Storm Runner was in reality, and since they had minimal animation and teasers for this ride, I wanted to keep it the same way.

Again, sorry for all the trouble.

Day 2 - July 12th, 2011

Cobra Loop and Spring Creek crossing completed!

Shot0005.jpg.0f7409c5880f1d60f8af68982d99adc0.jpg

So far I've had to cut out 2 or 3 supports due to over-supporting and minimal space, but it looks pretty real to me.

Shot0006.jpg.8e667817a80c3fd0c58d960a7359d754.jpg

Overall completed supporting (Ignore the non-existent footers!)

More coming soon...

This is really great! Looks super realistic. I rode this yesterday and this looks almost the same.

That's the plan! I rode it last weekend (4th of July weekend) and couldn't resist a project I've been wanting to do for a long long time.

Possibly, if the horsepower's ready, a teaser video might be making an appearance sometime soon....

Day 3 - A LOT STARTED...little completed

Look at that!

Shot0002.jpg.cc5763bfb10587ab0da376c7ca8efc3d.jpg

Pathwork under STORM RUNNER and Railroad started:

Shot0004.jpg.372965034c1c8dc069e863af9a4b60b5.jpg

That's better :)

Shot0005.jpg.0476b94ef7b5f299dd347d3d67861055.jpg

Looks pretty cool!

But something seems to be missing here...

Shot0006.jpg.b57ffadd58816c4863396bbd4bb80e65.jpg

FLOATING STEEL!!!

Shot0007.jpg.d14d275c0e65433f69d404587a2231e9.jpg

That might come in handy

Overall, I don't think I'm going to put in Trailblazer just because of the teeny tiny amount of space I have to work with. I put in the Monorail and Railroad because they truely interact with STORM RUNNER, but Trailblazer just doesn't wanna fit.

It's a lot of work still to do, but I can't wait to see the final result. Comments and criticism are always welcome too, anything that will make the project better please offer up your opinions.

They are CoasterJoe's Queue Railing set including Doughnuts Railings. (both sets are downloaded in CoasterJoe's set) I used Doughnuts Railings mainly but used CoasterJoe's in the station for the diagonal sections. Both sets have railings for staircases, and Doughnuts includes the fans that you see in the picture; they move too!

OOOOO....a photo viewing shop too!

Can't wait for tomorrow to come....

Oh, and please comment if you have any advice on things I could do to enhance STORM RUNNER and the surrounding area more. You could also give pointers on things that are missing from the ride and scenery. Thanks.

Due to slow computer problems, the release of STORM RUNNER has been delayed until July 24th, 2011

I apologize a ton for this, but the ride is 100% done and filming is nearly done. The only huge problem is my computer, as the files and game seem to be too much for it to handle. It'll make it through this project I promise!

I found another accurate video...I'm pretty proud

Also, while sitting in my driver's ed. class watching a video on construction and signs, the idea for the next project came flooding into my head. After running from storms, the next one will take you towards the sky...

It does look spot on! It's kind of a bummer seeing all the Hershey stuff that went into rct3 going to waste, finally though somebody knows what they're doing enough to recreate this masterpiece of a ride!

I really, really like this recreation that you've done. It looks almost picture perfect.

If you want to fix minor details - I have one thing you can improve for realism:

The maintenance walkway on the launch is only the left side and extends down the entire launch. The stairs to this walkway are at the beginning of the launch and end of the launch segment (immediately before the house that holds the launch's motor (with the red roof)). There are no maintenance walkways on the right side of the track.

There are some elevation issues between Trailblazer and StormRunner, but due to the mechanics of the game, you've got it as close as virtually possible.

Other than that, I think you've done a fantastic job.

Thanks! I am using some of the Hershey stuff added to the game from the Soaked! expansion pack, but a lot of the scenery, rides, and STORM RUNNER itself are custom scenery and CTR's.

Thanks for the info. I changed the maintenance walkway like you said, and now the railing and walkway are only on the left side of the launch. Also, there is some elevation difference between STORM RUNNER and Trailblazer, but, like you said, it's understandable because of the game itself.

Video production, editing, and more are occuring, and I am SO EXCITED. This is my first ever video I'm putting out, so I have a lot of pressure that I put on myself, but I can't wait for everyone to see the final creation.

The storm is only a day away! (And this time, I'm serious)

Holy Jesus. This is crazy! And by crazy, I mean wonderful!

For the record, your switch-track wouldn't work in real life, which is a result of the second station being a tile too far away from the working one. And if the one station is connected to the main track, then the second shouldn't be. I don't blame you if you don't want to go back and fix that somehow, just pointing it out!

I'm pretty sure its meant to represnt how actual intamin switch tracks do work in real life, it just doesnt have the correct shaped pieces too in game. It is intamin right that use the track on either side, running in different directions and roll them over when needing to change isn't it?

Looks nice either way.

Cheers
