Six Flags Over Georgia (SFOG) Discussion Thread

^My thoughts exactly. They are treating this like it was a sudden decision yet like they are behind schedule ...and all so early in the season. It's definitely odd...

I guess it is possible they just made the final decision on what they want to build for 2017 and when they looked at the schedule knew they needed to get started very very soon. Though that could be me being overly optimistic of something really cool.

First thing, there is not much land to clear for a JL:BFM ride. Why start now where demolition and site prep is minimal.

Now, if you look at Google Maps, there is plenty of land (not huge) behind the bumper cars and behind the old Viper station. Good space for a coaster.

If this will be a S&S coaster, it could go behind the bumper cars over the behind the train maintenance shed. Again, it won't take 8 months to build one of those. Think about Goliath construction. Started in mid summer with the Great Gasp closing. There were construction markings for the footers already mid summer.

If anyone is on the train of the Superman path, see if there are any signs of survey markings. This can get us some idea. If this will be a large coaster which I doubt, you will see tree removal potential and clearing going on by fall time.

Potential rides/coasters for the area:

JL:BFM - Would fit perfect in the spot. Metropolis City folks! Still wondering why start now.

S&S Freespin: Would fit and would be a clone of Great Adventure. Still wondering why start now. Narrow footprint.

RMC T-Rex: Only concept been scene. This would be a great addition if they can add a launch element to it.

RMC Wood: Could fit a RMC coaster like LR or Outlaw Run.

B&M: Long shop for a drop or floorless.

Mack Water Coaster: Room for this and can go over 60mph. Launch type as well.

They would need to demolish an entire building which is surprisingly large, remove a bunch of trees behind it and possibly divert an access road before starting construction on the new building. It seems like a fair amount of work to me.

Wouldn't they just renovate and expand the current building?

Either way, I'm glad they are working so early, but I can't imagine it taking almost a year to install.

^Good point, although I guess if they would need to knock down the building anyways that doesn't make the spot quite as obvious for Battle for Metropolis as I thought. I guess even just having the foundation there is helpful (and yes the location is smart since it's attached to Metropolis Park).

So by 2017 every park in the chain will have one of these lame rides or what? b/c it seems like SFMM, SFGADv and now SFOG are rumored to get this crap what other SF parks still don't have one?

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and Six Flags America don't have a Justice League dark ride yet!

Well whatever is coming, I have a hunch it should be pretty substantial.

I mean to shutter a ride permanently this early in the season tells me they need ample amount of time to prep the area for whatever they happen to be replacing it with. Also, to make such a fanfare on social media about closing a ride that I don't think will be terribly missed is a smart marketing technique because it makes the park guests focus their attention to that area of the park and begin to question what will replace it.

More times than not, I've noticed that whenever a Six Flags park announces that an old coaster or attraction is closing, something of some sort of substantial significance has replaced it. I mean for many years SFGAdv has been the epitome announcing an aging attractions' closure and replacing it with something new: El Toro replaced Viper, Green Lantern replaced GASM, The Joker replaced the decrepit lakeside grandstands, Zumanjaro and El Diablo were the replacements for Rolling Thunder, and Dark Knight replaced Chiller and Water Effect. But whatever the case, I'll certainly have fun seeing what the park ends up doing with the area though.

Look, they tore down the Bumper Cars and put up the JL:BFM in 1 hour!

Nice fit everyone!

That's obviously photoshopped.

I don't think so. It looks legit to me.

Literal

By the way, the one thing (besides the early start on land prep) that makes me think a large coaster addition is actually possible, is that Carowinds just added a dynamic, marquee coaster in Fury. Now, if you're from the area, correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't that be SFOG's biggest competition on the market? Six Flags nay be feeling the heat to respond, and maybe a B&M Wing Coaster or RMC Goliath type coaster is what they feel would snag some of the attention back. Just a thought...

Dollywood is also 4 hours from the park, and many people from Atlanta go to Dollywood as well, and they have opened 3 new coasters, including a record breaking RMC, in the span that SFOG opened DDD

Yup so don't rule out Dollywood... They are also just as big competition to six flags.. plus Dollywood is getting close to having the same amount of coasters as well.. Six Flags should be worried about these other parks if they are trying to compete but also remember the original concept of six flags wasn't to compete with other parks but to give local areas a local park to go to..

Times are changing though so they must compete in my opinion

Yeah, I had forgotten about how close Dollywood is! So that only further hits home my point, that they seriously need to step it up in terms of a sizable coaster addition, after seeing the two closest competing parks add the world's tallest Giga coaster, and the world's first launched wooden coaster, in consecutive years! The shots have been fired, SFOG... How will you respond in your battle for the Southeast not named Florida?

"We may or may not be adding a dark ride that is currently at 4 other Six Flags parks.....and we uhhh....we added Joker, rethemed Canyon Blaster, and fixed Ninja, I mean Blue Hawk! Go Big! Go Six Flags!"

Hopefully with something big and impressive.

To be honest it actually seems like SF is pouring a respectable amount of money into Over Georgia. An entirely new waterpark, a massive kiddie area refurb, some new flats and a coaster refurb that's probably more expensive than most realize.

The difference is its just not the obnoxious amount of money going into the other two nearby parks. It's actually interesting seeing as how two of the fastest growing regional parks in the country are in the same region, which is unfortunate for SFOG.

Does anyone here know if Uber or Lyft services the Hartsfield-Jackson airport? I was searching online for it but I could only find articles about how those companies are in dispute to see if they're allowed. So I'm really just not sure. I'm arriving at the airport in a few weeks at 7:30 am and we're going straight to Six Flags (and yes, we're aware the park isn't open for a few more hours). What is the easiest way to get there? We will not be renting a car.
