Six Flags Over Georgia (SFOG) Discussion Thread

I highly suggest you ride Thunder River during your visit. It is the most realistic looking rapids ride I have ever seen, and the rapids after the second tunnel are insane. You hit them so hard the entire side of the raft that hits them gets covered above the riders heads. If you don't mind being soaked.

There is a building with a balcony that overlooks the ride just down to the right of the Rabun Gap Train Station with a great view and really good water cannons that blast riders hard. If you continue to the right of that building, that pathway will cut through to Lickskillet and the back of the park without having to go through the traffic jam around the entrance to Monster Mansion. It's a great little cut through if you are heading from the USA section to the back of the park.

This is true!! Awesome rapids ride.. I have gotten bloody fingers and scrapes on it several times from being knocked around.. But it's a fun knocked around. I love it ha-ha..

I too have experienced some bruising to the legs and hips from being ricocheted when the boat hits a rock. It's great though! I've also embarrassingly choked after taking a water cannon directly in the mouth and nose.

  • 2 weeks later...

Keep an eye on your emails.. I received an email with a coupon for the basic Dining Plan for $34.99.. I was allowed to buy two at that price (one for each of my passes)..

Basic only gives you lunch and a snack but I have never seen the basic below $50..

I'll easily pay for it with the amount of times I go!!

The new gold is currently $84/person (it's available to anyone with a season pass not just those with a coupon for that price) but right now it includes a Bottle for free..

The basic for $34 though is a heck of a deal. My code was only good until 2 today so it's not a very long code

Enjoy thrills like never before as some of our most popular coasters will be equipped to allow you to wear Samsung Gear VR headsets and feel the heart-pumping adrenaline of steep drops, inverted loops and powerful twists and turns as gyros, accelerometers and proximity sensors synchronize all of the action in an incredibly realistic 360-degree virtual reality world.

Whether you're soaring through Metropolis on our SUPERMAN Virtual Reality Coasters or co-piloting a fighter jet on The New Revolution, this remarkable technology is a definite game-changer. The headsets allow guests 13 and older to enter a virtual world with high-resolution imagery and 360-degree views that synchronize to the action of the coaster in a totally new, one-of-a-kind experience.

Six Flags and Samsung Partner to Launch First Virtual Reality Roller Coasters in North America

Samsung is “Official Technology Partner” at Six Flags Theme Parks Nationwide

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas, and New York City — March 3, 2016 — Six Flags Entertainment Corporation (NYSE:SIX), and Samsung Electronics America, Inc., today announced a broad marketing partnership which appoints Samsung as the “Official Technology Partner” of the world’s largest regional theme park company. The partnership includes the debut of ground-breaking experiences coming to nine Six Flags parks—North America’s first Virtual Reality (VR) Roller Coasters, using Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus.

In partnership with Samsung, Six Flags is taking its signature brand of thrills to the next level and beyond in fully immersive, virtual riding experiences using Samsung Gear VR. Some of Six Flags’ most popular coasters will be equipped to allow riders wearing Samsung Gear VR headsets to feel the heart-pumping adrenaline of steep drops, inverted loops and powerful twists and turns as gyros, accelerometers and proximity sensors synchronize all of the action in an incredibly realistic 360-degree virtual reality world.

“This remarkable technology is a definite game-changer for theme park rides and represents everything our brand stands for—delivering the most thrilling and innovative rides and attractions in the world,” said John Duffey, Six Flags President and CEO. “With the addition of these virtual reality coasters, Six Flags will be introducing more than double the number of new coasters and rides than we did in 2015, and more than any year in the last decade. Innovation is part of our DNA, and news in every park every year is driving higher guest satisfaction and building strong momentum for our company."

“What makes this partnership so compelling for consumers and the broader tech industry alike is that both companies are committed to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible - and bringing a VR coaster to life is certainly a new and thrilling proposition,” said Marc Mathieu, chief marketing officer at Samsung Electronics America. “Now, people can be immersed into a totally new universe while riding a roller coaster, powered by Samsung Gear VR virtual reality devices.

This transforms the modern roller coaster into a totally new, one of a kind sensorial experience - powered by technology. We are excited to work with the premier brand in theme parks to bring Samsung’s VR technology to nine Six Flags locations across the U.S.”

Samsung Gear VR – designed to accelerate virtual reality into the mainstream – provides an untethered, fully-immersive experience with 360-degree content for an extremely high quality mobile VR experience. Built to work with Samsung’s Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+ and Note5, the Gear VR headset utilizes each device’s super AMOLED display to provide the color, clarity and performance needed for an amazing virtual reality experience.

About the VR Roller Coaster Experiences

Six Flags and Samsung will launch the new VR Roller Coasters beginning this month and into the summer, totaling nine coasters across the U.S. On the six New Revolution Virtual Reality Coasters, riders are transported to a futuristic battle to save planet earth from an alien invasion. Riders are the co-pilots in their own fighter jets as they strap in for air-to-air combat. Taking in the view around them, riders will see other aircraft in an underground secret bunker. As the aircraft moves to a landing pad, it begins to launch its thruster engines, lifting the craft straight up through the roof. During the ascent, riders can test fire their weapons using the world’s first-ever interactive gameplay technology on a roller coaster. As riders clear the roof, they realize they are on top of a skyscraper and about to launch off the edge of the building diving straight down on the first drop of the ride. The aircraft races through the city until reaching the edge of the skyline where riders see the mother ship hovering above. The mother ship is heavily protected by drones and the mission is to get past the drones, fire on the mother ship and destroy it. This elite fighter squadron experience will make its debut on the following six roller coasters:

 Shock Wave at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, opening March 10 to Season Pass Holders as a special sneak preview;

 Dare Devil Dive at Six Flags Over Georgia outside of Atlanta, opening March 12 to Season Pass Holders as a special sneak preview;

 The New Revolution at Six Flags Magic Mountain near Los Angeles, opening March 26 to Season Pass Holders as a special sneak preview;

 Ninja at Six Flags St. Louis in Eureka;

 Steamin’ Demon at The Great Escape in Lake George, New York and

 Goliath at La Ronde in Montreal.

On Six Flags’ three new SUPERMAN Virtual Reality Coasters, once riders take their seats and fasten the headsets, they will be fully immersed in the 360-degree comic-book world of Metropolis. Guests will be taken on a leisurely (or so they think) tour of the city of Metropolis, courtesy of Lex Corp Sky Tours. Just after departing the station riders encounter Lex Luthor who uses an anti-gravity gun along with his army of Lex Bots to create chaos throughout the city with cars, taxis and buses floating in mid-air around the rider’s vehicle. As the Lexbots continue shooting at the vehicle, SUPERMAN uses heat vison to destroy the anti-gravity gun, causing all objects to suddenly fall, including the train as it takes the first giant drop of the roller coaster. Riders then soar alongside SUPERMAN as he battles the evil Lexbots

through hairpin twists and turns, loops, dips and dives before ultimately defeating Lex and the Lexbots, and returning safely back into the station. This amazing adventure will debut on these Superman-branded coasters:

 SUPERMAN Krypton Coaster at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio;

 SUPERMAN The Ride at Six Flags New England in Agawam, Massachusetts; and

 SUPERMAN Ride of Steel at Six Flags America in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

I just hope the line on Dare Devil Dive doesn't wrap around the whole park

My thoughts as well. It’s cool to see Six Flags experimenting with something unique and different here, but it does strike me as a capacity nightmare... DDD is already probably the lowest capacity coaster in the park, and having the additional confusion of the headsets probably won’t help that. Then again, more people stuck in the DDD line means fewer people I have to deal with at Mindbender. Hopefully it works out for them though and I do look forward to at least trying it once!

Is there a reason DDD is being paired up with Revolution? I'm not exactly getting why The New Revolution logos are all over DDD.

edit*: I guess just because they are going with the same VR experience?

^ It looks to me like they’re using the tagline “The New Revolution” as a marketing tagline for a specific film/ride experience with six of the VR coaster experiences. The other three will feature a Superman theme. It’s kind of confusing to us as enthusiasts because we know about The New Revolution at SFMM, but the GP won’t know anything about that.

On the 2016 park map on the website the Ninja is a different color and if you look on the attractions list it lists it as the "All New Ninja" coming late spring. Does anyone know about this? Is it just a repainted or something more?

^Thank you for posting this! I have been checking every few days for the new map and it's finally here.

I have not driven by the park recently, but I hope Ninja isn't actually being repainted that color. I think the red and black fits better and looks good in that area. I am all for new paint, but Ninja was repainted not long ago and still looks fine. At least this helps confirm they probably won't be removing it anytime too soon. I, unlike most, love Ninja.

Scorcher should've been the obvious first choice for a fresh coat (in the same current color it has).

Ninja won't be opening until Memorial Day weekend. The fact that they call it "The ALL NEW Ninja" makes me wonder if there is more to it than just the repaint. Could we see VR move to Ninja after the spring season? New trains/restraints? Just new paint?

Ninja would at least be the 4th coaster to get painted on my list (after Scorcher, Superman, and Goliath), however Batman, Scorcher, and Mindbender have all been painted more recently than Ninja. I guess it is time for new paint.

The one - and only - time I rode Ninja it did a karate chop to my neck at the bottom of one of the loops. Having a screen making it even harder to anticipate upcoming rough spots on the track seems even more masochistic ...

The front seat was a walk on during a medium busy day, suggesting it isn't popular.

Bench: the ride would be a much better improvement.

^I love Ninja (It's actually one of my favorite coasters in the park) and it doesn't hurt me at all but I know it is painful to most people. Hopefully we will see new trains with vest restraints. I can't imagine they would chose Ninja out of all the rides to repaint if it's just a repaint. It would also be a new low for Six Flags to market the ride as "all new" just because of a new paint color but I wouldn't be shocked if that was the case.

I personally don't care what color the coaster is but I would welcome new restraints on Ninja if it is so. Something to calm the headbanging and ear punching would be wonderful. I've always called for the death of Ninja, but I might change my tune if they do something to make it a more enjoyable ride.

I would only be OK with this if it meant that other Arrow/Vekoma looping coasters in the chain got soft padded restraints. Probably not from Vekoma. Maybe Schafer or KumbaK?*

I haven't experienced either but I'm guessing as those trains have been added to Vekoma attractions.

Well surprise surprise...

It will be weird to see Ninja as a blue coaster, but a paint job is a paint job. Those trains sorta worry me though. The restraints look like those on the Goliath train at SFNE, and we all know what people think of that ride.

I never liked Ninja all that much, but I don't hate it. It does hold a special place in my heart as the first roller coaster I ever saw with my own eyes as a kid, but I couldn't care less about what SFOG does with it.
