Six Flags Enthuseast Posted May 27, 2011 Share Posted May 27, 2011 (edited) It's been all over Italian TV, posters, ad boards, and Facebook: Rainbow Magicland, a new theme park not far from Rome! It boasts a decent selection of rides, ranging from big thrillers like a Maurer-Sohne launched roller coaster, an Intamin spinning coaster, and a 70 meter tall drop tower, to smaller kiddie rides such as a Zamperla Rockin' Tug, a Vekoma Roller Skater, and a mini-ferris wheel. However, the park features various themed areas that are based around several ancient cultures and civilizations that are mixed together. It is a very appealing package of theming and good rides! However, my visit today proved that it's not always best to visit a park on opening day... I'll let the photos explain. After paying an absurd 10,90 Euro toll to get from Naples to this section of the Autostrade... We finally arrive! This looks confusing: buses right and cars left. Just keep right, and it forks to the left and right. Follow the fork appropriately. This is a very smart idea IMO: put solar panels over the parking to keep cars cool and to absorb solar energy to power the lights! Here's the park entrance. The ticket booths to the left side of the entrance. Price info. It's usually 35 Euro to enter... but I became slightly suspicious when the 'opening price' was reduced to 25 Euro. We're ready to conquer Rainbow Magicland! The lady takes your ticket, scans them, and lets you in. I thought the entrance was pretty neat. "I'm a Gargoyle! Give me a cookie and I'll let you in! Wait, they didn't tell you? Cookies are included in admission, you know." Various themed shops at the entrance. Looking down the main street. They have Euro penny machines here, too... and a lot of the Rainbow-tailed Cheshire Cat mascot thingys. The theming and attention to detail here is top notch. A general, 'unofficial' map of the park. This made me happy. This gave me a little concern... I was amazed by how quiet the launch was! Gift shop... not yet completed. Looks like it's running fine, though. Intamin Flying Island. Given a simple name. The coaster is sooooooo tempting... 3 of the 5 cars were sitting on the transfer track. We prepare to step on... Interesting characters written on the rocks... Loooooong arm. Control panel shot! Within a few seconds, we're already pretty high! Entrance, rapids, and more expansion. Raft storage hasn't been established quite yet... Plaza, Yucatan (splash boats), Shock - The Steam Machine (Maurer coaster), and the rest of the park. Airtime! The right side of the park. Fashion District, a mall just across the freeway from the park. Right before the final brake section. View of the funky section before the launch. We are HIIIIIIIGH UP! Before you know it, you're back on the ground with the fresh fertilizer and Maurer launched coaster. .... We learned it won't be open until June 24th. Fountain in the plaza. We walk over here to check out Yucatan. Also closed until the 24th. I'd like to give a shout out to the staff member standing in front of Yucatan who knew pretty good English! Thanks for helping us learn a little bit more about the park! She told us that we could walk on a bridge to our right to see this guy a little better! Well themed shop. Looks like it's being cleaned... View of the mine train and drop tower. Water hath not yet come down from thy chutes. The dragon spits out water! Mayan/Aztecan themed station. Ironically, the bulls in this park aren't bull. In fact, I think they're pretty cool! Mix of Mayan/Aztecan theming with German knights. Vekoma mine train = biggest open coaster of the day? This pizza was too crunchy for my liking... The park's Greek theater. We've reached MC Escher: The Ride! It's actually called Cagliostro. It's a Maurer spinning coaster. This park uses a pretty interesting rider counting system. Instead of having an op manually count the people that need to go in, this sign tells you how many people need to go in and tells you to ALT (Italian for Halt) when it's full. The turnstiles open and close accordingly. An efficient system, but it can create confusion when a group member is ahead and is stuck there. Mystika... Still lots of work to do! The brief outside section. I scream, you scream, we all scream for this ride to open RIGHT NOW! The mine train that's actually themed to sailing... They have some pretty awesome stuff here! In America, they'd never allow the sale of these miniature weapons! They actually hurt a little! "Imagine the children, walking along the midway, having real swordfights with their metal swords bought at a theme park... oh how I love the lack of lawsuits in Europe!" Choose your weapon wisely! We have arrived at... umm... L'Olandese Volante. This somehow translates into Sailing Themed Vekoma Mine Train ride. (You're not the only one going 'WTF?!?' right now) It looks duel stationed, but the left track is just the transfer. A little rattly, but a good layout and comfortable restraints made up for it. Don't forget the awesome magnetic brakes! Ice cream place still closed... MCETR still funky! One of the park's large eating areas. It has lots of tables inside and short-Italian knight armor! Lots of tables outside as well. I noticed the seating by the lake.... water show, perhaps? Fairytaleprincessland. Kiddie rides.... kiddie rides everywhere. Will this be Top Gear's next 'Car Football/Soccer Challenge' car? It's the tallest drop tower in the park!.... that's open. Pop Tower... interesting name. Yeah! Pop Tower is crazy intense! It took a LOT of bravery to conquer this 25ft tall monster! Oh, in case you've never seen one of these, you pull up to get to the top... And let go to slowly fall to the ground. Bumper cars, AKA Elforest. The Forest or Elf and Forest sharing the same f? You decide! Random buildings where children can play around. We managed to find a place that sells ice cream. Blatch Posted May 27, 2011 Share Posted May 27, 2011 Interesting TR... Rainbow Magicland looks like a really underappreciated new park, and not a lot has been said about it. I was fascinated myself when I first "discovered" this one on RCDB. For a park with such an ironic name, it sure has some amazing stuff! A lot of the rides look really neat, most of them are rides we don't really see all that much, especially Shock... that thing looks AMAZING! It's twisty, it has the launch of Maverick, the non-inverting loop of HRRR, Abisimo's overbanked turn, and an awesome looking transition into the MBCR! Too bad it wasn't open when the park first was. Part 2 This isn't any old ice cream parlor... this place sells genuine Italian gelato! It tastes as good as it looks. Note the exclusive Rainbow Magicland packaging on the ice cream sandwiches on the bottom left. Stracciotella (vanilla with chocolate chips), chocolate, and lemon gelato = epic win! Dad noticed this styrofoam piece of the floating car that's already been damaged! Imagine what this'll look like after a year! Teacups and Zamperla Rockin' Tug themed to a spider thing. Italian Wacky Worm - tunnel + lack of better rides = me being sad and pathetic enough to ride it! This one seems to have trim brakes on the big drop... perhaps people have complained about its blackout-worthy airtime? Mini rapids ride. Guess what? It's closed too! Car thingys. More Pop theming? Pop Balloons? That'd actually be pretty funny. Pop sait? I was thinking along the lines of pop wheel... Group photo in the cherry cake house, everyone! Poppalla, not Pop Balloons like I thought. Shock is visible from almost every part of the park! A nice, grassy area to keep the park from being all concrete... although it wasn't exactly Knotts Berry Farm's Beach Boardwalk to begin with! The path that leads to the restrooms. They're not clearly marked; mom and I both ended up going into the wrong restrooms! New food stand, anybody? The line for... something... Everybody can understand this! Various Pixilands that are visited in a ride vehicle similar to Peter Pan: The Ride is exactly how it sounds: you visit various pixie lands in a ride vehicle that is very similar to Peter Pan's! Before we do that, though, it's time for the Vekoma Roller Skater with better restraints! It's a yellow roller skater with some weird creature on the front of it... but it's a roller skater and that automatically makes it cooler than most other kiddie coasters! Seal of Vekoma "Guaranteed to be better than your average kiddie coaster or your money back!" greatness. Two awesome coasters... which is better? I'm unhappy to report that this was probably the most picturesque operating ride at the park today. It actually delivers a slightly intense ride! Magnetic brakes make braking smoother. And that makes the ride a lot better! Time for VPtaviarvstPPTR! I still like VPtaviarvstPPTR better! I noticed a few people with large cameras just outside the ride entrance. Theming in the queue. Green means go! See? Vehicles similar to Peter Pan used to visit various Pixilands! It's to fresh, it has footprints in it! "I'm trapped! Get me out of here!" This looks like a decent space for expansion. This bear is probably an ACER. So many sweets so many drinks (notice the use of Pepsi, unusual in Europe) so many Peanut M&Ms! How can one decide? Well, make sure to get the fountain drinks (didn't see any 'park cups', but I probably didn't look too hard). They're a lot better value than the bottled drinks. The many statues around this particular restaurant give you plenty of chances for good photo-ops. "Why am I even in here anyways? How could I have gotten here?..." Giraffes are among my mom's favorite animals. Another good view... Ahhh! Get me out of here! Mom and dad getting their pose on! SQUIRREL!! Flying Island again. I sorta prefer this to a standard observation deck. I like the breeze and the lack of dirty windows obstructing your view. I decide to take some nerd shots, since there isn't much else I can do with the ride. So many supports! Two cars in the station. I like the coloring (since orange is my favorite color, of course). Launch track. I like bolt! One of the last stators on the launch track. I don't even know what this is! All I know is that it's a red piece of the coaster that makes it go zoom! This coaster isn't quite as gracefully supported as Intamin Rockets like Stormrunner or Stealth... These hold the catchnets. It's hard for me to explain how perfectly twisty this ride is! These make the coaster go vvvmmmmmmm and slow down. So many cables, so little noise. The coaster goes through this part VERY quickly! Funky supports over hurrr. Ok, it's time for a break from Shock. Let's go check out the rapids. Brown water. Theming or bad filters? The world will never know... It spells Rakkard backwards. The boats are inert! Shifting our attention back to the subject at hand, you'll notice some neat rockwork down there. Epic theme music comes from these speakers. Looking in the distance, you'll notice construction still going on behind the rapids ride. Then, if you look at the guy in the white coat, you should take note that he told us to get out of the queue because the ride was broken down. I wouldn't have noticed the cave if we weren't forced to get out of the line. It's like Rip Ride Rock'it, except it banks back in the same direction instead of doing a full twist around. Finally, another cycle! Top of non-inverting loop. Overbank. MCBR. It goes through the corkscrew so slowly, it's more like a Zero-G roll! Whoosh! Ok, we need another break. Time for some Vekoma love! One train was just cycled empty. I almost forgot that some Vekomas had flip tracks! It took me a minute to find where the transfer piece was... Empty train was stacked. Thankfully, it was the empty train. I'd like to get an onride photo.... that one please! I could imagine a shirt with this logo on it. My camera died after taking this picture, so I'll just tell the rest of what happened. We walked over to Cagliostro and rode one more time. After waiting at the theater for a short time, we found out that the next show didn't start for a long time. So we went over to Drakkar and managed to get a ride in. Although it wasn't the wettest rapids ride I've ever ridden, it was pretty satisfying on a hot day like today. All in all, we had a pretty good day. Despite the lack of major attractions, I got a good feel for what the park was like and how it would fare. I think that it has a good base as a starting park, but can definitely use a little bit more to make it just right. I was thinking that I was crazy for thinking that the entire time I was reading the TR! It's the detailed theming but emptiness mixed with large expanses of concrete and raw wood. My only complaint about the park is that their kiddie area seems a bit underthemed compared to the rest of the park. Also, like Elissa said, they really need to put in a few shaded areas or something. I know it will most likely come in time, though - it looks like they had enough trouble opening it in time as it is. It's a shame most of the major rides weren't operating. This park looks awesome, the theming reminds me of Toverland. They could really use another big attraction though, maybe an Intamin Mega-Lite? I am totally jealous of that new Maurer because i loved Hollywood in florida. It was just plain awesome, besisdes the music the did noting and the assigned seating that denied me front seat. I wonder how this one will feel with a launch instead of a lift, looks very similar to hollywood with that fake loopy thinggy. It's just too far from the old town and not resort-y enough to attract many foreign tourists. Rome has WAY TOO MUCH to do as it is. So, this park is going to live/die by the locals. It looks like a really nice park and I bet it'll be even better once all the rides are going and all the shops are open. But I agree with others that it needs more shade. I would have put some sort of covering over it. It's also strange that they'd have to cycle to get back to the station (I'm assuming this since it looks like a small drop after the station). I have to agree that the park lacks a lot of trees. It has quite a few buildings and rides that provide some shade, but I think several sections of the park could benefit from some trees, in terms of both theming and shade. The grassy area I showed and the children's area could both use some more shade and a little less flatness. Another thing that I think could (and should within the next few years) be improved is the mid-range and high-range flat ride selection. I'm all for another major coaster like a Mega-lite, but I honestly think the park needs some more good flats. The drop tower will certainly take a good part of the high-range, but there isn't way too much in terms of mid-range. A Screamin' Swing, Disk'O, any kind of frisbee, and a newer inverter might do the trick, and based what I saw, there's plenty of room for expansion that I'm sure is taking place at this moment. I understand the transfer part, but after that...? The park was high on my todo list for this year, but I have to be honest that I am disapointed when viewing these TR's. Needs to fill in a bit for sure, but some of the rides look pretty snazzy. How was the mostly indoor coaster? And what did you think of the Pixieland dark ride? Of course, the two largest and most thrilling attractions were closed, but even when they do open... It could use a little more. ^Cagliostro was pretty good. I got to ride it twice, and I found it a much more enjoyable indoor coaster than Space Mountain at Disneyland because of its smooth transitions. Overall, though, it felt a little short; I wish it was a tiny bit longer. Believix was ok. As I said a few times, it's pretty much a super-girly Peter Pan: inverted, themed flying carriage that transports you to various pixilands.
