cwcoasterboy
Saturday May 7 was Media Day at Canada's Wonderland, just a day before the public opening of the park. Kunpc1 and I got a chance to check things out and bring you this update with tons of pictures of the new stuff happening around the park. - New food, new shows, and new coats of paint - Windseeker Testing - Sledgehammer being worked on still - Retro Wonderland - Project 2012 appears to have begun Here's a couple videos to go with the report: When you first enter the park, this is the amazing view Work begins covering the buildings on International Street with LED's for this years Starlight Spectacular The fountains have been re-fitted with a new LED package as well Lights being added to all the trees as well Corndogs and Turkey Legs have a new home near the main entrance One of my favorite spots in the whole park, the Cookie Cafe, got a bit of love. Mmmmm... Cookiewich! New Gourmet Popcorn spot on International Street, it's right beside the Italian Gelato stand that was added last year All the flavours in one spot... Honey Mustard? Really? I see you Windseeker! Looking good, all the parts are put together at least They were hard at work on Windseeker all day and Night. It looks they should be able to begin full testing soon. Water Dummies aren't just for coasters... What can you see inside? Not much of anything... While we were there today, the ride began some early testing. The gondola rose up off the ground and spun around at varying speeds. See the video at the top of this post for a short clip. Not too much queue space... will probably need an overflow area at least for this year We'll leave the workers at Windseeker so than keep working hard to get it up and running On to another area of the park that is surrounded by workers - Sledgehammer! Looks like this ride won't be up and running anytime soon Yikes... jacks to hold up the arms... interesting On to some other stuff around the park - almost all the food stands have new screens installed showing off their menus - looks great! Backlot Cafe got new signs too And some new menu items... We ate here... and it was excellent! A new game has appeared on the Thunder Run midway - and man was it popular! The Three Point game has it's home in American parks, but wasn't ever all that busy here. I'm guessing this Hockey version is exactly what will get Canadian's attention! See the video above Some new paint... Some more new paint... And now what you've been really waiting for... The area between Drop Zone and Dragon fire has been blocked off by this fence... ... and behind it the land is being prepped Markers on the grass heading towards Dragon Fire Markers under Dragon Fire itself... From the midway... Drop Zone's queue was significantly shortened as well, making more room in this area. Wonderlands original logo has made an appearance this year as the park celebrates 30 years Lots of merch with the old logo All thee wooden coasters, original to the park from 1981 - are sporting the retro-logo. A nice touch in my opinion. Edited May 9, 2011 by cwcoasterboy
imawesome1124
I love that hockey shootout game. Too bad American parks don't have them. I wonder what the land clearing means. It probably won't be an Intimidator, maybe some kind of family oriented coaster.
Philrad71
Thanks for sharing! I am definitely excited about the new addition! I agree...that hockey shoot-out might even be a game I would play, although I probably wouldn't stand to hit the targets any more than I would drain a three pointer in the basketball shoot-out! Hope more parks get these in the future. That's too bad about SledgeHammer's long history of being such a broken down piece of crap. I'm glad it was actually open and I got to ride it when I was there a couple of years ago. While it wasn't the most thrilling, it did have some nice stomach drop elements to it. Now that I have the Platinum Pass, I might go back up this year although I would have to visit on a weekend and the crowds would probably be horrific. Perhaps a couple rides on Behemoth and hit the water park for a few hours.

1pizza14
Great TR. Seems very interesting about the land clearing I wonder what they are doing. If theres stakes all the way under Dragon Fire could this mean the end for that ride? Also how has the Drop Tower queue changed? It looks the same

beatle11
Definitely looking forward to seeing what they are doing for next year. Some stakes are running right under Dragon Fire. I wonder if this may be it's last year.
robbalvey
This would have been a great update for the TPR Front Page had the images been uploaded to the site. Oh well, maybe next time...
mandy_Reeves
Suppose I was planning on vactioning in Canada....is Toronto pretty far from the US borders? This looks like a pretty fun place if I was ever to get up that way. Is it a destination type park? Like big enough to make a trip around say like in terms of a WDW or Universal? PCW_Nut
^ You are looking at about a 90min Drive from Niagara Falls to Toronto and then add another 20-30min to get to where Wonderland is.

It looks the same my guess would be a power line, looks like a substation back by the brown fence.
rollin_n_coastin
I'm thinking maybe the park's first Intamin? Drop Tower is an Intamin. So 'was' Jet Scream (even in pieces?) and we still have White Water Canyon. But ya, I hope so too! Thanks for sharing these, the park looks great. Google maps estimates the drive at about 1hr 47mins from the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls or about 2hrs from the Peace Bridge in Buffalo. 15 credits would definitely make it worth the journey from the border if you are close by. chemical_echo
I'll be there Friday for Math and Physics Day, after not getting to go to the park once last year it'll be nice to go again. Especially if this beautiful weather keeps up and the crowds are light.

Double0Kevin
I'm not hating on StarFlyers here as I have yet to ride one, but the Windseeker rides just look so much better to me. I'm talking the actual look of the ride. I'm not sure how to describe it, but they just look more bad ass to me. I kinda wish they had some decoration on the hub though, that is one place the StarFlyers win in my opinion. Can't wait to get on my first StarFlyer this summer (SFDK) and my first Windseeker (Knott's... if they ever build it).
CCG2
I have heard a circulating rumor lately regarding the 2012 project: It may be a B&M Floorless Coaster. I'm not sure if this means Dragon Fire and Speed City Raceway are getting the boot but i hope they'll stay. I still love me the Arrow goodness that is Dragon Fire, not to mention it's the only Arrow coaster with counter-clockwise corkscrews in exsitence. beatle11
^Dragon Fire was my first looping coaster so it would be sad to see it go. But if it was replaced with something new and exciting, I'll be happy.

I can remember those rumours being thrown around pre Cedar Fair even.

For some reason CF doesn't seem that interested in the floorless concept as they've only got two in the entire chain with Hydra & Dominator. beatle11
There was an old rumor, I believe in 2005, about a B&M floorless for CW, and look what came of that.
