paiging_jen
Robb: I hope they will let you film a POV at the New Texas Giant Bash, because I need a decent POV of this ride. retracked in steel wood coaster or a steel coaster? Let's not get into this again... Was the POV they posted not good enough? Looked awesome to me!

Was the POV they posted not good enough? Looked awesome to me! That's not how I meant my comment to come off. I'm sorry for being unclear. While I think that he footage that has been posted is very good, I'm just disappointed that the park didn't release a full front seat POV. That's all I meant to say. I can see how my original words were taken the wrong way though. Thanks to Robb for being there and reviewing the ride. Thanks for the footage that has been posted. Keep up the great work! ~Big-M
TPRrickard
I wouldn't count New Texas Giant as a wooden coaster anymore, now it's more like a hybrid coaster. But the coaster looks amazing! Without doubt the best hybrid coaster in the world! Great footage Robb! Rickard

exmouse
As a TV geek any idea why this cameraman had a monitor on the top of the camera? Did you notice what it was being used it for? I've never found myself wishing I had one one when there's a perfectly good view finder and a colour flip out screen on the side. It's bad enough lugging around the kit I already do without adding a bulky monitor. And yuck V Lock batteries, I much prefer PAG. And forget those sexy Gerstlauer trains I'm more interested in the camera rig. What is that to the left of the camera mount, was it a light, monitor or a radio cam transmitter? Sportsdude360
I'm on my way to the park NOW!!!! I'm giong to be among the first to ride this today!!!! I plan to stay late and get some night time rides in also!!! Look for my review later on tonight!!!
texcoaster
^^ the big monitor on top was so when they were doing in-station interviews, the people on cam had a monitor big enough to look at and ensure that they remained in frame. The object to the left of the cam in the other pic is an LED light. The first live shots were at 5am and it was still pitch black. The trains looked really cool zipping around in the dark with the lights on.

chrisdanger
Robb, smashing media day coverage even though the weather sucked...You guys whetted my appetite for TPR event day, eventhough they decided to install sneeze guards on the ride LOL.. I will throw in one thing: Id like to see the big skillets, which are normally used during Texas Heritage Festival, out year-round. Man that would be better than the junk they sell during the regular season, it's more Texan to me than selling chili-cheese dogs IMHO
RoCo
Script-logo on the lead car and TAIL FINS on the rear = MEGA-SUPER-HAPPY-SEX-WIN!!! I tip my ten-gallon hat to both Rocky Mountain Coasters and Six Flags for this amazing-looking retrofit. A new era has dawned.
COASTAH FREAK
That looks so yummy. Since I can't make up my mind between wood and steel, I'm just going to start calling it a stoodie coaster since it's really a mixture of both

Gnome
in the wood vs steele argument. Who cares.. why subscribe to labels? The ride is what it is, and the experience shouldn't be based on if its wood or not. That's like a crutch to not have fun. Enjoy it for what it is: a great looking attraction that Im no doubt going to have to go out to Texas to experience.
rollin_n_coastin
That is a great report, thanks guys! The ride looks fantastic and I'm really digging tose trains! The media event itself looks like it was really well done. How does it compare to others you've been to? Hopefully it's a sign of how important this attraction is and that things are getting better. Well for one the park is attempting to claim the ride as having the steepest drop on a wooden coaster. But yeah, otherwise this argument is pointless when it's already been pointed out a number of times what it is now.
robbalvey
Watching the video again, I realize that there are some REALLY funny (and some horrible) screen grabs to be had...so I pulled them out to show! First we just start out really enjoying the ride...bottom of the first drop...good stuff! Here is the OMFG moment of airtime...remember El Toro's first hill full of ejector airtime? Yeah, same thing here.... Immediately after that moment - your face will look like this... Still having a great time... This OMFG moment kind of sneaks up on you! I just liked this one because you can really get a sense of speed here. "Yes, it's true...Joey's penis is only this big." I like this one because whatever is going on here, it makes the rest of the world look warboley. HHURRRRR.... WE BE P-TARDED!!! HURRRRR!!! "Wait...I am downloading a message from space aliens into MY BRAAAAAAAIN!!!!" Reach envelope illusion FTW! Holy crap! DUCK!!!!! take the PURPLE DISCO TUNNEL!!!! And our final review of New Texas Giant (NTAG) - TWO THUMBS UP!!!!

texcoaster
It's almost as hard to see in the screenshot as it is flying by on the ride! That reach envelope pic is cool. Even though the angle of the camera makes it appear really close, the fact of the matter is that it is REALLY CLOSE. Not close enough to touch for real, but close enough to make you damn glad those windows are on the train! And speaking of clearances, how about that last overhead support in the 115deg turn that has a bite taken out of it to make clearance!
