larrygator
^Wow, Is it really that difficult to utilize the spell check built in to your browser? Â No it is not, and doalds wish has been granted as he has been banned. Â Now back on topic. I think any new thrilling ride at Playland is a great addition to the park. As far as park hours, that is certainly in the park's hands to perform a cost analysis to determine if additional hours are worthwhile. The park has to worry about increased overhead in the form or salaries and electricity cost. If the additional hours only result in patrons with a season or all day ride pass to sticking around longer, it is probably not worth the additional overhead costs to keep the park open. Crazy_Behemoth_Lady_Jess
A little update here. Playland is running a poll on their Facebook page asking what they should name their new ride. Atmostfear? Ripping off Morey's Piers? Then again, keep in mind this is a park that fails to come up with names that aren't overused or really cheesy sounding (Crazy Beach Party for the Frisbee and Hells Gate for the Top Spin). Â 1: Eclipse 2: Storm Rider 3: Cyclone 4: Atmosfear
Nrthwnd
So it's "Official" and the park is naming it on their site...  Atmosfear  Oooooooooo, chills and thrills, kiddies! (Actually, it probably will be for some of us, lol.)  I look forward to riding it and enjoying it.  In July.
Crazy_Behemoth_Lady_Jess
So they went with the Morey's Piers "borrowed" name. Just like how they used "Hellavator" from Six Flags 11 years ago. Â I voted for Eclipse on the Facebook poll and I kinda like the sound of Storm Rider as well. Those two names sound cool, but I think they'd be more suited for other types of rides. Nrthwnd
I haven't been near the park in months. Â And the new season is just a few weeks away (April 30th to be exact). Â Wonder if they've actually started constructing the base and such for this? Â And if it is indeed, located over where the Wild Mouse (and then the Sky Wheel) used to stand? Â Guess I will find out in a few weeks' time, lol.
Crazy_Behemoth_Lady_Jess
Construction photos have been added to Playland's Faceboook page. It looks like it's going to be built infront of where Breakdance is. Â
Nrthwnd
^ From looking at all the photos they posted - I'm pretty sure it's taken the place of where the sorry excuse of our bumper cars were, lol. Â Wonder if those get "bumped" (hee hee) ro somewhere else in the park? Or to gain a new attraction - do we lose an old one? Â Will find out this Saturday; finally, the new season starts! KingOfNynex2003
I just found out that my homepark (Playland/PNE in Vancouver, BC, Canada) is getting a Starflyer ride and I remember last year they brought it to the Fair during August and a part of September and it was a resounding failure from what me and one of my friends who worked there saw, so naturally they needed to buy it and get a bigger one at 218 feet tall. Â Anyways I noticed last year during the PNE Fair was that they had a maximum weight of 320 lbs. for the 2 seater, they told me the maximum weight per seat is 160 lbs which doesn't seem right to me because even though it does go a little bit faster than the Wave Swinger ride: http://www.flatrides.com/Ride%20Index/ZiererWaveSwinger3.jpg it has the same chains as the Wave Swinger and I've heard those chains are rated to support upto 9000 lbs. so why would they have a weight limit of 160 lbs. for this ride when even if a 400 lb. man goes onto it and the G-Force is about 4.5 which would make the guy feel like he's 1800 lbs which is way less than what the chains are able to support? KingOfNynex2003
Is it me or did they get rid of the Gladiator? That's where I remember that ride to be, and I can't see it anywhere in those photos, but I did notice an Enterprise car right in front of the Breakdance gate. KingOfNynex2003
Why are Theme Parks so obsessed with Atmosfear??? Â Last time I checked this is only the 3rd Atmosfear ride in the world, the one at Morey's Pier and the one at Liseberg and now this one at Playland. Oh and it looks like Enterprise is still there which is good because that's the 3rd best flat ride they have there, next to Music Express and the Pirate Ship. Nrthwnd
I was at Playland last Saturday, opening day for the park's season. Â Atmosfear sits where the bumper cars (they're called 'Scooters' on the park map) building used to sit, between the Pirate Ship ride and Gladiator. That's now been moved closer (south) to the Kettle Creek Mine Coaster. Â Gladiator is still in it's same spot, only the entrance/exit to it is now opposite the Breakdance ride, and not the other side where it was before. The construction fencing for Atmosfear has caused this change. Â Everything else is where it's been before, year after year. Only the Scooters changed location. Â And to the above ^^. I think that AtmosFEAR is a pretty good name for such an attraction. And as posted before, there's only what, three or four attractions in the world that have this name? Â Not that much of an "obsession," heh heh.
Nrthwnd
BUMP Â Was at the park today, and took a few pix of the Atmosfear site with my mini-digital camera. Â The weather was overcast. Cloudy. Icky-looking. Not great shots, but better than nothing, hmm? Sign on the construction fence, noting upcoming opening goodness, lol. The base, poking up over the construction fence. A shot taken a bit farther away from the ride. Taken from the ferris wheel - bits and piece of Atmosfear, ready to be put together. Still from the wheel, looking at the construction of Atmosfear. A better "overhead shot" of how Atmosfear's construction is going. One of the other signs near the construction fence. Opening July 1st!
Nrthwnd
Construction BUMP Â Was just at the park today, and got a few pics of what's been happening with AtmosFear since I was last there. Looks like the parts of the tower have been put together and are waiting for final assembly. Looks like the foundation has 'set'. Closer, better view of the foundation and the base of the tower. KingOfNynex2003
So where exactly is the Bumper Cars? I know that's where they usually are but I haven't been there this year yet. Also I'm really hoping they don't have the same outlandish weight restrictions that WCA had for this exact ride at the PNE last year which was nobody over 160 pounds is allowed on it which is completely ridiculous because each of those chains can support something like 9000 pounds of force and there's going to be 4 chains on each seat for a total of 8 chains so there's no reason why a heavy person like me shouldn't be able to get onto it, and besides, take a look at the Wave Swinger, even when I was over 400 pounds I still got onto it, sure it's not as fast as the Star Flyer but it's still made with the exact same chains as the Star Flyer. cal1br3tto
Do all StarFlyers allow single riders? It seems like they would, but I'd like to know for certain!

Knowing Playland they might make it so that you need 2 people in the thing but I'm pretty sure they won't do that because then people could be waiting a long time to get onto the ride. Nrthwnd
I spoke with one of the ride ops earlier today on my visit to the park.  He told me that this new attraction was the real start of improvements, upgrades and enhancements to make Playland a true... dare I say... themepark-like destination. Kool! And...we'll see, lol.  But - photo below shows where the BumperCars went. They are in that green and yellow-striped tent up in right top corner of pic? It's now located between the Kettle Creek coaster, and Hellevator. And the entrance/exit to Gladiator was put on the opposite side of it's footprint, now opposite BreakDance.  And I think they are possibly/probably going to have a single riders' line available. Not sure at all. Just a hunch. There's the Bumps' Tent! (o:
KingOfNynex2003
That's an odd place to put the Bumper Cars because you do need to be 48" to drive one of the cars by yourself. The again I remember they used to have a 36" height minimum for anyone under 48" to go on with an adult, I don't think they have that anymore though. Crazy_Behemoth_Lady_Jess
From what I remember, I think the bumper cars require you to be 48" to ride or drive.
Nrthwnd
^ and ^^ Who the heck is under 48" tall for this attraction??? Â Just checkin' here. Â And it's an "okay" kind of bumper cars....okay? Nothing I am going out of my way, to ride and re-ride again and again.

Nrthwnd
^ Oh, the Bumper Cars/Skooters are fine where they've been placed. Â And who knows? After AtmosFear opens in July, the Skooters could be re-positioned in another part of the park, hmm? Â Just sayin'. Afer AtmosFear opens in July, the Skooters could be re-positioned in another part of the park, hmm?  Just sayin'.  Yeah probably, but there's not many places you can place them anyways without reducing the parking behind the Corkscrew. Or they could just demolish the Corkscrew altogether and get a more compact coaster like a Vekoma Deja Vu coaster in its place
