Coaster101 2011 Attraction Awards

Recommended Posts

It's time once again for Coaster101's annual Attraction Awards! The Attraction Awards is, put simply, an informal polling where you are asked to nominate and then vote for your favorite parks and coasters in various categories.

This year, the categories are as follows:

1. Most Anticipated 2011 U.S. Coaster

Only new coasters please. Coasters that are being relocated will not be included in this category.

2. Most Anticipated 2011 International Coaster

As stated above, only new coasters will be included in this category.

3. Most Missed Coaster of the Past Decade

Only coasters that closed after 2000 will be included in this category. Coasters that have reopened at another park will not be included in this category. Coasters that are still standing but not operating will be included in this category.

4. Most Deserving of the “Rocky Mountain” Treatment

Which wooden coasters are incredibly rough and deserve the same Rocky Mountain treatment that Texas Giant is receiving?

5. Most Efficient Operations

Which park consistently has efficient staff, not only at the rides but at the eateries, parking booths, etc.

6. Best Use of Social Media

Which park has best utilized social media to connect with fans and bring them up-to-date information?

You can nominate by posting here or by using the nomination form. Multiple nominations for each category are accepted. Nominations will be accepted through Friday, March 18, 2011. The top ten nominations from each category will be posted in a poll which will open on Monday, March 21, 2011.

I hope that this year's poll turns out to be better than last year's.

I put in my nominations and really like the fact that the categories are a bit different and not your run of the mill "favorite steel/favorite wood," so on and so forth. Although for all we know right at this very moment, the Rocky Mountain Treatment could turn out to be a complete disaster.

^ Yes, Robb's suggestions were taken into serious consideration this year when planning the categories. The categories are a bit more specific and, as you said, unique.

How would the Rocky Mountain Treatment turn into a disaster? I think it's pretty straightforward—which rough wooden coaster is most deserving of a Texas Giant-style makeover?

I understand you're basing this off best-case-scenario, but one main thing we don't know is how well the New Texas Giant is going to age. Sure, currently everything looks as if it's going swimmingly, but for all we know the Rocky Mountain treatment could turn out to be a maintenance nightmare in the future.

That's like going back to the late 80s or early 90s and polling people on where they would like to see the next Dinn coasters built. After all, weren't Dinn coasters like Mean Streak and TG fairly decent rides when they were first built? But obviously not so much anymore. I know wouldn't want any new Dinn coasters built right now (yes, I know Dinn is defunct).

It's really a poll to determine which coaster is in the greatest need of a renovation. You're absolutely right - coasters with the Rocky Mountain treatment could fail miserably in the future.

Just a heads up: tomorrow is the last day to nominate! Voting will begin next week.
