A.J.
I've proofread the contest post, and edited it with some white text for our international users. The only problem I have is putting the game exchange attachment in that thread. I was able to merge Rudie's post into the thread, but that's as far as I made it. Whenever I try and edit the post, we lose the game exchange attachment and I have no idea how to re-attach it without re-uploading it. Edited March 14, 2011 by A.J. robbalvey
^ I think I see what you were trying to do with the yellow/white text, but the volume that's in there is actually distracting. I'm going to tone it down a bit...
A.J.
No problem - give me a few hours so I can get on my Mac (I'm on my mobile phone at the moment) and I can de-bold or recolor the white text. Otherwise, I think the post is ready to be...posted, except for the edit > lose attachment problem.

mcjaco
Remember the age demographic. Most kids are still in school, or just getting out. I'm hoping TPR sanctioned contests bring more seriousiness to the forum, rather than the usual contest nonsense.
robbalvey
Six downloads so far... I'm so hoping this picks up really fast, though- Here's what you have to remember - This first contest...don't expect it to be a smashing success. It won't be. And that's "ok." What is MORE important that this first contest being a success is that we keep doing them on a regular basis and get more people on board. If we make the contests fun, each time we do one, we'll get more people to play. Like if we get 5 people to participate in the first one, that's great. Next time, we'll get 7, the time after that we'll get 10, and then 15, 20, 30, etc.... Without sounding corny, projects like this need to be nurtured and grown. If you stop watering the plant, it will die. But it doesn't bloom over night. And regardless if we get 3 people or 30 to play in this contest, you HAVE to treat it like it's the biggest success ever. Because that kind of enthusiasm is infectious and will be carried out by others. That being said, we also need to do as much as we can to promote this contest and the exchange. We should always be encouraging people to post their tracks to the exchange, post about the exchange and the contest to their twitter, facebook, and even other sites. I just ask that we are very "clever" in our advertisement and don't come off as spammy. I mean, you see it all the time here where people will post something out of the blue just to get a link or banner in their signature posted, etc, etc... Anyway, back to the contest. I want you guys to keep these things in mind... 1. Don't get discouraged if not a lot of people play this first one. 2. Keep the contests going (we should actually start developing another one now.) 3. DO NOT GIVE UP!!! (TPR wasn't a smashing success overnight!) QueerRudie
I'm working on a few new RCT II challenges- perhaps for the next few in that category- and I'm thinking I'd like to ask a question of the MODs not only from the Games Forum- but also of the entire TPR crew... What rides (If you COULD have them) would you put into a 'Classic' park from the late 70s-early 80s? My idea is the next challenge will be built around this- and I'm looking for inspiration- of if you have something LIKE that- I'd like to see it to work on it a bit. R.D. robbalvey
^ Defunct rides, still standing, or both?
QueerRudie
Good question... I think (for now at least) I'd like defunct rides or SBNO rides that are in dire danger of being lost (Drachen Fire, The Bat). I'll also take pictures if any of some of the coasters- and if a layout of a ride is available that would be good for reproducing some of the defunct coasters.. I've already got The Bat pretty well covered- and some of the more modern defunct rides... but I'd also like some of the older ones, too- not just steel, but wooden rides as well. R.D. QueerRudie
To quote from some really great TPR Trip Reports of yore... Noted! Hmmm... QueerRudie
An update and where we stand so far: 11 people have uploaded their entries- I've been saving them to review their parks and take snapshots of each park for the final voting. My best estimate is we had 80 downloads (the counter says much higher, but I noticed a few people downloaded the park multiple times- There is an issue with the downloader that I think has to deal with certain operating systems; I'm working on that today.) Voting: I'm thinking of using the same system we've used in the past for the Prince Desmond t-shirt contest, etc. Each person could then vote for the three they like- and then it should be easy to see who's won from there. As for the Honorable Mentions: I'd really like to include some of these in the final vote- Some of the entries so far are -stunningly- good- and would make for a good example of what to do with the challenge. Ideas here? Wed. Morning, I'll make a general 'voting/download' post with all the parks that are in the finals (A snapshot or two, plus the 'download the park here' with each snapshot- that way we can continue to drive downloads for the park as we get votes- I think that could REALLY be a winner there for the exchange. Any thoughts here would be appreciated- as I'd like to make the next RCT II challenge even bigger- and I've already figured out a few things that worked/didn't work in this one. So far, I think the challenge carried well -very few complaints over it, and those that were there were 'general' stuff of people being fussy. I can't stop that... hehehe
QueerRudie
OK, the TPR Challenge I voting thread is setup; I re-did the pics for the parks (One overview, two closeups) for each park, and placed in-line download links to the coasters themselves- I figured this would be easier for people to download parks directly from the exchange. All points bonuses for the 13 contestants have been entered by the time you read this- I had to adjust nin's points as I had to do the upload of his park due to naming issues. I did my best to 'gussie' up the thread- that is, make it visually pretty- but if anybody wants to dress it up a bit, go for it- I'm still learning how to make these things look pretty and fluffy and nice- give me time. It will get better. Matt: Could you move the 'old' TPR Challenge I thread to the regular thread pile, and attach this up to the 'Announcements'? If it's possible, could we also move the voting thread up to the front page- I think we'd get some extra 'push' from that, too- I'm also sending a message to Krazekidd to put a tweet out tommorow for the vote, and again on Monday- I figure we can get the weekend traffic, as well as the next week traffic after that- Enjoy-

QueerRudie
A question for all MODS: I'm seeing a lot of complaints about fixed/rigged voting in the challenge. One of the members has been soliciting votes for his park- which I personally don't think is out of bounds myself, but there have been some issues with a few people over it. In the next challenge, i'm thinking stick to the 'one vote per member' system- but I don't think that will entirely solve the problem all around. Thoughts on this to appease the people? R.D. djbrcace1234
I'm not going to lie and say it is suspicious. 1. one of his friends (BEP) made a shameless plug in the contest voting thread. (he's also a close friend outside of TPR from what he has said in the past .) 2. His entry has a similar theme style as of Nin's, and nin's was posted first, two days before his. 3. I have indeed heard of him spamming the chat room, which is obnoxious as he did it to me as well. I mean, It's okay to rumble up troops for something, but does that make it the better submission? not really. Personally, I rather see something nicer, as this will be submitted to the front page, which is the image of TPR. Maybe I'm one that appreciates quality, but It amazes me how low people can get for something free. It's really something I find funny myself! A.J.
If I were a few years younger, I'd jump the gun and DQ everyone involved. But, as they stand now, the challenges are a work in progress. We need to learn exactly what our members will do to win and then find ways to restrict what is dishonest. I personally think it's funny what our members will do to get their hands on a bag of crap. I already have enough crap at home to build a coaster geek fortress!
QueerRudie
that's why i wanted some input for future purposes; I know the first change will be a single-vote per person for the next contest; I was attempting to get a 'first second third' idea of the voting- but it's almost going to require a single vote per person. I will say this: the person in question DID send me a PM saying that if it's felt that he's gone too far by asking for votes, he'd step down. I honestly don't think that's necessary for this event- I didn't post it was illegal to do so (stuff the ballot box) in the rules. He's agreed not to do it again, but I think for future purposes we'll have to put that into the rules- Speaking of future contests: I was thinking the next challenge should be NL based. I've got a pretty good idea of the storyline and basis for it- but I have -no- idea how to use the terrain editior to make a base land for the challenge to begin with. THe idea is that the Crazy Park Manager in the previous challenge wants to enhance his park with a new Arrow coaster- and has some specific elements he wants used. (I.E. 2 loops, a sideinder, and a double screw, plus a helix of doom). If somebody knows how to build a nifty landplot for it, I'd appreciate it- as if I put one up that I've made, it will get laughs- not contestants! A.J.
Actually, if it's all okay, I would personally like to take the reins for NoLimits challenge presentation. I kind of like the idea of alternating. That way, the person who's not working the current challenge has enough time to come up with the next one. Also, I like the idea, and I'll make a terrain plot too. Seems simple enough. I'll have time on Tuesday to start on it. I'm in EPCOT all day today (at least, after a few hours of sleep). mcjaco
Live and learn. I'd say stick to one vote per contest from here on out. We've had people create multiple accounts in some contests to vote for themselves (or someone else) before. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you QR. This weekend turned out to be a total time eater. I didn't even turn my PC on.
