What coaster should get the next Rocky Mountain treatment?

Recommended Posts

Even though I love the ride, GASM at SFOG would make an EPIC hybrid.

YES please! They keep it looking like brand new (paint), but I'd rather have a ride that felt brand new. The last 2 times I was there, it seems to have lost it's old funloving *kick*.

SFOG getting a RMC woodie as a new coaster would be even better though. (especially if Ninja is destroyed to make room)

Yes! This too!

^Hahaha! I'm glad to have seen the "kidding" before I remembered what thread I was looking at. I would have fallen off my chair

I'm still thinking that Colossus at Magic Mountain is pretty high up on the list. I am liking the rumor about restoring one side to it's original glory with only topper track, while making the other side an insane Iron Horse reprofile.

I like this idea! But they would have to go with 3 bench PTC trains on the "classic side" (well, hybrid side). Those 3 benchers really give the extra torque that makes those so popular.

HURLER at Carowinds. Though thats probably not going to happen since they are retracking the drop during the offseason.

They retracked the drop in 2011.

It is the first banked turn that is getting redone in the off season this year.

GA Cyclone. Out of all the Six Flags parks, SFOG is one of the few to not feature a new wooden coaster or hybrid from GCI, RMC or even Intamin. Let's see:

SFOT: NTAG

SFFT: IRat

SFGAm: Goliath

SFGAdv: El Toro

SFMM: Apocalypse and Iron Colossus

SFStL: American Thunder

SFM: Medusa: Steel Coaster

SFA & SFDK: Roar(even if they aren't the best coasters)

Point is, only SFNE, La Ronde, and The Great Escape are the only three other Six Flags parks that don't have a wooden coaster from these three manufacturers. At the very least, convert all the track to Topper Track, give the coaster new trains from RMC, and turn it back into the insanely fun ride it supposedly was before it was neutered by Six Flags..

Iron Colossus hasn't even been announced yet, and even if it is it will be at least another year before it's official.

American Eagle at SFGAm is also an Intamin, just to mention...

Personally think the Monster at La Ronde is deserving of an RMC redo. It would be similar the iron colossus idea, but I personally think the layout seems better for such a conversion. It would be the first double tracked RMC (beating cedar fair in the process.. Gemini), could provide some cool head choppers with RMC's co supports, and be Canada's first hybrid coaster (Again beating cedar fair, as they've failed to RMC anything yet and I don't see "Rocky Mountain Mindbuster" happening until SF does something in Canada with RMC).

Topper Track on American Eagle at SFGAm. Great structure in need of a modern roll.

As someone who rides Eagle multiple times a month I can tell you that the only places it really needs topper track are in the final helices. I mean you might want to put some in the "Giant Helix o' WTF Were They Thinking To Put This on a Racing Coaster," but it's kind of funny to see the trains shaking and bouncing their way around it before they just go balls out on the return run.

Saw the link to this thread in the SFMM thread and thought I'd give it a MAJOR bump. Here's what I'm thinking. While it's safe to assume it may still be a few years down the line, which coaster at each CedarFair park do you think is the best candidate for being RMC'ed. Also, if CedarFair announced one park was getting a ground up RMC, which park would you expect to see it at?

I'd expect Rob Decker and associates to choose topper track rather than I-Box. Stay true to wood.

CP: CCMR...... I kid. Mean Streak, of course.

KBF: Ghost Rider, by default.

CW: Mindbuster Big park, big coaster.

KI: Beast. I'd love to see what Schilke came up with for the second half of the ride.

KD: Grizzly, I'd imagine. Seems to be the one in worse shape.

Carowinds: Hurler, I guess. But it'd be interesting to see what Alan could do with Thunder Road.

CGA: Grizzly, naturally.

DP: Tthis would be my candidate for ground up. I don't think anyone could argue that they need new wood.

WOF: Obviously Timberwolf.

VF: Excalibur. I'd elect for I-Box here. Added length and inversions are what's needed to save it.

MiA: Wolverine Wildcat's layout could be very interesting if RMC'd

What do you think?

Well, the really rough coasters need at least topper track and off the top of my mind I think that Mean streak and Ghost rider need it the most, best names I can come up with are Iron Streak with an inversion add somewhere, preferably a zero-g roll would be able to fit in well but in the uk I can't really think of any that are in desperate need of Rocky Mountain treatment as all the coasters in blackpool are classics and Megafobia is the best wooden coaster we have but I must admit I am looking forward to the Gravity group woodie at Tayto park if it goes ahead.
