The SETGO Guys
Kennywood!  Kennywood is an amazing park, So much History and some of the greatest coasters every (Great Upkeep) So anyway....I was in Pittsburgh (the main purpouse of this trip was for my dad (who loves baseball) to visit a Pirates game) Btw I hate baseball  I decided to go with him so I could visit the ETC at Carnegie Mellon (Randy Pausch-Last Lecuture...look it up!) and his best friend had promised me for years to take me to KENNYWOOD! So it was a great trip  I also want to share some pics of the city too...Pittsburgh is a great city...even I who am not a sports fan loved the sports section of the city! The Whole city is clean and has some great musuems (The Heinz center has the old Racer Cars in the lobby!)  A few notes about the City- -City's official colors of black and gold -Even the Theme Parks get into sports which I found cool!   SOME PICS! Great Looking Building! Love that the Gym is above the Mcdonalds! Mr.Rogers Is from Pittsburgh....(Can you say Coaster) I'm Press!  KENNYWOOD TIME! -First off Thank you to the Kennywood Press Dept. for the wonderfull tour -I got to go Backstage at Skyrocket! So were start with that!  ~SKYROCKET~ The first 1/2 of the ride is great! The Second 1/2 of the Coaster is just lacking on thrills....The first half has amazing airtime and it is def a great coaster!  Some Pics! So My Press Guide opened the gate and say "Go in and get some better pics" Its a great Coaster to get pics of! I only had to wait 5 Mins for my with my Press tour! Lol Running among the Trees! INSANE AMOUNT OF AIRTIME! 1/2 mark....where the ride tapers off NO ZOOM USED! It looks like an X-Car....but its not... BTW-They only run 2 Trains on this Coaster.....and it still has a great Capacity! Skyrocket Sign....You can see the Old Mill Behind it! Racer in the Backround...Skycoaster in Foreground! Skycoaster is an added Cost...I did not ride it! THUNDERBOLT!  ~THUNDERBOLT~ -There is a reason this used to be #1...It Def made my top 10...WHAT AN AMZAING COASTER! The lift comes about 1/2 through the ride....and the biggest drop is at the end. -Some history -Originally built by John A. Miller in 1924, the ride's name was Pippin until 1967, when it changed to Thunderbolt beginning with the 1968 season, coinciding with an expansion of the track. - The Thunderbolt still uses the 1958 Pippin trains manufactured by the National Amusement Device Company, known as "Century Flyers."  Some Pics! This is halfway through the ride! From the Station! The front of a Century Flyer! Beautifull trains Everything is Yellow and Black.... Pittsburgh Colors!  ~Extermintator~ -Coming from Disney and being Spoiled by theming- I was surprised by the quality of the ride! Fun Ride and the Longest wait of the day at around 30 Mins.  ~The WHIP~ -A TON OF FUN! A great Classic that you don't see anymore and I loved it...Rode it three times -One great thing about the park is unlike florida there is no idiotproofing- (I.E- Saftey Gates, Nasty Ride ops yelling) Which I loved coming from Disney!  The Staff is very friendly and fun!  More pics! SPLASHDOWN! Shoot-the-Chute ride named for the brief period in the 1890s when Pittsburgh dropped the "h" from its name. The Whip....Look at that machinery! Loading-Last one of its Kind! A fun trackless Dark Ride! Ghostwood Estate Auto Race- Another Last of its kind ride!  Kiddieland -I found it really cool how old the rides were -THANKS KENNYWOOD FOR PRESERVING EVERYTHING! -Yes, I did credit Whore the Kiddie Coaster Lil' Phantom-It looks really cool I must say! Lil' Phantom is built in the style of classic coasters manufactured by Allan Herschell The Ferris Wheel- Named after the great George Wheel! Built in 1924- So Cool how its still standing! The Ferris Wheel- Named after the great George Wheel! Built in 1924- So Cool how its still standing! Mini Whip!  ~Racer~ Another John Miller Coaster -Not as great as Thunderbolt or Jackrabbit -Its more like a step up coaster -BUT STILL FUN -SOME HISTORY The ride is a Moebius track Riders commonly reach over and touch hands of riders on the other train during the ride. -Unfortantly nobody wanted to give me a high five Again Great Upkeep for being built in 1927 The Facad! The Winning Strech!  ~JACKRABBIT~ AMAZING-WHAT A GREAT RIDE -Ride in the back-The Double dip is amazing! History Built in 1920 -Coming down off of its second hill, the track levels out briefly half of the way down, then continues downward — a double-dip drop. The speed of the train as it enters this second part of the drop is so high that the riders are given the impression that they will be thrown free of the train! Artsy Shot! Sign! I have no pics of the Double Dip Kangaroo -Yes you get airtime on this ride  ~Phantoms Revenge~ Different in the front in back! GREAT AIRTIME A GREAT COASTER-A TOP 10 FOR SURE! -History Built in 1991 Originally named the "Steel Phantom". The coaster briefly held several records such as the largest drop on a roller coaster (228 ft) and the fastest roller coaster (82 mph). After the 2000 season, the coaster was heavily modified by D. H. Morgan, including the removal of all of the inversions due to complaints of pain given during the ride (head and neck aches, bloody noses, etc.) and was then renamed the "Phantom's Revenge." -The Second drop is bigger than the first!  Pics Nice shot to show the height! The whole park is a terrain park! Cool Sign  ~Old Mill~ Garfields Nightmare -Hopefully it will be changed back to its historical roots! -Spoiler-The Press Dept.Told me this was true! But I'll give it one picture Exterior looks really cool -Whens the last time you think this was EVER filled? Ok...maybe 2....but only because the boats look really cool! GET OFF MY LAWN!!!!!  Some Final Pics! It's so photogenic! The Turtle-Another last of its kind! From The Heinz Center-The Old Racer Cars! My Favorite Picture! Thanks for reading and Goodnight!  HOPE YOU ENJOYED IT!  Comment if you want!  THANKS, Zachary
Jerrykoala2112
Kennywood looks like a fantastic park! It seems to be one of those parks that will never lose it's charm, huge praise for keeping a lot of the old classic rides. Â And me being the boring self, I have yet to experience any sort of back stage tour... Never got evacuated off a ride or any sort of thing like that... Sky Rocket does look totally awesome though! I'm surprised you said that it dies off towards the end of the ride because I have heard that it has some really nice airtime on those bunny hops. All is well though, because Premier is still designing and making great rides! Â Thanks for sharing!
Geauga Dog
Sky Rocket does die off after the corkscrew/flatspin. The wavy track does nothing for the ride and there doesn't seem to be as much speed on the bunny hills. I do agree that the ride does have amazing air time on that top hat. That was a big surprise. The SETGO Guys
Its time for a Mini Update from Zach! -So in Physics we've been studying amusment park physics...I've been snapping some photos during class of Coaster Layouts that we view.... -And The book is really outdated so apperantly on Physics day I'll be able to ride Python! Â Anyway Here are some pics!u.bmp A map of Gwazi A map of Montu
LoopLover
Sky Rocket looks really wacky.....especially the cars!  Good way of referring to Cheetah Chase! Makes me laugh! ha ha ha  Great TR!
The SETGO Guys
COASTER ENGINEERING EXPEDITIONS! BGT Physics!  Friday was Physics day at BGT...while it was a short trip I did manage to get a few things accomplished... -My Physics work (the most important) -Cheetaka Construction Photos -Ride Rhino Rally (With a new storyline)-More about this later...  Lets Begin -We were let into the park about an hour early....our first stop was Montu-SHE WAS RUNNING AMAZING! Back row... unfortunately every other physics kid decided to ride Montu...so I had to settle with one amazing ride! -Really it was probably the best ride I've ever enjoyed on Montu ever! Montu was amazing! My favorite B&M  Next up we had to get some measurements from Cheetah Chase....not to be confused with Cheetaka or Cheetah hunt -Cheetah Chase is a Mack Wild Mouse (Or Wilde Maus as Cheetah Chase used to be called) -Usually CC has a really long wait...but surprisingly it was empty....We were able to stay on for 3 trips to get our measurements. No Line-Usually a long wait for Cheetah Chase Corkscrew Photo...Check You could wait an extra 2 hours to view an accelerometer  It was quite frigid out...so what ride was next....measurements on the log flume! What a great idea! -Luckily nobody was in that area so we were able to stand around in the station and get measurements and in my case photos! Log Flume Controls! OLD SCHOOL! The log flume was built in the 70's (1973 to be exact)  Next was supposed to be Sheikra....but a 30 minute on station operation canceled that idea... -I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH OPERATIONS ON THE COASTERS!  a quick ride on the Phoenix (Most boring ride ever) then time for a oldie but a goodie -SCORPION -This old Schwarzkopf was not running that great...but I still love it anyways -Loren however does not...SEND YOUR HATE MAIL!!!!!! Tight Helix-Great G-Forces!  The Highlight of the day was surprisingly Rhino Rally! -There was no wait...which was awesome -The ride lasts about 5 minutes now, but we got a extended version because the drivers both times I rode were awesome! -There is a new storyline about finding a lost driver/car....Drivers didn't seem to like this idea...and poked fun at operations for putting a storyline in -Also where the turnoff for the water portion used to be the missing truck (and the construction workers cars) are blocking the turnoff as well as an ad for Cheetah Hunt...the guides mentioned and talked about Cheetah Hunt Rhino Rally- Now with 100% Less Vekoma The White Rhino is an Endangered Species and here is its Endangered Feces! "This animal over here is called the African Prison Pony" We actually had to sit and wait for 2 rows to fill up before we could be cleared for dispatch... WE FOUND SCOOTER! THE MISSING DRIVER! (Or to Cheetaka Construction workers...take your pick) Cheetah Hunt/Cheetaka Sign in Line for Rhino Rally  Ok now time for the Cheetah Hunt Update! Construction Site Looking Good! NOW OPEN....Go See it! Because I won't be!  and then it snowed So Yeah fun day.... Comment if you have any questions or if you enjoyed the report  THANKS FOR READING! I love hitting this...a real head chopper... Last one...

aimster
Yeah I noticed yesterday that Gwazi is still slow as hell loading. They had 2 trains running all day one was already back at the station before the one ahead of it was even dispatched. But the lines were short. It was odd because actually the Lion side always seemed to have longer lines than the Tiger side (Tiger was practically a walk-on, even for the front row the 3 times I rode - Lion had like a 10-15 minute wait for the front row). But those awesome new trains totally make up for that. Â And amazingly, I have never done Rhino Rally. Every time I go the wait is posted as at least 30 minutes, so I always skip it. Maybe I'll finally do it when I go again in a couple weeks.
ABW
Trains are looking great. It's about time for Gwazi too. Thanks for the TR Zach! Â Alexander
ebl
Â That element on Cheetah Hunt has to be the weirdest looking thing from afar. It'll be interesting to see how it is to ride. Â One thing I've always wondered---is Cheetah Chase a clone of Mulholland Madness at DCA? It wasn't there the one time I was at BGT, but from all the pictures I've seen, it sure looks like it. Â You guys are doing some great reports. Keep 'em up! Â Eric
The SETGO Guys
is Cheetah Chase a clone of Mulholland Madness at DCA?  Yes it is a standard Mack Wild Mouse (Wilde Maus)  http://www.mack-rides.com/en/products/coasters/wild-mouse/c-wm-info/index.html  and Rhino Rally Should Deff be checked out! Its a fun ride...wouldn't wait more than 5 mins....but it hasn't had a wait since the Water portion was removed  -Thanks for all the posotive comments --Zach Edited July 28, 2011 by The SETGO Guys
ebl
We rode Rhino Rally during our visit and I got to sit in the navigator's seat. To be honest, that is an interesting attraction, but for some reason I've never had a yearning to ride it again. Â Eric
The SETGO Guys
SIX FLAGS GREAT ADVENTURE! PART 1 of 3  (This first part will be regular park photos, I'll post my salute to The Dark Knight ride soon!)  Park Hours for Wednesday, July 27th, 2011 10:30AM - 10:00PM  Admission Prices- General Admission $59.99 Junior Under 54" $36.99 2 & Under FREE ______________________  The day began promptly at 10:30 with this (not so) little ride that goes by the name of KINGDA KA! WOW! I went into this coaster pretty relaxed expecting a launch along the lines of Rock'n'Rollercoaster. I was so off! That launch is really intense! The upwards climb was more fun IMO than than going down, the Bunny hill provides a nice ending to the ride, that I really liked. Now, this ride needs a refurb! It rattled like crazy. Since I did this within the first 30 mins of park opening, I enjoyed a 5 minute wait! I don't think I'd ever wait again in a line over that for KK. Its a fun ride, but is to intense for repeatability. (And I have a really high thrill tolerance!)  The Official Ride description "The fierce Kingda Ka is the tallest coaster in the World, fastest in North America. This remarkable thrill ride breaks all world records for coaster speed and height, zooming from 0 to 128 mph in 3.5 seconds and catapulting you 45 stories into the sky."  -Get propelled horizontally at 128 mph via hydraulic launch -Hang on tight as you shoot 90 degrees into a quarter-turn -Blast 456 feet high, then plunge vertically into a 270-degree spiral -Experience weightlessness as you swoop down a valley and up a 129-foot camel hump   Kingda Ka Skyline Loading station-The station is dual loading, they were running one side. However 3 train operations were great! Another Overview of the Station taken from the exit ramp. Train in position for launch!  A short distance away from Kingda Ka the next coaster- GREEN LANTERN Green Lantern was a pleasant surprise! I really didn't go in expecting too much. (In fact I was under the impression that a Stand-up Coaster may be painful to the lower region of my body) However the ride was really smooth and fun! In fact I even grayed out a little on some parts (I've never grayed out on a Coaster before) I think if Six Flags put in a bit of landscaping (Other than the weeds growing in the asphalt underneath the coaster) the ride experience would be a bit nice and maybe seem more intense.  SCIENCE NOTE- To determine speed (in your head) the eyes of a human will lock on to an object and calculate how fast you are seeming to go based on the amount of time it is in your vision.  The ride fits in pretty well in the area, with Superman as its next door neighbor, its located in a small mini-land themed to Aviation. (The Green Lantern was supposedly a Pilot.....I don't really know) The whole Green Lantern area looks like something out of Rollercoaster Tycoon 2. (Which is really cool!) I ended up waiting about 45 mins for Green Lantern. The ride crew was awesome! One thing I want to point out about this ride. IT IS NOT NEW!!!!! It was a used coaster, (not that it matters)  A little History from Wikipedia-- It was originally constructed at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville, Kentucky in 1997, where it was known as Chang. The ride was removed in 2009, and debuted at Six Flags Great Adventure in 2011. The ride would received a DC Comics Green Lantern theme, to coincide with the Green Lantern movie that came out in 2011.  The Offical Ride description "The new GREEN LANTERN stand-up coaster delivers a smooth, white-knuckled adventure – but this time standing up while upside down! A GREEN LANTERN must be someone who has the ability and willpower to overcome great fear. Stand up to your fear on this 15-story ride of twisting green steel."  Green Lantern really fits into the Skyline well! "STAND UP TO YOUR FEAR!" ....Wait I'm supposed to be scared? Green Lantern kept the two trains it used when it was Chang at Kentucky Kingdom. A third train was taken from Riddlers Revenge at Six Flags Magic Mountain, California. (Think of it as revenge....Riddlers Revenge at SFMM took records from Chang when it opened.)  Next we took a small walk down the Boardwalk area of the park to the "Plaza Del Carnaval" area of the park. This area features 3 rides (2 Coasters, 1 Flat) . One of them being the BEST RIDE/COASTER in the park IMO. Whats great about walking in this area of the park is you can get a great pictures of the parks two Intamin Coasters, El Toro and Kingda Ka.  I call this area of the park INTAMIN-LAND!  The Boardwalk Midway area. The parachute tower, I think was moved from my last visit to make room for Green Lantern. It also looks like it got a new paint job! INTAMIN! (I keep my Intamin Lanyard with me at all times, to show my love of Intamin....if anyone has a B&M lanyard that could compliment it....(Or if they exsist))  Taking a break from Intamin land we head over to a Dueling Wooden Coaster manufactured by William Cobb & Associates in 1979. ROLLING THUNDER!   Last time I rode Rolling Thunder Last time I rode rolling(around 3 years ago) I found it very rough and unenjoyable (So much so that I only rode one side) However today it ran much better, with most of the ride being somewhat smooth. Now I had forgotten which side I had ridden since my first visit (I didn't ride it on my second visit) so I decided to be safe....I needed to ride both sides. Now this ride is not even close to the word popular, and it takes FOREVER to dispatch, I really don't know why! The crew moved pretty fast, each time I rode....I chose the wrong side. First time I rode there was a 2 train wait. Someone had just threw up. It took 4 dispatches on the other side to clean it up. Finally we get on, No airtime, nothing to exciting. UNTIL, I spot some cars sitting off next to the coaster track. It was some Arrow Looper cars! A closer look at them showed that they were from Great American Scream Machine! One of them had the wrapping, one of them not wrapped. One my second round (There was a small bottleneck created in the station so I had to wait a few trains in the line) I double checked to see if they were really the train.  I walked around the queue a bit and got some pictures of the trains, and as a bonus I found the Mine Train cars under refurb too!  Rolling Thunder Station! The ones on the left are still wrapped! From the Queue of Rolling Thunder you could see some mine train cars getting some love! BUZZBARS! (For those of you unfamiliar with the....from the name you might get a bit of an idea of how they work!) Station Shot- Six Flags has been doing a great job in the upkeep of this ride! Thanks!!!!  (As a joke- If Six Flags was ever to change the name of the ride would be to change it to "Rusting Thunder" or "Rotting Thunder")  SIX FLAGS and all related indicia are trademarks of Six Flags Theme Parks Inc. ®, TM and © 2011. ®/™ M&M's, the letter M and SNICKERS are registered trademarks of Mars, Inc. and its affiliates © Mars, Incorporated 2011. ©2011 Discover Bank, Member FDIC © 2011 Wm. Wes
DO NOT POST ONRIDE PICTURES!!! It doesn't matter if the ride operator said it was okay, it is against Six Flags policy to do so. Also, you do not officially represent TPR, so don't use the site as an excuse to try to get photos you shouldn't be getting. It ends up giving the site, and Robb and Elissa, a potentially bad reputation. Edited July 29, 2011 by Wes
