Parasitic Extirpation/Artificial Brain/Pyrrhon/Gigan in Holyoke, MA. The members of Parasitic are my homies and they killed it like always, and Gigan also lived up to their usual standards of quality; the vocalist that they had on this tour had a ridiculous set of pipes, and Eric Hersemann's guitar playing is always fascinating to watch. I've desperately wanted to see the other two for a while now, and neither of them disappointed me in the slightest. Pyrrhon was particularly amazing; watching the instrumentalists play ungodly technical and complex yet completely deranged-sounding material while Doug Moore was busily shrieking his head off like a man possessed was something to behold.

Went and saw Freeman play in Cleveland last week at the Beachland Ballroom.

For anyone familiar with the band Ween, this is front man Gene Ween's new band after he disbanded Ween. The new album is great and it is good that he was able to get himself sober and produce some more really good music.

The show itself was great as he intermingled some old Ween tunes with plenty of stuff from his new album. It looks like he has retained a sizable cult following from his days in Ween as the ballroom was pretty packed and just about everyone was singing along to the music!

The last concert I attended was a free Pentatonix concert at the Mall of America back in February. I got out of school all day for it, got to sit front row, even got to meet them. Sure it was pretty short because it was free, but it was easily one of the greatest days of my life.

In a bit of a break from what I normally see, a friend and I ventured back to Toronto for a night of power metal. We saw Amaranthe and Within Temptation who both put on a fun show. I'm normally not into power metal, but I enjoyed myself and had a good time, which is all that matters.

Here are some photos

"Weird Al" Yankovic last June at the Meadows Casino and Racetrack in Washington, PA. As always, he put on a fantastic show. We were dead center and close enough to the stage to get a really great view of his audience interactions. He came within 15 feet of us! It was pretty amazing.

I tried to get tickets for the Paul McCartney show in Pittsburgh in June, but they sold out before I could get one.

Internal Bleeding/Pyrexia/Jungle Rot/Kataklysm/Suffocation at the Webster. IB started things off with a fantastic, energetic set that Pyrexia later built on (also, the new kid that Pyrexia had on vocals was a monster). I sat out the next two because I'm not a particularly big fan of either, though I will say that Oli Beaudoin from the latter was a beastly drummer. Suffocation, meanwhile, lived up to their usual standards of excellence, though Frank was surprisingly light as far as his famed stage banter was concerned; they mostly just stuck to the music. All in all, it was an amazing show, and I hope to see more New York death metal-centric bills like that in the future.

Last night, I once again answered the call of the Gjallarhorn and saw Amon Amarth for the fifth time. In support were Skeletonwitch and Sabaton. I love all three bands (Amon Amarth being probably my all time favourite) so I had a fantastic night.

Skeletonwitch only played for 30 minutes, which was kind of a letdown, but what they did play was pretty good. It had been a while since I'd been to a death metal show, and this set really reminded me why I like going.

I'm fully convinced Sabaton is one of the best live acts out there. Every time I've seen them, they put on a great show. Also, the Toronto crowd LOVES them, so that really helps. Either way, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing them again next summer at Wacken.

The last time I saw Amon Amarth, they were at Mayhem Fest and only played a 30 minute short set. So, it was great to have a full hour and a half of them this night. After six years and five concerts, I finally got to hear my favourite song, Fate of Norns played live. No matter what else happens in 2014, that will be my top concert moment of the year.

Make a point of seeing Suffocation when they hit Toronto in November. They probably won't have Frank on vocals for that one (Ricky Myers from Disgorge will be doing a good portion of the tour), but Ricky did a fantastic job on the one song that they had him do, and they're still one of the tightest, most energetic bands in the game after all these years.

Anberlin in San Francisco, the Farewell Tour. Their last ever concert in California. It was a truly amazing concert and very emotional for me. I got pictures with all the band members and autographs. I sang every song and screamed my lungs out and ended up partially losing my voice (which doesn't happen to me very often, I can scream like there's no tomorrow and my voice stays strong). Anberlin is an amazing band and they've been there for me through a lot. I have many wonderful memories connected to Anberlin albums. I'm really going to miss seeing them but at least I'll always have their music and the memories.

It was a folk metal night last night, which is the best kind of night. A friend and I once again made the trip to Toronto to see Metsatoll, Tyr and Eluveitie. As I've mentioned before, I am a massive fan of folk metal and will never pass up an opportunity to see it in concert. Also, Eluveitie is my all time favourite band, so there was no way I was missing this show.

Metsatoll started out a bit rough, it kind of sounded like they couldn't get their timing right. But, they quickly pulled their act together and put on a fun set. When the pit eventually opened up, it was one of those friendly ones where everyone links arms and headbangs together. Such is the power of folk metal.

Every time I see Tyr, they just keep getting better. The first time I saw them many moons ago, I actually left early I was that unimpressed. I don't know if their setlists are getting better or if they're just better musically, but I really enjoy these guys now.

I'm a huge Eluveitie fanboy, so I was absolutely guaranteed to love their show. And of course, I did. They played a lot of stuff off their newest album, Origins, that but that is to be expected. I was pleasantly surprised to hear some stuff off Everything Remains as it Never Was though. That album doesn't get nearly the amount of love it should.

I finished my 2014 concert season on Tuesday night with one of my favourite acts, GWAR. After Oderus died earlier this year, I thought I would never see them again. But happily, I was proven wrong. The new vocalists, Blothar and Vulvatron were fantastic additions (though Blothar was actually the original Beefcake the Mighty). Like last year's show, I managed to get a spot front and centre. This of course meant I was completely soaked in fake blood by the end of the first song.

The entire show was based around "where did Oderus go?" and trying to find him. When Blothar finished singing his first song, the other members said "wait..who the f**k are you?" with Beefcake saying "I think I've seen you before" as an inside joke. At the start of their encore, there was a very touching memorial to Oderus where they carried out his sword and made a memorial out of it. The crowd took that very seriously too as a respectful silence fell over the crowd.

As always, it was a great show. The band is in good hands with the two new singers and I look forward to seeing them again.

Machine head and Darkest Hour last month in Barcelona.

Got to meet the band beforehand and got my ticket signed. Also caught a guitar pick at the end of the show. Really enjoyed it, and I've never really seen a band enjoy playing a show as much as Machine Head that day.

I'm surprised they didn't cancel on you. I may or may not still be bitter about them cancelling their entire North American tour this year.

When they cancelled the US tour, I think pretty much everyone in Europe was expecting them to cancel the EU tour as well. Really enjoyed it though, especially the Maiden medley they played.

My next shows are Slipknot, Korn and King 810 in January and Download Festival in June. As you can tell, I don't go to many shows.

Went to the Foo Fighters surprise show for Dave Grohl's birthday at the Forum last night. The show was incredible, they played for over 3 and a half hours and had Paul Stanley, Tenacious D, Slash, Alice Cooper, Zakk Wylde, Perry Ferrel, Trombone Shorty, Nick Oliveri, David Lee Roth, and Lemmy from Motorhead there as guests. Their setlist gives you an idea of how crazy the show was! http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/foo-fighters/2015/the-forum-inglewood-ca-5bcab724.html

Last night marked the start of my 2015 concert year. Coincidentally, it started the same way 2014 started with Dark Tranquility! Primalfrost, Valfreya and Insomnium were in support.

I ended up loving Primalfrost. How have I not heard these guys before? They were very skilled and put on a great display of fast guitar solos. They're probably the best "random local opening act" I've ever seen at a concert before.

Valfreya as always put on a good show. I can never complain about hearing viking/pagan metal. Their lead singer is one of the few women who can do growly vocals well (the other being Masha from Arkona). They also did their awesome foam sword wall of death bit again. Basically, they toss out a bunch of foam swords into the audience and start a wall of death. It's way more fun than it should be.

Insomnium put out one of the best metal albums in 2014, Shadows of the Dying Sun, so I was super pumped to see them live. As expected, they delivered a great set that got the crowd very excited.

Dark Tranquility is one of the leading voices in melodic death metal and it was nice to see them again. They played a good mix of older songs and stuff of the "new" album Construct which they've been touring for since last year. They didn't play my favourite song, but I was still pleased with their set list. I definitely look forward to seeing them again this summer at Wacken.
