Oktoberfest 2010 Preview

Hello Robb,

and all Oktoberfest visitors.

We are german ClubTPR Members and we live next to Oktoberfest.

We show you some construction pics of the Oktoberfest 6 days before opening.

This year is a special Okotberfest, we celebrate the 200th one

and the Oktobersfest is bigger as normal.

There is an extra area with nostalgic things

and it is the last year of the Olympia Coaster.

The beer price for one Maß (1 Liter) with a little tip is 9,00 Euro.

With this metro lines you arrive the Oktoberfest.

U4/U5 Station Theresienwiese

U3/U6 Station Goetheplatz (2 minutes to walk)

S1/S2/S3/S4/S6/S7/S8 Station Hackerbruecke (5 minutes to walk)

http://www.mvv-muenchen.de/web4archiv/objects/download/5/schnellbahnnetz_2010.pdf

On both Tuesdays is the family afternoon with special cheap prices for the rides and food,

but not for beer. This is between 12am to 6pm.

More info:

Don’t rent a car, there are no parking places in the near.

This year the smoking law in Germany has changed

and now it is forbidden to smoke in the tents of Okotoberfest

and the underground metro stations and all Restaurants/Bars.

Generally is smoking forbidden for persons under 18 years.

But all persons over 16 years can drink unlimited amount of beer.

Change a lot of money before you enter the Oktoberfest,

because normaly only cash is accepted and on the ATM are long lines.

It is better to leave the Creditcard in the hotel,

so you don’t lose it or somebody steal it.

Only two metro stations away form Oktoberfest is the Station Marienplatz.

Here is the original Hofbraeuhaus next to the Hard Rock Café and the real fine dining at Schuhbeck.

If you go from Munich to Europapark by car or train, you can make a stop at Stuttgart.

There is the second biggest fair in Germany and there are other coasters.

This is called the Stuttgarter Wasen and it starts one week after the Oktoberfest starts.

OMG. Habe ich das falsch verstanden ? Are you kidding / trying to scare me and a lot of European coaster enthusiasts when you say it's Olympia Looping's last stay at Oktoberfest ? What do you mean ? Is the ride being retired off the German fair circuit? Or JUST off Oktoberfest ? I got luck and rode this wonderful creation several times at different German locations (Düren Fair) and it was love at first sight, like for lots of Anton loopers, actually. But what I fear is, this coaster might be bought by some US company who might scr*w it up forever. And I'd really be sad to see that happen. Has anyone ever heard anything about the faith of this marvel ? If ONLY My homepark could buy it (and maintain it properly), it would definitely put it on the map ! Please let this coaster stay in Europe (preferably close to me lol) and if it really has to go overseas, I pray so it goes to a park which really DESERVES it and will take care of this beauty

^LMAO ! I have to admit my "home park" may not be the best choice. Bellewaerde however, has been coaster starved for ages... Bobbejaanland would make good use of it too. (I even remember a "recreation" of the Olympia Looping had been considered before they decided to invest in their Typhoon Eurofighter) That would have been an iconic replacement to the already iconic looping star !

That has been the rumor for a while now, and is probably a big reason why they chose to do the Oktoberfest trip this year.

MaBi - how well do the people at the other beer halls in Munich speak English? I know Hofbrauhaus will be full of English-speakers, but what about some of the smaller, lesser-visited halls? I know enough German to order a beer, but would love if I could fall back on English

Don´t be scared to go to other tents. The most germans understand english and can speak a few sentences and if you get in trouble, you already have your hands and foot to communicate. In the worst case, this will happen to you

The german ordered for them a beer, but for himself, too. He acts as if he translated what the Japanese said When he gets asked why the Japanese wants 3 beer instead of 2, he told that he don´t know why... he doesn´t speak so good Japanese to know why

There will be also many international visitors in other tents than in the Hofbräuhaus tent.

^ I was speaking, more specifically, about the regular beer halls in the city - not the tents at Oktoberfest. Places like Weisses Brauhaus, Hackerhaus, Augustiner Bräustuben, Andescher am Dom, Ayinger am Platzl, and others. I figured the tents would be good, but I'd love to visit some other places to get more of a variety of beer!

I´m not a specialist for munich, but I´m surrounded by two famous cities with good beers, especially one of them is well known for

=Düsseldorf and Cologne

I guess, it will be similar to the "Rheinkirmes" in Düsseldorf or some other events in cologne and so on... you won´t be the only person who will be interested in that, so you will meet there international guests, too. Like here, it will be very filled at the funfair, so the ones who don´t get a place in the tents will leave at some point and walk into the town area to visit there the bars.

And like I said before, many germans - especially the younger ones, until the age of 50 or so - can understand you a bit or more to talk with you. Some persons would tell you they can´t speak english, but that´s more because they are afraid to make mistakes or have forgotten some vocabulary

If nothing works... you still have your hands and feet to communicate

These are tourist places and I think there is englisch no problem.

I must say I do seem to be getting a bit excited for our Oktoberfest Trip! Plus the fact that I'll get more credits on this short trip than all of the other TPR Trips this year combined!!!

Hello SharkTums,

how do you count the credits for Oktoberfest and other fair?

My count is without fair.

I count every coaster only one time as well I ride it often and only coaster.

Is this right?

Are you on the Trip with Robb?

Wenn you tell me on what day and circa time the group is on the Oktoberfest,

I look forward to meet you.

Elissa,

everytime I read about the Oktoberfest here, I get depressive! I wish so much to meet you there and tried to get some free days off work, but it didn't happen. I have the whole next week until friday Night Watch at work and thats very difficult to change. But I will be at Holiday Park on saturday to ride Expedition GeForce are you going there too?

Maybe I will have a chance after that to join you for one night at the funfair. Would you please be so kind and mail me the schedule for saturday and sunday? So I will try to do my best to say "Hi!" to you and some other participants of the UK and Europe Trip.

If it won't fit... Have fun everybody and keep care of the beer!

Whoop

Can't wait. I Shall be at Oktoberfest for 2 days next week. Assuming all the attractions are open what would people suggest not to miss.

Olympia Looping Apina Bahn are a given really but anything else a must see? There seems to be so much there and to be honest i am not entirely sure what quite a few of those rides are

I will be at Oktoberfest on Sept 28. Thanks for posting the pics to give me a preview of what to expect.

I'll be there as part of a group tour, but we are doing Oktoberfest on Tuesday. I'll check the hours of operation for Monday, if the tour program for the day ends sufficiently early, hopping a train over for a night before preview might be a good idea.

For those of us (me) unaccustomed to the German way of fairs - from what I gather there is a sperate ticket booth for each ride, and you pay in cash. Last I heard, I can expt around 5 Euro per ride, is that still a good estimation? Any pointers, like protocol, etiquette, that kind of thing when it comes to the rides? I have several of the iKirmes DVD's and I've noted they usually don't have fencing around their rides, but I assume there is some sort of established queeue for who is in the next group.

Also planning on hitting a beer tent or two. We have a Hoffbrauhaus in our city, and asof last month the Mass of beer there was $7.75 (+ tip), just as a point of price comparison, though that wasn't at a big fair which is sure to raise the price higher.

Camping & Coasters 2010 sets off Saturday morning and we'll be catching a few parks as we travel down to Munich. We'll be there Wednesday evening and all day Thursday and Friday but Wednesday evening is all about my 400th Coaster and Olympia is going to be a nice one to have as a milestone.

See you there

yes 5 Euro are right (form 3 to 7 Euro).

Olymipia Looping costs 6 or 7 Euro

Beer in the tents 9 Euro

On Thursday afternoon are lower prices.
