Ever been on a coaster when it broke down (got stuck, etc.)?

Recommended Posts

I got stuck on the Coney Island Cyclone going up the lift. Apparently one of the top notch ops forgot to lock one of the restrains in place. I also got stuck on the break run on Skull Mountain at Six Flags Great Adventure. We were stuck for about 15 minutes with the lights on in the mountain. It was actually pretty cool

Two years ago, my friend and I were in the back seat of Beech Bend's Looping Star (only ones on the train) and as we hit the last turn right before the brake run, our train didn't make it up the hill, and slowly rolled back down. We went back and forth around the turn a couple times, and finally it came to a complete stop. Scary, funny.....weird! lol

Have you ever get stuck on a Roller Coaster, on a ride or even on a Test Seat????? Yes? No?

If yes, how were you feeling at that moment? How long you were stuck and where was that? And do you even have a photo of it?

That happend to me:

I got Stuck on the "Swingolino", a self operated ride which spinns vertical and the seats are swinging. That ride is located at Atzmännig in Switzerland, a little park where you pay per attraction.

It happend so:

A boy and I, we went on it. It was working well but then it stopped nearly at the top. We thought it was finish and it will go slowly down but it didn't moved any more!! A few minutes later a man who works there came and then he made that the ride goes slowly down. But because the ride-programm wasn't finish when it stopped, he took some money and let us ride again without paying a second time!!

It was kinda funny and for the othes on the ground it was also funny! We were stuck less than 5 minutes!

I don't have a photo of it

Only time I've ever been stuck was on Superman at Six Flags Great America. We were stuck on the brake run in the flying position for about 15 minutes. It was legitimately difficult to keep my head up, but when I didn't, all the blood would rush. So I had to alternate. On the plus side, we got a free skip the line pass for our suffering, which we all of course used for Goliath!

I got Stuck on a Test Seat!!!!!! It was the test seat of Karacho at Tripsdrill. I went on it to take a picture. I seated on it, pulled the lap bar down, my friend took a picture of me and then I wanted to open the lap bar, but it didn't worked!! There was a button to open the lap bar and I pressed it but it keeps closed!! After a few minutes a mechanic came, but he didn't managed to open it, so he had to call a electrician. I had to sit in the test seat for 20 minutes!! And the others were laughing on me because I'm stuck in the Test Seat!!

We wanted to go on the first ride of the day but because I can't go we had to go on the 3rd ride of the day.

Ive had something like 130 individual coaster rides in 2014 and only was stuck once on the break run of Superman: Ultimate Flight of all places. Issues with the train dispatching in front of us. The worst place to be stuck. It was only a little more than 10 minutes but we were at one point informed we might have to be evacuated. They sorted whatever the issue was and we were able to return to the station and they lowered the seats. It could have been worse but still sucked!

I've never got stuck anywhere I thought that sooner or later I would but maybe I'll have to ride a few more coasters/rides.

The only experience I've had which resembles being stuck was when a water ride at Parque de Atracciones de Madrid stopped at the top of the lift for no reason, but it was only for 2-3 min.

I got stuck on TTD when I went 2 Sundays ago. I was in the front seat on the 2nd train in the station. We were cleared and the 1st train did its thing. After the first train cleared the tower, we were supposed to move but we didn't. We were sitting for a few minutes. Then we moved forward, then stopped, then moved backwards back onto the transfer. I looked down by the storage are and saw the control panel flashing red. Then a few minutes later, it did the same exact thing. The passengers behind me were starting to panic. Then we finally moved farther than we did those first 2 times, and the ride did its thing.

TTD was amazing in the front seat & at night! After we got off, they closed it down for that breakdown, and high winds.

I was stuck on the Green Lantern at SFMM when my family was visiting on a vacation. I know way back when it first opened it had a problem with locking the car back into place once it was going into the station. Long story short, the cart kept going in place and then releasing itself probably about 20 times. It was weird, because after the fourth or fifth time the speakers automatically told the queue lines the ride was experience a technical difficulty and would reopen soon. It wasn't too long of a process, probably around ten minutes.

Last year the platform on Delirium at Kings Island wouldn't come up and it forced us to sit on the ride for about twenty minutes. I have never in my life seen so many managers from the park standing all around and interacting with the guests. Some of them even fooled with the panel trying to get the platform up before maintenance came. Kings Island's response was awesome.

And finally, after waiting all of my life, I got stopped on a lift hill. It happened right after opening on GateKeeper one morning in July. Some smart person decided to get their phone out. I credit the ride operators for their attention and quick response. And while some people were yelling at the ride operator as she came to get the phone, I was happy. It was nice to see them keeping everyone else safe when it comes to idiots pulling out their phone. We were probably about 2/3 the way up the hill, and the whole process took about five minutes.

The only interesting stuck story I have is from Flashback at SFNE this year. We broke down on the lift hill and were stuck about five minutes before maintenance came and ran us through the course. The GP on the train were the angriest people I've ever seen. They kept yelling at the ride ops and the managers for "forcing them to ride something dangerous" and that Flashback should be torn down. One of the guests had to be escorted out of the park by security for trying to fight one of the ride ops. All of that craziness was because of a small computer glitch.

Countless breakdowns but I wouldn't consider any of those be stuck on a ride.

this past weekend I got the coveted rollback on Volcano at Kings Dominion. Unlike dragster or kingda ka it can't be backed up into the station so we had to be evacuated off since they won't do another launch with people on the ride.

My best "stuck" story is 3 friends and I were on TTD and after our launch a computer glitch happened so when we hit the brakes no trains had left the dispatch station. We only ended up sitting on the brake run for about 10 minutes then normal operation resumed. Nothing to eventful.

I was stuck on Wild Thing at VF this year for about 8-10 minutes at the top of the lift hill but it felt longer just because we were 'stuck'. Also got trapped in the final break run this year for 5-10 minutes on WIld Thing also because the other train would not dispatch. Thankfully that it all they were. Tough year for WT this year. The only other time I was stuck on a coaster was on Raptor during morning ERT for about 20-25 minutes as the 2nd train in the station after we came in from a run (at least we were not the 3rd train stuck at the mid brake). I felt sorry for that group because they did not get anyone up to them for about 15 minutes to give them the news, at least since we were in the boarding area they were able to come out and talk to us and let us know what was going on. I am slightly claustrophobic so if it lasted any longer than 30 minutes I am sure I would start to get real uncomfortable. Then there was a time on Maverick (morning ERT again) but I don't know if I would call it 'stuck' but it felt like it. Trapped 15-20 minutes on a train right at the starting point locked in and had the thumbs up to be dispatched when they stopped it because they had to clean up a car behind us because someone blew their morning breakfast all over the place. Amateurs!

Lucky!!! I've been dying to get the Volcano rollback. Was it in the morning? With the momentum it gathers falling down, does it roll back all the way to the station by itself or does it slow down and use tires in reverse to drive it back to the station?

I got stuck on the Revenge of the Mummy in Orlando for around 25 minutes near the beginning. We ended up going through the ride with the lights on/no effects. When we got off they signed a card that allowed us to skip the line when we came back to the ride. We were able to use that card to skip the lines of every other ride which was sweet, as they kept handing the card back (instead of taking it, like they were suppose to). When we finally went back to the Mummy at the end, the same guy was working and took the card

This was back in 2007, we were able to do every ride, at least twice within a few hours. The people working the lines were not familiar with the card, so it might have been something new at the time? Worked out well for us.

I am apparently very good at breaking rides since I have been stuck on many different rides (My group from Mini New Hotness can attest to this )

Last weekend I was stuck on the final brake run on California Screamin for about twenty minutes before maintenance came to let us out.

I have been stuck on the first lift hill of Thunder Mountain at Disneyland for 45 minutes before we were evacuated.

Stuck of ET in the home planet scene for about 25 minutes before they got the ride running again.

Pipe Scream at Cedar Point, the platform would not raise back up after the ride cycle

Stuck on Demon at SFGAm at the final brake for about twenty minutes in the hot sun while the restraints were digging into my shoulders

Tatsu during WCB 2013, the train started moving out of the station and then stopped, luckily I was on the second train that this happened to so maintenance was already there and they just switched the ride into manual and sent the train

And all of these except Thunder Mountain have been within the past year and a half (and there is probably more that I don't remember)

I've been stuck several times on rides, but usually it has been relatively minor (and occasionally operator induced). However, there are a few times when I've needed to be evacuated from a ride:

-At Disneyland, I was on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride when one of the doors broke (specifically the one following the train crash). We were taken off the ride and walked the whole ride in reverse to get out, stopping along the way at each car.

-At DCA, I got stuck mid-ride on Goofy's Sky School and had to exit the car and climb down a ladder to return to the station.

-During the TPR LeviaThon trip, we had a rainy day at Conneaut Lake Park but they kept Blue Streak running for our group. Eventually it got so wet that the brakes couldn't stop the train, so we shot through the station and stopped on the lift. For whatever reason, we were not allowed to walk back through the tunnel to the station, so we had to jump from the lift to a maintenance platform, climb down a rickety ladder, then run through the mud under the coaster to get back to the station.

My train on Revolution (at SFMM) stopped right outside the station as we were coming back. They said the computer showed some kind of an error. We sat for about 5 minutes, and they took my name along with a pair of Japanese friends in the seats behind me. I asked if we could get exit passes, but they said only if a mechanic came and got us out manually. So, of course, right after I gave my name to the RO, the error code clears and we return to the station!
