darklingscribe Posted September 8, 2010 Share Posted September 8, 2010 If you can, try to seek out a copy of Titicut Follies a truly disturbing 1967 documentary about the conditions of a Massachusetts Hospital for the criminally insane. It's all true and it was banned in the US till 1991 because the Massachusetts filed an injunction to keep it from being shown. They claimed it violated the patients' rights even though the director got the permissions of all the patients and/or their guardian. The director said they wanted it banned to avoid the public outcry against the facilities and the state boards that ran them. Once seen it isn't hard to see who was telling the truth. Any chance of the film of your 2008 Behemoth Trip puppet show? I saw the end of the Human Centipede on youtube, didn't look like fun, I'm still trying to get it out of my head. jynx242 Posted September 14, 2010 Share Posted September 14, 2010 So, I finally watched Takashi Miike's Imprint. It was very strange, and definitely had some difficult to follow moments. It was more sad than scary to me. The main torture scene was relatively disturbing, but I think the last 10 minutes are actually the worst. I found myself feeling sorry for the characters for the entire last half of the film, but I only jumped twice. It was definitely a different kind of horror than I am used to. I am not sure if I liked it or not, honestly. It was quite interesting, and the imagery was incredible. I loved the use of colors, and all the symbolism (Eg. The pinwheels on the side of the river). The different stories were also intriguing, as I couldn't really figure out what the "truth" actually was until the end of the movie. ---Antonio "looking forward to watching Audition!"G. Sounds like you kind of feel like I did. The most disturbing part to me what the fact that I was actually freaked out by some of the scenes. I thought I was WAY too jaded for that. Also - the fact that it is absolutely gorgeously filmed makes what is happening on the screen that much more intense. I think you'll like Audition from your review of IMPRINT and I'm eager to hear your impression of it when you see it. ^^ Tyler - from what I've heard about "A Serbian Film" I don't know whether I'd watch it or not. After watching Daniel Tosh's "Spoiler Alert" on Human Centipede, I can't help but laugh at that movie, but it's still disturbing as all hell. I haven't seen it but am judging all over you for having done so . I'll probably watch it and stay in the closet about it. I'll send you a private message if I do. Sheesh, I just read the plot summary for that... how is there a market for that kind of thing? What studio exec watches that and says, "Yeah, this is something I want my name to be attached to." I find the Exorcist disturbing to this day, it is such a powerful vision of evil. I hear Salo just came out on DVD today after having it's censorship ban overrturned, I don't think curiosity will get the better of me on that one. downunder Posted November 28, 2010 Share Posted November 28, 2010 I watched Pan's Labyrinth last night, there is some quite nasty stuff in that, a great film though. I also finally caught No Country For Old Men, Javier Bardim was brilliant, every time he was onscreen I felt uncomfortable, he slam dunked it for the Oscar - I reckon he gave Hannibal Lecter a run for his money is the scary stakes. I read an interview with the guy who made Serbian Film in Empire and he was going like that what it's like in Serbia. I checked out parts of the film on Youtube (the whole film was there except for the middle part which youtube removed), it was so shocking I couldn't believe I was actually seeing what I was seeing, not nice at all. Audition, it really stretched the boundaries of what you'd let a girl get away with because she's hot. I have been curious to watch The Human Centipede, but my friend just watched it. He's a horror movie buff, and he had a hard time getting through it. Yep that's the one, at least it was a cut above regular torture porn, which is a genre I don't really like - other than this I think I've only seen the first SAW and Hostel. One that really disturbed when I was little was the Tobe Hooper adaptation of Salems Lot, after I saw the first vampire I had my eyes covered the whole movie, they were the most bada$$ vampires ever. the ghost Posted December 1, 2010 Share Posted December 1, 2010 There is a series of movies in a series called August Underground that are universally known as being the most messed up films ever made. I was going to post a synopsis(I refuse to watch the film after reading the synopsis) but Jesus Christ... I am literally sickened by reading it now. The movies (at least the first one) are considered to be very good among HARD CORE horror fans, but I am not touching this one. According to the synopsis we've got pedophilia, infanticide, and tons of other messed up things... Once again I will not watch it... EVER. The most disturbing film I personally have ever seen is Ichi the killer, which is an incredibly sadistic although somewhat awesome action movie. I love the whole Yakuza aspect, and although the gore was INSANE the fight scenes were pretty awesome and the storyline with Itchi in general was very interesting and disturbing. I also need to throw in a shout out for Very Bad Things. It is not nearly as gory and disturbing as other films mentioned... but it is classified as a comedy, which is what makes it disturbing. There are just some things that people should just not laugh at, and a lot of the issues brought up in the film should just NEVER EVER be viewed as funny. I've heard of August Underground, I hear their videos are quite popular with Australian Customs. They love to take packages from the US with their videos and not give them back.
