^Nothing tops Tyler's puppet show (sponsored by Red Bull) for shock value.

Salo has just been unbanned in Australia which has created a political furore, I've seen some shocking films but I don't think I'll watch this one. I don't need to see 13-16 year olds being raped, tortured and killed to work out fascism sucks and people can be real a$$holes.

Some of the shockers I've seen:

Baise Moi - a French version of Thelma and Louise, except with actual explicit sex and some not super graphic but extemely disturbing violence (still banned in Australia).

Caligula - Helen Mirren, John Geilgud, Malcolm McDowell, Peter O'Toole what were you thinking? Rome under Caligula in reality was probably much worse but this is still pretty bad (still banned in Australia).

Cannibal Ferox - I was numb for three days after watching this movie, schlocky but revolting (banned for 25 years in Oz).

Last House on the Left (original) - not as explicit as today's torture porn, but far more impactful with bizarre comic interludes (banned for 25 years in Oz).

The New York Ripper - a really bizarre film, part unintentionally hilarious, and part wince inducing murders.

I can't believe I forgot IMPRINT by Takashi Miike.

Truly - not for the faint of heart. I watch TONS of horror films and am used to just about everything...but this one had me hiding my eyes on SEVERAL occasions.

Once again, Hostel. But I saw the Diary of Anne Frank: The Whole Story and that was just... Horrible. A great movie, but just disturbing at what disgusting acts humans are capable of. Its made even worse by the fact that those acts actually happen. And, I watched it at school. People were breaking out crying... it was chaos.

Just watched Food Inc. last night. It was scary in that it shows the control that Big Food has over us. Big Food gives us the illusion of choice, it harms our earth, and it harms us in the end. It made me rethink the way I eat. It was disturbing but I think everyone should watch it and think about it.

Henry : Portrait of a Serial Killer - was pretty bad, it didn't even have to be particularly graphic to be extremely unpleasant. From the point of view of the killer(s) the entire time.

Maniac - the 80's slasher movie, very gruesome though ingenious Tom Savini special effects, really grimy downbeat movie, I wanted to take a shower after seeing that.

Ilsa She Wolf of the SS - still banned in Australia, part campy, part Nazi torture - why did I see it, of course, banned in Asutralia. It was like Hogan's Heroes meets Hostel.

I'm a big chicken when it comes to scary/disturbing movies. I try to steer clear of gore. That being said, I haven't seen the majority of the movies listed (or anything on their level). But of the movies I have seen, the one that disturbed me the most was Pet Cemetery. I absolutely will never watch that movie again.

^ Supposedly Alexander Aja (one of my favorite horror directors - High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D) wants to remake Maniac. I'll have to see the original. Sounds good.

After seeing High Tension (which had super tension) and Hills Have Eyes, all I can say is BYO barf bag, those were seriously violent movies, that decapitation in High Tension, ewwww.

FYI, Manaic is coming out on Blu-Ray later this year. Yes the movie is very creepy and nasty, but it is really well made.

Some of the Most Disturbing Movies I've Ever Seen:

Rob Zombie's Halloween - It's a good movie, but the deaths are sooo grisly. I loved it, but you have to admit, anything Rob Zombie will scar your mind.

House of 1000 Corpses - Probably more disturbing than Halloween!

The Hills Run Red - Just don't watch it!

Obviously the only movie that is disturbing is Disturbia!

I am pretty mmune to gore and most torture porn new and old, but I think my all time favorite "Disturbing Scene" is in the Strangers. When she is in the kitchen and the guy just shows up in the Backround, no music, no sound, nothing. Probably one of my all time favorite scenes in a horror/thriller movie ever!

^ This is true. Ichi the Killer and Audition come to mind. IMPRINT was a Masters of Horror episode. It is only like an hour long, but Sweet Mary F$%^ it was uber-violent and disturbing. I've seen a lot of gore and even torture porn, but wow - this one even had me covering my eyes.

See this if you like Takashi Miike - well worth the rental.

So, I finally watched Takashi Miike's Imprint. It was very strange, and definitely had some difficult to follow moments. It was more sad than scary to me. The main torture scene was relatively disturbing, but I think the last 10 minutes are actually the worst. I found myself feeling sorry for the characters for the entire last half of the film, but I only jumped twice. It was definitely a different kind of horror than I am used to. I am not sure if I liked it or not, honestly. It was quite interesting, and the imagery was incredible. I loved the use of colors, and all the symbolism (Eg. The pinwheels on the side of the river). The different stories were also intriguing, as I couldn't really figure out what the "truth" actually was until the end of the movie.

---Antonio "looking forward to watching Audition!"G.
