triggernel
During the Geauga Lake trip, was the waterpark open? My inner Coaster Boy can't wait to see the coaster parts tomorrow!
thrillrider
Yes. I took a lot of those shots from the water park. Actualy, it was the only reason I went to the water park.
thrillrider
I have another geauga lake bundle. First I have an old sea world ohio booklet from 1995 I have also included a geauga lake booklet and map from 2005, and a wildwater kingdom map from 2008. All that is missing is the wave pool. Seaworld 1995. I think it was the last year for sea world. Seaworld info. Dolphin cove...new for 1995 And here are some of the post cards I have. Freestyle music park. I never had the chance to make it to this park. Inside Park map.

Philrad71
Dave - don't let the lack of responses discourage you from posting. A lot of posters on the site prefer to argue about new paint and what parks "deserve" versus commenting on history and content. Besides, would it really make you feel better having dozens of people post comments like "looks great I wish I could have vistied"? Keep on posting! Dave...I agree with Larry - don't let the lack of responses discourage you. I noticed the same thing when I first started doing trip reports that people were way more obsessed with arguing about restraints, new rides and designs, certain big-name parks, ride rumors, etc...while that's all fine and dandy, it kind of takes away from the site concept of posting actual reviews and photos. Yeah, I admit that it was kind of upsetting to go to great lengths to post what you feel is a nice photo report only to not even get as much as a comment. It does happen at times though, but it doesn't bother me as I now have just as much fun posting the photos and trying to come up with goofy captions as I do reading people's responses! I really do look forward to posting my trip reports on here and enjoy being at the parks trying to come up with some unique views and photo angles that may have never been posted before...not an easy task, but a fun one that I enjoy trying to do! Again...awesome job. I am really enjoying the old photos of these parks. Great memories although I am still ticked about not getting to GL for Oktoberfest! FAIL! froggypheebs
Thanks for this great thread. I enjoy looking at nostalgia stuff from parks almost as much as visiting them. I never made it to Geauga Lake and didn't get to CP till 2007 so all of the old brochures and pictures you have here are fascinating to me. I look forward to whatever else you have in store. ajc47
Wow Thrillrider, you have more GL pics than I do. And I grew up 20 minutes from the place. Good collection, though I agree, very depressing.

thrillrider
I am at the bottom of the first box.I found a buch of unused fast passes on the bottom of the box. These are from Disney land, and Disneyworld. A lot of times, we would grab a fast pass and end up eating or going to a differant attraction. A few more... BobloLives
I do have 1 picture of boblo island after all. OMG that was my first "big" coaster -- I miss Boblo. Wonder whatever happened to the old dark ride there? They tore it down long before the island closed.
atem122
Wow, I hadn't clicked on this thread until now, and I have to say that you have a pretty damn impressive collection of pictures. I absolutely love all of the old stuff from CP and GL, I hope you still have more to come!
cprocks22
What is a surprise Fastpass? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I'm guessing its a "present" where he got a fastpass for Pooh, and they gave him the surprise one for Mickey's Philarmagic at the same time. Just my guess. cwcoasterboy
I'm hoping these fastpasses didn't end up in your box at home because of the time stamp. Hopefully everyone knows that fastpasses don't expire as long as you use them on the day they were issued. It was a trick I learned a while back that has served us very well on our disney visits. thrillrider
Thank's for the replys. The fast passes were just never used. A lot of times, the ride was a walk on, or we had dinner reservations and our plans changed. In this update, I have some pictures of Hydra construction, whirlwind at knobles, and some pictures of six flags great adventure pics with some kingda ka construction, and rides that are no longer there. As a bonus, I found a picture of viper at six flags atlanta. The next buch of pictures will be a behind the scenes tour of the beast and flight of fear at kings island. We start out with some hydra construction. You can see the lift starting to rise. Lots of pieces. The turn to the lift was already built. The jojo roll is not yet there. Rain and construction crains. The crazy cars were removed for demon drop. Viper at six flags georgia. I really liked the theme of this ride. The line went thru a swamp. Whirlwind at knobles. I think it got relocated over seas. By time I got there, it was dark. Now we make our way to jersey. This ride will be on the "rides of the past" list soon. Waiting in line for viper. Just like psyclone at magic mountain, one ride on this death trap were enough. Still there, just has a differant name. I miss the teepee. I think this was called taz twist or something like that. One more shot from great adventure. Kingda ka pieces start to arive.
saginawhxc
My first coaster ever was The Nightmare at Boblo Island. This is easily one of the best threads I have ever come across. Thank you very much for taking the time to post all of this Dave.
thrillrider
Next up, a behind the scenes look at flight of fear at kings island. It was a great tour, and we got to see what they did with the old king cobra trains, and the retired flight of fear trains with the otsh. A little later, I have a behind the scenes tour of the beast. Enjoy... First we had to go over the rules... We then made our way to the flight of fear exit ramp. Unload controls We then made our way deep inside the ride. These are the fins that stick out the side of the train. Without these, the train would not launch. The maintanance guy explained to us that they are made from a rare metal that cost's a lot of money. It was very dark in there, so it was hard to get a good shot of the spegetti bowl. Geez...the least they could have done was run a sham wow around before we came. Spare coaster parts. Here are the trains that were on flight of fear when it sucked monkey butt. King cobras ride cars collect dust. Watch your feet.
thrillrider
My first coaster ever was The Nightmare at Boblo Island. This is easily one of the best threads I have ever come across. Thank you very much for taking the time to post all of this Dave. I remember when they first built nightmare at boblo. I can still see the comercial in my head. That ride is now at joyland park in texas, but is an outdoor ride.
thrillrider
The behind the scenes beast tour. I have been on this tour a few times, and it's still one of my favorate walk backs. Anyone ready for a behind the scenes look at the beast? The lift hill. Geek shot. A look back at the brake run and station. A train right above my head. Under the lift hill. Awwwww Not shure what this was for. The tunnel of doom. First drop. In case there is a fire. This is what the bottom of the drop into the helix looks like. Looking under the beast's skirt. Into the helix of death they go. Not sure what these are. The second lift hill motor house. Noted.. Trying to be artsy. The trim brakes on the first drop. I want to destroy them. In case you have to reset the camera, you need to look here. Another one of those things you just don't know what it was for. Random ladder. A train full of happy riders going to the lift. Nuts and bolts everywhere. A look over to the eifel tower. Inside the second lift house. The train was a blur. The top of the tunnel. This is where the coaster reaches high speeds. Still a blur. I am touching the wooden beast. awwww The park was kind enough to feed us after the tour. We got to eat in the restaurant above the main gate. Lots of food to be had. This place has not been redone since the early 70's. Remember the episode of the brady bunch where they were at kings island? Well this is the same board room used in the show, and not a thing has changed since.
B-RadG
I am absolutely loving all of this nostalgia. It's really sad to see Geauga Lake in the shape that it's in, especially since it was once such a great park. Beast is my favorite wooden coaster and those shots of it make me one very happy camper
thrillrider
Thanks. Yea, geauga lake is in bad shape. I still don't understand why they did not try harder to get that park to work.
jamesdillaman
Businesses are about profit. If it wasn't turning a profit, there is a lot more pressure to stop the money pit... It obviously wasn't doing well when Six Flags bought it or they wouldn't have sold it, either. It just wasn't a viable property after Six Flags put all those huge rides in to try and compete with Cedar Point. On an unrelated note, I worked at the Beast in 2003 and I remember on slow days we'd be allowed to sometimes just walk around the Beast woods watching the trains go by. It was a summer I'll never forget working there...
