Alton Towers Discussion Thread

P. 235: "Toxicator" top spin announced for 2025!

Recommended Posts

^ I don't think the removal of Oblivian will "destroy" the park, It is a great ride, but I don't understand the whole noise thing. I remember walking to the park from the hotel via the woodland path, and I couldn't hear a darn thing. I couldn't believe how quiet the coasters were when they were running. I mean I was right next to the coaster and the sound was so minimal to begin with and with all the trees around I don't see how you can even hear the coasters. I don't get it...I really hope they lose this case, because Alton was such a beautiful park. I enjoyed it so much if I ever go back to England I would make it to that park for sure above all the other parks in the UK.

Take Care,

Casey

I want to hunt down the owners or suppliers of hearing aids and get the Soprano's gang to put them out of business. Perhaps then, they won't have any trouble hearing (the noise) then.

The situation is similar here too. These gated-type communities and such really have some strange clients. I really think they are "drama queens/kings" that need to get in touch with reality instead of coming up with ideas and plans to generate (superficial) media attention.

This really isn't anything we've all heard before. I think several instances are like this all across the US also, but not reported as much.

1. Kingsmill (next to BGE-some people that really need some "drama" in their lives).

2. I think I could add Dorney Park, but I'm not familiar with the history of that park. But, isn't the nearby Amish people always complaining about noise and took Dorney to court several times?

3. There was a group of people that took BGT to court about 8 yrs ago (about that time) complaining of some noises coming from the park and to top it off, nearby businesses were threatening legal action for "taking business away from them". I believe it was settled out of court (after nearly 2 yrs).

Oblivion's my favourite ride at the park, if it was removed, it would destroy the park for me! I should have put that in my last post, sorry.

I say they just SBNO Oblivion until the old hags kick the bucket

Thats actually a good idea, but knowing Alton's luck, they'll live till 110.

Anyway, I can't see Oblivion being removed, the worst that will happen (IMO) is they cancel the firworks nights AGAIN.

The Ropers should visit the park and get their stress levels down, they have nothing else to do with their lives apart from making problems for Alton Towers.

Why live near a Theme Park if you can't cope with the noise levels.

They should move to the middle of "North Yorkshire Moors", but then they would complain about the sheep and cows.

As for "Oblivion" or SW5, Alton Towers could enclose the entire ride or

remove "Oblivion" and add "Bullet" instead.

Actually, the Kingsmill folks look like major BGE fans next to this, shall we say, "eccentric" old British couple. What kills me is that you can't even hear Oblivion running when you're on the other side of the park, much less in the town.

Ok. Since I have been receiving many emails about the story (and some of them can't see that they have additional links referring to each story from beginning), I will post the additional links so the "virgins" don't have to take too much time out of their day and "click on the links"..lol

Since when is Oblivion noisy? I stood right next to it and it was pretty quiet.

I think we need to give the old folks a trip to Universal and pitch them a tent near the Hulk coaster. Now that is pretty quiet!

I can't stand that old couple. Luckily, my dad just came back from Europe and (after seeing my k'nex coasters for the first time) asked if I wanted to go to England, so I'll be able to get on Oblivion even if the Ropers get their way. I'm still mad, though.

A couple's plans for a £5,000 wedding at Alton Towers were thrown

into confusion yesterday after it emerged that the theme park had

double booked them with a fun day for 20,000 Muslims.

Amanda Morris, 30, and her fiance, Scott Lee, 31, have been told that

if they go ahead with the ceremony they will not be allowed to go on

celebratory rides together.

Furthermore, Miss Morris and her female guests will have to cover up

to be in line with guests of Islamic Leisure wearing hijabs. "I've

been looking forward to this day for 18 months, and suddenly it's in

ruins," she said yesterday.

"Everything was booked - the photographer, the hotel rooms,

everything. Then some of our guests started getting letters saying

they would have to cover up because it was a Muslim event.

"Alton Towers haven't even had the decency to let us know they had

hired it out. It's not the Muslim event - it's not their fault that

Alton Towers have double booked.

"The people with Islamic Leisure want their day as much as we do. I

don't blame them at all. But Alton Towers shouldn't have done this.

They should at least have rung us to discuss it."

Miss Morris, a recruitment sales advisor, and her fiance, a market

trader, booked their wedding in the Emperor's Suite last year.

The bride-to-be said: "It's a nightmare. We have been planning this

for so long and now this happens nine weeks before the ceremony.

"People are ringing us saying it must be a joke. I don't know what we

are going to do now. I would still like the wedding to go ahead, but

I just don't know how it will all work out. I'll be gutted if I have

to cancel it now."

The couple, who live in Leeds, chose Alton Towers as the venue for

their wedding because they have previously enjoyed staying in the

complex's hotel.

At the time they made the booking the only date available was

Saturday, Sept 16. They were happy to accept it, believing that they

and the 60 guests for whom they had booked 20 rooms would be able to

enjoy the following day on the rides.

Since then, however, Alton Towers have hired out the complex for its

first Muslim fun day.

Believing that they and their own guests had the complex almost to

themselves, Islamic Leisure drew up a list of requirements.

These included the provision of prayer areas and bans on music,

alcohol and gambling. In the Muslim tradition, women would also need

to cover their bodies, as well as going on rides separately to their

menfolk.

The couple have since contacted Islamic Leisure, whose staff

confirmed that the wedding party would be asked to adhere to their

conditions.

Yaseen Patel, the organisation's director, confirmed: "The body will

have to be covered, (though) they do not have to wear the hijab."

An Alton Towers spokesman said staff would be discussing "the options

available" with the couple.

She claimed it was a condition of the Islamic Leisure booking that

wedding and hotel guests would be exempt from the Muslim dress code.

The whole muslim fun day is stupid imo.

You can't force people into covering up their bodies when they don't believe in it.

No offence to the muslims who've organised it. But it's selfish.

They have the right to do what they want if they prearranged it with the park. They may have even paid to buy out the park for the day. The sad thing is Alton Towers double-booked them, and unfortunately the nature of the two parties involved makes them extremely difficult to coincide. Hopefully they can resolve the situation somehow, maybe getting one group to postpone by 1 day or something along those lines. It would be sad if this couples' wedding was ruined. I especially feel bad for them because I just got engaged. I for one will not be choosing an amusement park for our wedding.

^ Also, you can't force muslims to ride rides with people who aren't covered up when they don't believe in it. Badmouthing anyone's religion isn't ever a good idea IMO. They have a right to believe what they do, just as you do. This isn't the Islamic groups fault, it's Alton Towers.

One thing doesn't seem quite clear.

Is it a private buyout, or is the park open to the public that day?

If it's a private buyout and the group was going to be nice enough to let them in, then yes, they should have to follow the private groups rules. If it's a public operating day then they can't enforce those rules.

Too me it seems like bad timing but nothing else. They paid $10K to have a wedding on Saturday at the Alton Towers hotel. They're not paying to have the wedding IN the park the following day. Alton Towers didn't do anything wrong by booking the park for another day!

True, it did say they booked the hotel, not the park, but would anyone have their wedding at Breakers @ CP and then not have the guests of the wedding go into the park? I would think this would be the same way, although I haven't been to Alton Towers, so would love someone to shed some light on the hotel/themepark connection.

ABSOLUTELY! You have to remember that the wedding was booked *AT THE HOTEL* not at the park! And on a completely different day. There are many people who have their wedding at one of the Walt Disney World resorts, but don't necessarily go to the parks. Because it's a nice place to hold a wedding.

When we had our wedding at Walt Disney World, we basically had to sign our life away that the park could basically do whatever they wanted to, and we were at their mercy. I cannot imagine that Alton Towers would be much different.

Remember when Disney World painted the castle *PINK* and dressed it like a birthday cake? I sure wouldn't have wanted our wedding photos in front of that, but there would have been nothing we could have done about it.

No offence to the muslims who've organised it. But it's selfish.

They paid for a park buyout, and as long as it's within the park guidelines, they can have their guests do whatever they want.

All I know is, putting this into perspective, had TPR paid money to rent out a park, and told everyone that in order to come to the event you had to wear a TPR T-Shirt, and then the park turned around and said "Oh, and BTW, there's going to be this other group in the park that isn't going to follow your rules" I would have been all WTF did I just pay the money to rent out the park for?

I really think this is just something that is being blown out of proportion.
