Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

A sideways launch is really gimmicky. I really don't see the purpose of it other than being something different, without actually offering too much of a different ride experience. Heck, Full Throttle has a better gimmick than that. It kinda sounds like a standup inverted coaster, gimmicky and unnecessary. Plus, Furius Baco already is a lunched coaster, and most GP wouldn't care if it were to be the first B&M launch coaster (like they know what that is anyways). Some believe that a launch opens up the door for more intense coasters, but I disagree. A launch will not magically cause the designers to completely deviate away from what their rides are based upon, the rides will still be designed the way they always are, just without a lift. I will be ecstatic that this is a B&M, but will be let down by the gimmicky launch aspect (if that's what it is), because they could of done something truly unique, instead of finally implementing a feature that's already on dozens of other coasters.

I'm kind of bummed out that I'm working 6-6 tonight. Looks like I'll be heading to the PD after 830 to look at this update on the station computer! Or maybe I'll just crack a beer at 6am tomorrow and get on the forums. Unfortunately I won't be able to troll TPR on the disappointing announcement.

True. I also like looking at towering B&M lift hills.

I was just peeking at the ride area and can say that the land area is pretty big. I could see a helix or two, a zero-g roll and an immelman.

Maybe the turn around on the released blue print?

I was just throwing the sideways launch idea out there. It sounds like you don't want a launch (gimmicky or not) in your last sentence, but based on the footers, I would be shocked if it wasn't a launch, but that still means they can do other stuff with the layout. 22 million is a lot to work with! It's not just going to be one big launch and then a brake run.

Tonight, at 9pm their time I believe.

Actually it begins at 8:15 PM THEIR time as Holiday World is in the central time zone as is much of southern Indiana.

Don't mean to bust on ya HolidayWorldFTW, but the majority of Southern Indiana is in the eastern time zone. The central time zone only extends as far east as Perry County, and the only county north of Evansville that is included is Gibson County. Everything else south of I-70 is in the eastern time zone.

I didn't mean most I meant much. Bad choice of words on my part. Most of us down here on central are unwilling to move to eastern. I'm kind of one of them. Indy pretty much disowns Evansville and the surrounding area and we liked to be aligned with Chicago time much more.

^In my opinion it would seem fun. Gimmicks aren't necessarily always bad. If you don't like the concept, that's fine, because you don't have to.

Did anyone notice that the live stream is now not up (back to the 66 Days at Sea site), or is it just me?

Boo hoo, it wasn't exactly what I wanted! Oh, the announcement hasn't been made yet? Just wanted to get ahead of the post-speculation high letdown rush.

Seriously though, I'm positive that this coaster will be awesome, but be realistic in your reactions. I'll admit I was a little letdown after seeing Outlaw Run's layout when I first saw it because I was envisioning this mile-long monster in my head, but on my first ride it turned out to be even better than my wildest dreams.

As far as my final speculation goes, I'm hoping for fewer gimmicks than the ideas that have been posted for the past few days. I hope it's a "basic" sitdown, floorless, or invert with a great layout. A return to form for the looping coaster with a little inspiration from Alan Shilke (sp?). A launch and/or pre-show would be awesome, but not necessary. I understand now more than ever the necessary marketing appeal of gimmicks and "world's biggest/fastest" titles, but if you really want to make me happy make something that I'll still want to ride over and over again ten years from now.

Folks, I hate to break it but let's be honest... All roller coasters are gimmicks. Otherwise, we would't build higher, faster, longer, steel, hybrid, looping, inverted, flying, dive, floorless, backwards, racers, launch, standing, air time monster, water element, show building, indoor, terrain.........coasters.

Well for this thing to be a flyer (my prediction), it's gonna have to be the teal track at the B&M plant. There is also blue supports for a transfer track sitting at the plant as well, so yeah. Looking at the construction for most recent B&M's, the transfer track is one of the first things that is put together.

Incredible job by the team at Holiday World - how many other parks have been this successful at allowing ZERO leaks ahead of time? I know it helps that they're not a GIANT park, but still...impressive.

I don't follow this park too closely, but it's interesting just how quickly they chose to go big steel after the "split" in the family...right? Seems like they were pretty consistent with what they did for years, and now that a part of the family is down in AL, you get a BIG deal like this.

unrelated: prozach continues to make really impressive contributions to the forum
