thrillrider
I made two trips to BGW last year, one in the summer(I have pictures in my east coast trip report), and a spur of the moment trip in the fall. We made this trip after finding out that the big bad wolf would be no more after this year. I really do like this park, but with the removal of BBW, the park seems to be missing something. We started the day off with the sesame street breakfast in the park. This is the seating area. Shortly after this picture was taken, her head started rotating. There is a short show while you are eating. After breakfast, you can get your picture taken. I don't know why, but I always loved this ride. One of the new rides in sesame street. Monster restraints. Sesame streets rollercaoster. Grovers lift hill. Trippy looking station. This is one of the best themed areas in the park. Sesame street cupcakes. This is one of the reasons I love this park so much. And now, we are off to grandma's house. Noted..... Rules. The station. The ride was still very popular. More rules... There was a short rain delay, so we just waited it out on the platform. Wheel porn. More wheel porn. Griffon Work shop. They have a night time show that was really good. They were also prepping for the christmas in the park event. Griffon station. This is one great dark ride. The loading platform. The log ride. Apollo over the trees. Edited April 7, 2010 by jedimaster1227
Skycoastin Steve
Nicely done! I haven't been back this year, but I have to imagine it's going to be very sad having to skip my obligatory ride on BBW.
goetz20
I'm sad I didn't get to ride BBW.
KingB24
Awesome! I just went today, they were absolutely packed. (and it was really, really hot) DarKastle had a full line, but strangely, we didn't have to wait line for any coasters. Griffon was maybe a 5 min wait and Alpengeist was 15 (because somebody threw up I believe). We got to Apollo at the right time, we only waited 5-10 min for it. When we got off the line had started to flow into the switchbacks. But yes, the park is missing something... it's like a cake that's missing a piece that somebody ate before the main course. It's sad, I really miss BBW. But hopefully, they'll replace it with a temporary haunt maze this year and maybe we'll see a new coaster in the next couple of years... tiger01
Nice pics. I've been to busch Gardens Tampa in 2003 but I was to scared to Ride any Coasters. That pic of Alpengist and Griffin looked good.
ebl
Maybe there's some wood headed to "Europe" sometime soon. After all, "Africa" already has some... Eric
Skycoastin Steve
^I don't think there's any limit to how high I would jump if BGW got a woodie. Seriously, I would be through the roof.
thrillrider
I agree. A woody would be great. With all the hills in the area, there could be a great footprint for a wood coaster ala boulder dash.
Pirouettes907
^^ You and me both, Steve and ^ agreed. The thought of a woodie utilizing the same terrain as BBW makes me gleeful. Then again, the long-rumored B&M flyer would make me pretty happy, too, but as much as I love B&Ms, I'd rather see something wooden for variety's sake. Anyway, I liked your report--you have some nice shots in there, especially the one of Griffon with Alpengeist in the background and the "wheel porn." BBW was a great ride; I wish I could have given it one more spin before it went. Thanks for sharing!
tanthonyam
I would rather see a woodie than a flyer replace BBW. Flyers tend to make me queasy for some reason. (Tatsu) I think its the position of the body that does it for me. I reallly wanted to see Busch this year but now that BBW is gone I would rather wait til they get a replacement. It better be something spectacular considering now King's Dominion now has I305.
nln00b
OMG those Frog Hopper Monster Restraints look terrible! That looks so uncomfortable!
thrillrider
I agree^^ I think it was overkill for them to use such large restraints for a kiddie ride. They are even too big for the adults.
thrillrider
A few pictures I forgot to include. Alpine goodness. Random whirl and hurl. Italy The flying machine. When riding the train, I saw this building. I think this used to be the station for dragon fire. This drop is very close to being as good as sex. Cool.... redfoot12
^ Yep! That was the station for Drachen Fire!
KDCOASTERFAN
I'm sad I didn't get to ride BBW. You missed an extrodinary ride & a fine example of what an Arrow suspended could be. Good thing I got to ride it several times 13 years ago, along with DF once & I just can't figure out what was going through management's heads when they made the decision to remove those two rides. cfc
^I rather doubt that they made the decision to remove the Big Bad Wolf lightly. I figure they would've preferred to keep a signature attraction operating, if possible. As for Drachen Fire, that ride was brutal, at least in its original form. I hated that thing and shed no tears over its removal, but some folks remember it fondly.
Skycoastin Steve
^I only rode it as a kid in '95, post corkscrew removal, and it was the coaster that made me start loving coasters. Of course, as a kid, head banging is minimalized because of height, so I imagine if I rode it today I wouldn't be so fond of it.
cfc
^It left me with two huge bruises on either shoulder and a splitting headache.
Skycoastin Steve
^Sounds like what Arrow loopers do to me these days now that I'm a giant! But for some unknown reason to me, I still love them. It's one of life's greatest mysteries. I honestly wish someone would take the layout of Drachen Fire, give it some non-murderous transitions, smooth it out a bit, and rebuild it. Cause if it wasn't so brutal, it was a pretty sweet layout with two elements that haven't been recreated in any fashion since.
KingB24
^ Well I know the wraparound corkscrew hasn't been used since, but I think a cutback (if that's the other one you're talking about) is on a coaster in Disneyland Paris. Not totally sure though.
thrillrider
Arrow loopers don't bother me. I guess it is because I am tall, so my head clears the otsr. The only headbanging I get on coasters is on vekoma coasters. They have the god awful mega otsr's.
Fooz
I'm 6'2" and my head clears the OTSRs just fine, but they press down hard on my shoulders . Loch Ness most recently, I couldnt wait for it to be over so I could get out of those things. (I'm not even that tall)
RoCo
So sad to see those shots of the BBW... We just don't have enough suspended coasters anymore. Thanks for sharing these! Also, put me down as a Drachen Fire fan. Loved that sick inversion half-way down the first drop and the lit-up trains at night. Also, put me down as praying for some GCI love at this park. PKI Jizzman
Apollo looks like SUCH a good ride. Those turns and drops just look amazing. Thanks for those pictures! I'd love to see more of Apollo if you have any.
