Photo TR: SFMM Spring Break Update 3/29/10

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, this is my first TR on the site. It would've been on WCB KBF, but I accidentally deleted all the pictures from that day, so just as a brief report, big thanks to Robb for being patient in sorting out my payment, and setting up the greatness of my first TPR event. You guys did a great job, and I can't wait till WCB 2011!

Now, onto my first day of Spring Break!

A friend was kind enough to do us the favor of dropping us off at the park, in which he had not been to in more than 25 years. His reaction to seeing everything they added ever since Colossus freaked the sh*t out of him. He was litterally speechless at the sight of X2, it was quite priceless.

Always a great sight to see, I was already excited as I was meeting up with friends!

I wore my West Coast Bash shirt in hopes of being recognized by at least some people, but I was too much of a ninja today.

We arrived at around 10, our friends have already been there since 9:10, so we had a pretty good spot in line. The thing was, that according to my sources, SFMM was empty yesterday, so I had a good feeling about today.. boy was I wrong.

This was when I arrived at the park, and this was just the beginning of my most interesting visit to magic mountain.

One of our friends had to get a chaperon, who was quite the gp. I tried to suggest a better way of doing the park, but she bossed the whole party around, so I let it slide. She was cool, but it was an interesting schedule of rides.

When the park opened we missed out on the running of the bulls to go to rent lockers, which really wasn't a big problem with me. We hit up at X2 with a half hour wait at the most, which really wasn't that bad for us.

After waiting in a line to be let in the line, we got deep in the line to about here. It was pretty reasonable, I had no complaints.

The drop on this thing gets me all the time, it's too awesome .

The Xtreme can also be teasing at times .

We made it, got a front-row seat, and showed my friend the rough awesomeness known as X2. It was his first time to the park, so his reactions to most of the rides, especially this one, were priceless. I did however strain my shoulder on the drop, and this happened like 10 times through out the day (I have really bony arms, it was bound to happen ).

Next was, Viper, which had a line. And folks, this isn't the only one.

I had a pretty enjoyable ride, my friend personally liked Viper the most. We have an arrow fanboy in our midst !

OMG. Dance Coaster construction.

We ran into Vu, which already had the long line by now. I warned the party that with the rides crap capacity, we will be waiting for a long time. They insisted, and after half an hour and barely passing through one switchback, we decided to ditch the ride.

We all agreed to do some tunnel taking next!

I was actually surprised, because Terminator was one of the rides with the least wait time of the whole day.

When I get down to this S, do you know what time it is? Ahhhh yeah, it's business time

The line went by pretty fast, and I got to ride in the back! I rode with the chaperon, who got freaked out when I "flew" out of the seat on the drop, and it was very noticeable to her. Airtime rules!

The big let down was that all the effects were turned off, as well as the audio wasn't working. It was still one of my best rides on Terminator, but the effects and soundtrack would've made the ride my best.

Everyone was hungry, so we went over to the lockers to get anything we needed, and ate Johnny Rockets. But it's such a scenic way to the lockers, so why not nerd out?

Hmm.. Tatsu has a line. Not surprised.

Our chaperon was saving a primo spot at Katy's Kennel, so my friends and I walked over to Johnny Rocket's, which turned out to be a longer walk than we all initially thought. With the heat, and the hunger, this one man's bucket of chicken made the journey more aggravating.

We finally made it, and I honestly have to say, it took at least half an hour to get the food, not wait in line to order. The game stalls were right by, and at the "Top Glo" stall, the barker woman had the exact same persuasive line to attract people to the game, it annoyed me so much every time I heard it while waiting to get my burger. In fact, one of my friends was able to finish his burger in the time I was waiting to get mine (we ordered separately).

I did make an attempt to get a shot of Riddler's, but it came out too blurry.

When I finally got my burger, we made the long journey back to Katy's Kennel. But boy, was that a great lunch. To let the food go down, we took a nice and slow walk to Jet Stream.

Which one is the one you go down? You decide.

Gotta love the sexiness of that transition. What a shame Ninja was closed down.

I personally found this to be one of the coolest storage systems ever .

Before heading over to Tidal Wave, we took a brief stop at a gift store, then I came across Twilight Barbies. Just look at how happy I am! Best toys EVAR!!

Cullen will make a great partner to ride X2 with.

Instead of Tidal Wave we hit up Goldrusher in the back row for double rides (you can't beat its death helix ).

Riddler's was next. I took so much photos in line.

I've noticed this in the past, but it came to my attention and I still wonder.. who tagged RR's Inclined loop, but most especially.. HOW .

Can you spot the coasterporn?

Hmm, I took a lot of pictures.

Boy, that was one of my worst rides on Riddler. It was pretty rattly, and I got a little dizzy from it, which I don't usually do (even though I do have a little bit of motion sickness).

Then we were off to ride Tidal Wave!

For a short little water ride, It made some pretty big waves over the bridge! And, to my luck, the boat titled to the left at the bottom of the drop (I sat in the back row, far left seat), and the entire wave from impact just showered me entirely. Definitely an unacceptable amount of wetness .

Batman was next, which had a line past the tunnel. I know this isn't bad, but I've never seen the line as long as I've seen it today, just putting it out there .

Since it was right around the corner, we went over to Colossus and Scream.

Couldn't help another shot!

I still don't think they're going to make this a Bizarro..

As it turned out, Goliath was closed the whole day.

Earlier in the day I saw an empty train on the lift, so I assumed that it was empty in that area of the park. While on Colossus, I noticed them Testing Goliath with test dummies on one train, and empty on the other. I'm not sure if this is just for today, and for what reason, but if you plan on going this week, keep in mind Goliath is a possible no-go.

Afterwards, we did Bucaneer. Fun, but all the screaming gave me a solid headache, and I took some ibuprofen afterwards. Now the thing is because of my motion sickness I've always burned out at theme parks, but within the hour I had the energy I had the beginning of the day, and I walked out of the park without a single problem. I can now prepare myself for my summer east coast trip !

Since everyone had gotten their coaster-fix by now, we did the ones we had left to do, Superman and Tatsu. So we headed over to Orient Express.

My friend approves of the benefits of oxygen.

And what is the best part of Orient Express? TATSU NERD SHOTS!!

We got off, and started heading down the hill to Superman. Ah, but there were more Tatsu shots to get!

And then it was time to ride Superman: Now Slower Than Half the Cast of The Jersey Shore

Infiltrate the cave! Ew.. line.

But I was happy, I got me a souvenir Intamin wheel shot!

And for the last ride of the day, Tatsu. Wow the station was full at this time, also an example of how crowded the day was. I was actually surprised to see it crowded at this time too, I assumed it would've died down by this time.

In the words of Towlie, you're gonna get high.

And that wraps up this trip report. Happy Spring Break everyone, if you plan on going this week, you will have a crowded day! Thanks for reading.

Great TR man! Especially for a first. You actually got some really nice pictures there, I'm thoroughly impressed. I love the ones you got of Tatsu, especially the pretzel loop from Orient Express, and the egg turn. Some damn fine captions too, especially the Flight of the Conchords and Jersey Shore references, whoever thought of those must be an absolute genius!

But seriously, it was quite an entertaining PTR. Thanks for sharing!

Whoa whoa whoa Stop everything! Tidal Wave actually got someone on the ride (NOT THE BRIDGE) WET? No really nice and fun TR, Thanks for sharing.

While I think that newer rides have surpassed it in terms of thrills, I still enjoy a ride or two on Superman--The Escape if the line isn't too long. It is true that it no longer reaches 100 mph, but the floater air that you get on it is still fun.

For anyone who has never been to SFMM, I say you should ride it and make your own judgment.

I would never wait that long for Tatsu. That line always gets long in the early hours, because people think it is strategic to get off X2 and go to it next. But I bet later on in that same day, the line was a lot shorter. It usually always ends up that way from my experiences.

I've waited that before. It was around a 1hour wait.

I don't think I would do it again.
